when you were "in" did you ever actually enjoy the ministry?

and i made no secret about it.

instead i would joke about me feather knocking, and made sure i had my bible in hand so as they come to the door they know what im about so they can shut me down before i even start.. i always wondered how or why there were people who enjoyed it.

once upon a time there was a "kiai master" who trained his students how to knock people over - no touch - with purely the power of his chi.

how he came to think he actually had telekinetic powers - or how his students became accomplices in his self delusion - i have no idea.

but he was so convinced he could actually do these things he issued a challenge and put up $5,000 for any martial artist who could beat him.

My quest was always to find somebody with a brain that would actually have a conversation with me in the door to door work. I can't remember it ever really happening. Smart householders would simply say: "not interested", or not answer their door.

That reality was another straw on the camel's back for me, as I saw the pattern of "dumb and desperate" that filled my RV book.

Midweek meeting video

australian sister was sexually abused as a child and thought of ending her life at 14 years old, sometime later jw's call on her father who accepts a study and eventually the whole family becomes witnesses, life gets much better as the sister immerses herself in pioneering etc, she still has some dark days but prayer along with going for walks and swimming has helped her cope with bad memories of child abuse, the new system (just around the corner) will completely fix everything......... i'm dumbfounded, the hypocrisy has literally rendered me speechless......comments anybody?.

at the la vega kingdom hall, which is around 35 miles north west of bogota, columbia.. with a population of just under 50 million, there are some 165,000 active jws in the country - a ratio of around 1-in-300.. they conduct around 220,000 studies each month, and with just under 24,000 regular pioneers, the country saw a 2% increase last year.. last year's memorial attendance was over half-a-million, which means 1-in-100, or 1%, of the country attended.. street view of the outside of the kingdom hall: .

Jehovah's Witnesses - a religion of displaced people?

i've had a theory for a long time that jws historically have appealed to people who have been displaced or find themselves in a new environment away from family and friends.

i also read an article recently that suggested that internal migration in italy was a big boost for jw growth.

more generally it has long been theorised that new religious movements are a phenomenon particularly associated with disruptive features of modernity, including the hyper-mobility of people in the modern age.

I think Biblical childhood indoctrination is the keyest of ingredients.

Are you sad or angry?

after exiting the org, i mean cult, how have each of you felt personally about the lies you had been taught, the hurt from feeling betrayed by these people, actual hopes of once believed false teachings, rose colored lenses of seemingly just and right doctrines that turned out to be a bunch of horse $#!+, the shunning of family and friends?

right now i am going through the motions, i've just moved to a new home, which means hopefully no more elders searching for me at my previous address.. i can't help but feel sad though right now because of the fact that although i am not df'd ( maybe the elders will do it in absentia assuming i've been avoiding them and the 2 jc's they've invited me to as well as the last handwritten letter at my door before i moved ) my mom treats me as though i am dead to her, she says " i am living the life of a disfellowshipped person, and until i come back to jehovah this is how things will be because this was my choice to leave jehovah " ok i get it, but i don't- everyone has free will, so yes this was my choice but it is also her choice to shun me, especially after the "shun unrepentant wrongdoers" talk at the rc, funny how they come out with these talks to reel members back in.. she claims that she has an obligation to jehovah of which she promised to him after she was baptized not at 11, 13, or 17 ( young ages ) but fricken 26 years old.

i absolutely hate this organization and everything that it is, it's taken away my family and most importantly my own mother.. i always thought that a mothers love was to be unconditional, but hers for me is only conditional.

I feel a spectrum of emotions. Sometimes I feel sorry for all of my friends a deep sense of pity. Sometimes, while I'm driving around the metro area, I pause a podcast and rant like a madman about something that is bothering me.

It will get better for me soon. I just need to be patient. A recent major event has put me a lot closer to ending my fade.

Has anyone thought about if a General strike take place by undocumented immigrants.

I currently employ an undocumented man. He has 7 American born kids and an American born wife, their mother. He's the best employee that I have (14 years), is a volunteer soccer coach, and one of the best people I know.

I pay him handsomely and he pays his FICA and Social Security taxes like everyone else.
