where did all the fun times go?

i was looking at the june 1, 1985 watchtower, pg.

29-31 with its legalistic baptism vows, where one recognizes their association with gods spirit-directed organization, when i was struck by the context of the article.. essentially it gives a last minute warning about proper decorum with swim-wear used for baptism a serious and solemn occasion.

That's just too funny.

We did the exact same thing. Only, our show was "Pioneering After Armegeddon". Another skit was "How Many Fit in a Pioneer Van" where all the pioneer sisters piled into someone's mini-van (there were 12 of them). That one was filmed before hand, camera outside looking at the van such that you couldn't see in it. First, a couple sisters came out. Then a couple more. Then a few more, etc etc. Those in the audience who didn't know about it beforehand got a kick out of it.

But, but...'Oliver'...that's just, so....WORDLY....*shudders*

Episode 2 KICKS A**!! (No spoilers)

just caught the midnight screening of episode ii.

yeah, i know (it was actually a mostly normal crowd, only 2 fairly cute young ladies as jedis and one darth maul showed up .

this is exactly everything episode i should have been.

Strange advice. Not saying Spiderman wasn't a good movie - it was quite good. But, even Phantom Menace was better.

It always was - 'The force is strong in my family...my father, etc.' It can't be 'in the family' if it isn't genetic (in this context, at least).

The lightsaber battles at the end SUCKED
Matter of opinion. Wasn't as good a battle as episode 1, but still heads and tails about anything in the original trilogy.

Poor Haydn Christophers
You found Haydn's acting forced, and you recommend Spiderman? I mean, at least Haydn LOOKED hurt when his mother died. And he could LOOK filled with rage pretty good. Granted, *some* of his lines where cheesy, but that is Lucas fault more than anything.

CGI scenes involving characters
And you complain about the CGI in AoTC, and you didn't have a problem with the CGI in Spiderman? REALLY? You mean, you thought when Peter Parker was first jumping from building to building, it actually looked even marginally real? I'm sorry, but I've seen the Matrix, there is no excuse for how cheesy THAT looked...

Not a bit more cheesy than any of his lines in the original trilogy. I mean, how many times can you say "We're doomed" and it still be funny? Or, "I never knew I had it in me"?

What, I loved that! Episode 1 was just foreshadowing this - he keeps screwing up and screwing up, but there was always a way to redeem each screwup. Now, if he makes the wrong decision, nothing can be done about it, so the inevitable occurs.

Is obi-wan really that stupid about the missing planet
Think more like Atlantis or something. A planet/place one person says exists, but shows up on no maps. Even if you could prove that it should be somewhere (as Obi-Wan did), you'd have trouble believing it, because we know EVERYTHING topographically about our planet, how could be miss an entire continent? Same deal with the Republic - they knew EVERYTHING about the Galaxy - how could a planet be missing?

Why the hell didnt he use that ability in the original trilogy
a) When would he have needed to?
b) Maybe something happens to him since then. We DO still have the entire clone wars to get through.

bobba fett way overacted the 'i am evil' thing
How could he over-act? He had, like, a half dozen lines he delivered completely deadpan. He just scowled a lot.

No space battle other than the jango versus obi wan
Like the epic space battle in 'Empire Strikes Back'?

Okay, did your theater go nuts when Yoda did his 'karate stance'? OMG, people just went CRAZY chearing. That kicked *SO MUCH* ass, it's not even funny.

As I mentioned in the other epII thread, I like the irony. And you almost feel sad for Anakin - it's easy to see how he becomes Vader. He really ends up believing he is doing good by bringing order to the galaxy.

UN turns on false religion

i heard from a sister in vienna that at the summer convention there is going to be an announcement about the fact that the un are setting up something to do with combatting religious fundamentalism in the wake of the terrorist attacks in america.

it seems they are going to suggest that this indicates the fulfilling of prophesy and that this shows that the end is near.

i don't know if it is true, but that is what i heard.. beaten, corrupted, dying.

It's possible, I guess.

My personal opinion is that 'new light' will come up and 'update' their understanding on those verses.

The beast turning on the harlot will, instead, represent any action a government agency takes against wordly religion - for example, the charges being levelled against pedophiles in many major religions.

Just Saw StarWars Episode II

only one word is sufficient to describe this film =.

it is not religious persecution for an informed person to expose publicly a certain religion as being false, thus allowing persons to see the difference between false religion and true religion.

I really don't think most of it was obviously CGI, though. Some of the creatures, sure. But, all the scenery was CGI (even the island paradise Anakin and Amidala retreat to)...all the spacecraft were CGI...asteroid scene redux was all CGI...

For the most part, I think the CGI was really not noticeable. Certainly several steps above SW:TPM. Such technological leaps has me with high hopes for Ep III.

(I can't *wait* to see Ep III now, not because Ep II wasn't great - but because it WAS. To see the last few pieces we know need to fall into place do so...why does Padme leave Anakin? Over what do Obi-Wan and Anakin finally fight? Will we get to see the Trade Federation building the Death Star?)

maybe im just griping too much

Just a thought, but you had to love the irony that the predecessors to the rebellion were being led by a Dark Jedi and were actually responsible for the Death Star design.
