  HORRORS! Ottawa Senators fans irate as cable repairs are underway

  rogers cable in ottawa is down due to a main line being severed.

  the hockey game between ottawa and philadelphia is scheduled to start at 7pm, and rogers is not going to be able to restore service until approximately 9pm tonight.

  people are being given instructions on how to hook up a piece of speaker wire in order to view the game the "old fashioned way"......

  Re the Wild.

  May have to eat crow on that one. Still have to pull for the Canucks, though, Canadian pride and all. But I have to agree with you Gopher, Vancouver looks like they've run out of steam and Minnesota has gotten their 2nd or 3rd wind.

  CJ and I are going to the theatre tonight, to see a stage production of " The 12 Angry Jurors ". Do you think anyone would mind if I wore my Canucks jersey and cap to the play ?

  Sure hope the play ends by 10:00 pm !

  Scully. Sure looks like Alfredsson, may be in the maternity ward, rather than at the Coliseum. Do you think there is any pressure to have the baby pre-game or post game ? It wouldn't surprise me if Senator's management have added the phrases " inducement ", " breaking the water ", and " intravenous drip " to their vocabulary.

  what are some of the foods you remember being served at district and circuit assemblies.

  i remember every sunday was roast chicken.

  also i remember them serving knockwurst and saurkraut.

  Here's another WBTS line their pockets story. When I was a kid, I attended a District Assembly in Toronto in the early 70's at Woodbine Race Track. My Uncle who lived in Toronto was on the Food Services Committee, or whatever they called themselves.

  I remember him telling my dad and I how they would negotiate with the local Coke and Pepsi distributors for the best possible deal on the beverage dispensing. These were the days when you actually paid cash for the confections. Assemblies in Toronto were often scheduled for 2-3 weeks in a row, to accomadate the large number of circuits in the area, so the deal could prove to be very lucrative for the succesful vendor.

  Anyways, my uncle informed me that they deal they had in place this year, was Coke agreed to supply the 8 oz waxed Dixie cups for free, and charge 1 cent for every 8 oz drink dispensed. The price charged to you the attendee................10 cents. So for every glass of pop/soda sold at the convention the WBTS was pocketing 9 cents.

  Not bad eh ! Praise God. WBTS " It's the Real Thing "

  Why are Canadians envious of Americans?

  the whole discussion on "america" made me wonder the above.. by the way the war of 1812 wasn't against canadians but against the brits and won by americans after the battle of new orleans--which inspired one of the funniest lines in folk music, penned by jimmy driftwood and sung by the great johnny horton:.

  What Happened To All Your Friends???

  to become a witness, you must leave everything behind and associate only with jw's.

  did you think that you really were going to only associate with jehovah's witnesses and no one else???

  ---------- after you left or got df'd, did you regain your past "worldly" friendships or were they forever lost?

  It's amazing how quickly the 'friendships' you have in the WTS dissolve - we're talking minutes, not months or years !!

  CJ and I had a freindship with one couple in particular, that we allowed to fade, once we got married. They had children, we had children, but the only contact we ever had was to " bump into " while shopping.

  After we had made the final decision to " never go back ", I decided one day just to pop in and say hello. Needless to say, they were a little stunned, but welcomed me anyways. Since that day over 5 years ago, that have become some of our closest friends. We had a lot of catching up to do. We had 2 additional children, they had never met, they had a son since we parted. Our oldest had moved to Toronto, to attend school, their oldest daughter, was attending University in town.

  We see each other on a weekly - semi-weekly basis, ( they joined us yesterday to attend our daughters parade ceremony for " the Battle of the Atlantic " ) and we even plan our camping vacations around each other's schedules.

  It is that form of " true friendship " that convinces you, the love that jws profess is just an illlusion. As Simon alluded to, those so called friendships with jws simply evaporated.

  We have developed many other freindships, with people we have since met, including a women, who I originally attended grade school with. What a great moment that was. Her and her husband and us have also become good friends.

  The way we see it, the majority of those we called friends, while jw's were counterfeit, though there are a few, who I know miss us, as we miss them, but their mental shackles, prevent them from having any association with us.

  Their loss.
