There is no proof that people just sprouted out of the ground where they stand.
Nobody is debating that the Native American were not really 'native' - but their genetic material suggests East Asian influence - not Semetic.

i've found your forum interesting.
mormons and ex-mormons struggle with many of the same things jw's do.

Although, oy, reading through that message board....
It's deja vu all over again!

found the people of that city (predominantly Mormon) to be the friendliest and most hospitable I had ever met
I live (and work) right near Kirtland, OH - one of their big settlements and BIG tourist spot for them. The wife and I actually visit a park very nearby their town, and visit an icecream stand in it quite frequently (it's right next to one of their churches). LOTS of Utah plates - which is really strange for Ohio!!
In any case, this is what strikes you most about them. They aren't preachy when you run into them informally, but are SUPER FRIENDLY. It's almost weird. I mean, situations when your typical American wouldn't even bother to nod in your direction, and they come right up and chat with you, never even mentioning religion - just REALLY, REALLY friendly.
And YOUNG, too! There are SO MANY young Mormons about! Weirdness....
They were always bustling to and fro with their Relief Society activities....
Which is their other big thing, at least out here. They are REALLY active politically and socially - and not for religious reasons. They just seem to want to help and work for general society improvements.
Again, it's pleasent to see.
I don't actually mind visiting Kirtland for it, it's a nice little town in a gorgeous valley with really nice people. And it doesn't feel like the creepy kind of friendliness the JWs give you - it's not like they are probing to see if you have some flaw that means they can't associate with you.
I'm sure they have their own problems, though - which is too bad, as they seem like nice people.
in the midst of the debates -- or wars -- concerning the issues of creation and evolution, there is a tendency to over-generalize.
both sides often refer to the opposing side with the broad term of either "evolutionist" or "creationist.
" and yet there exists within both sides a great deal of variety and even controversy.
Xan, have you seen the big bang?? Yet you believe in it......
You make interesting assumptions.
if we take a look at the mental energy that must have been expended in contributing to threads on this board regarding various concepts of christianity it does not seen unlikely that, if it could have been "bottled" and kept, it could be used to power the next space shuttle.. is this what christianity is all about?
is it just one gigantic intellectual exercise that is only an option to those with the mental capacity to understand the never ending theorys put forward by all and sundry regarding its practice and bible understanding?
i believe that this would exclude at least two thirds of the worlds population from ever becoming, what many seem to believe are, true christians.
Any comments on faith versus intellect and where the dividing line is, if any?
'Blind faith is for stupid people'
Ummm....well....yeah, that's it.....
basically, this is my take on it.
this isn't intended to start a flame war between believer's and non-believer's of god.. god creates angels.
god creates man.
If God says that mankind can't govern themselves
You know, this is something else that gets me...
The WT has always maintained this was 'part of the challenge', as it were. They further maintain that as soon as mankind declares 'true peace and security', then 'sudden destruction will be instantly upon them'.
WTF?
So as soon as we prove we CAN get by without god, he suddenly flips the board over and goes stomping of to his room declaring himself the winner anyway?

And your point is?
Assuming your list is fairly representative (I tend to think it is), then you've just proven my point. The first reference to 'science' was in 1861, and even then, it wasn't yet regarded as a discipline of study with a defined methodoly.
Again - more similar to religion than science.
i am at a crossroads in my life, and wanted your opinions:.
i have been d/f for 18 months, i have learnt enough to know jws are completely misguided, but my sis has also been d/a for questioning things, she has been doing the alpha course and is getting baptised at a baptist church next weekend, which i am very pleased for her to be doing if she feels it's right.
i am in a quandry as i am very sceptical about going to another religion, i know many i have spoken to say, it isn't joining a religion but just associating with other christians.
Are my points incorrect?
Did he not allow his servants (indeed, all humanity, if you believe the bible) to suffer torture at the hands of the devil just to settle a bet?
Does this seem like someone deserving of worship to you?
Or, a better, more relevant question...
Does it sound like someone capable of creating the life, the universe and everything?
Again, take a look here:

How can you see all these errors and still believe the book is inspired?

Science books 200 years ago were laughable
Ummmm...because they didn't exist?
'Science' isn't 200 years old. We had 'philosophers' then, to be sure. Not quite the same thing as a scientist. They actually had more in common with religion than science, in fact.
