as many of you know, i struggle from time to time with depression and even suicidal thoughts.
i was thinking yesterday that the next time i get to feeling that way i would remember very simple things that bring me great joy and tie those to a sensory experience that i can bring up in my mind to remind me of how good life really is to snap me out of those deep foul moods.
so here are my 5.. taste -- the taste of my mother's pecan cookies warm out of the oven.. smell -- the smell of my yard after a spring rain.. sight -- the sight of the north georgia mountains' fall leaves.. sound -- the heart touching songs from les miserables.. touch -- the feel of getting my back scratched by mitch.. please feel free to add your 5.. hugs.
taste - mmmmm my mom's coconut cream pie (what is it about mom's cooking??)
smell - peaches fresh from the tree still warm and fruity smelling
sight - looking at my daughter when she is sleeping...she is heartbreakingly beautiful
sound - rain falling on a sleepy sunday morning..or the crackle of a fire in the fireplace (just can't choose)
touch - the way skin and muscle feel under your hands when you are giving a massage.
now I feel warm and fuzzy inside....
when you were a witness how sure were you that it was the truth?.
were you totally convinced or did you think it was just the best way to serve a god but not perfect.. it amazes me when i think of how vigourusly i defended the witness and my ideals when on the minisrty and in talking to friends.. what worries me is that if i was so covinced then about what i belive then should i be so convinced now.. back then i was at the pinnacle of understanding or at least i belived i was , do i feel the same now?.
well i try to not be so dogmatic about thing now.
hhhmmm as a JW I was probably a #4 - Just went along with it for other reasons.
You know I could talk the talk but I never completely believed any of it..even when my parents died I could't conceive them being just in the grave asleep...and the resurection hope has never seemed that real to me..course that could be because my holier then thou JW sister pretty much had me convinced I would never make it anyway
I saw several "holes" in the Bible and but until my parents passed away and my daughter was born I was content to "drift" along as a JW...it was comfortable at the time...everyone was pretty much happy with me..I have to admit sometimes I miss the JW rut I was in...but I could never go back now I know to much...
Now I am now a very liberal person...my feeling on religion now..if it makes you happy and you don't try to make me feel bad about myself then I don't care what religion you do or don't practice. I tend to be openminded and willing to listen to most anyone.

i always got stuck going w/my dad to jw building events and for a while i thought it was a drag to have to work all weekend for free, until i started to realize there were lots of chicks running around that i could have fun with.
that and assemblies.
i can probably attribute that newfound fascination with jw girls from different cities as one of the biggest contributions to my eventual liberation.

Trolling the halls...a favorite JW past time And everyone knew if you were single and going to hall builds all the time it wasn't because you were theocratic!

Pioneering...what memories..lol good and bad! I mainly pioneered because it was what everyone wanted me to do. I wanted to be a good witness and make my family proud.
I got a part-time job right out of high school and started to pioneer..I found I was enjoying my job a lot more than my pioneering..lol I then bought a car that I couldn't afford working part-time (don't think I didn't plan that!) uuummm Camero..I was sssooo cool...anyway quit pioneering to work full time and within a few months had fallen away for the 1st time...
After I came back into the org and got married I tried pioneering again...several times...I hated to door to door work..lol I would feel so bad waking people up on Sat. mornings! They wanted to see me about as much as I wanted to be there!!!
Used to love the early morning service when we would just drive around to convenience stores and ask the clerks as we were buying coffee if they wanted a mag to read while they were working...lol got many an hour in that way! BTW I ALWAYS lied about my hours...don't think I ever actually got all my time in..oh well
And yes I avoided some people like the plague...lol you would drive past and see that their car was the ONLY one there...and go uuummm anyone have any return visits we can go do????

i am a newbie here.
i am not a jw, never was and i don't think i will ever be.
my last statement is due to the fact that i did read a lot of posts from this forum and about the jws in other sites.
Who really knows the thoughts and motives of another person Ajax? I am sure she is nice to you because you are a nice person..if she has another motive...well I guess it will eventually surface.
Some JW's live to convert others...some wish they could lead normal lives and so live double lives with "worldly" people as their friends..the double life ones tend to shy away from any mention of their religion whereas the ones that want to convert you will constantly bring it up...course these are just generalizations...
If it was me...I would just be her friend...and see what happens...
