  NOUN: 1a. One who believes that it is impossible to know whether there is a God. b. One who is skeptical about the existence of God but does not profess true atheism. 2. One who is doubtful or noncommittal about something.

  ADJECTIVE: 1. Relating to or being an agnostic. 2. Doubtful or noncommittal

  As usual you've got the wrong definition there, Yadirf.

  Not so! The difinition I cited was from The American Heritage Dictionary. Here's more of the definition it gave:

  ag·nos·tic n. 1. One who believes that there can be no proof of the existence of God but does not deny the possibility that God exists....

  WORD HISTORY: An agnostic does not deny the existence of God and heaven, for example, but rather holds that one cannot know for certain if they exist or not....

  It seems that Greg, STILL a loyal JW, appears to have 'stumbled' with reference to this particular facet of the beliefs of the WTS. Interesting development this is, when considered up beside the prophecy of Daniel 11:35. That prophetic text basically says that, in the time just prior to the beginning of the true “time of the end”, erroneous ideas would become erased from the doctrinal structure of the true Christian Congregation -- all simply as a consequence of “some” of its faithful members having 'stumbled' over such mistaken beliefs.

  If Adam had not sinned, would he be in heaven now?

  one of the ways the wt tries to get you into believing you are not going to heaven even if you d not have faith in christ is by saying that if adam had not sinned we would all be living in a paradise earth.

  the publication "reasoning from the scriptures" states on page 162: "it wa not jehovah's original purpose for man someday to die.......death was to be punishment for disobedience, not the doorway to a better life in heaven.

  obedience would have ben rewarded by continued life, eternal life, in the paradise that god had given to man.

  If Adam hadn't sinned, the world would have filled up with people long before our time, and we won't ever have been alive.

  That's not at all true, Carl. The material universe is literally packed with places (other worlds/planets) for man to multiply and spread out to. Even if we were to suppose that such places weren't yet habitable in say Adam's day, how long would it take for God to make them habitable. Like I've asked before, Carl: Are you sure that you're a retired teacher?

  Galaxies, rather than stars!

  i suppose that if i were an avid reader of the various astronomy magazines available i'd have more of an understanding about this.

  for quite some time i've wondered how astronomers must calculate that there are so many galaxies (although obviously they don't know the precise number).

  i figure that it apparently has to do with first determining that certain points of light, visible through telescopes, are farther out than our own "milky way" galaxy.

  I'm wondering if anyone else has gotten the new computer program called "Deep Space Explorer", and what do they think of it? I decided yesterday to lay down the $$.$$ it takes to own a copy. I tinkered around with it a short while, and was really bedazzled with all that it would do. I would DEFINITELY recommend it.

  ahead of Jehovah's Faithful Slave Class.

  If you had any discernment at all about yourself you'd know that those who "stumble" (mentioned in that verse) are NOT of the FDS. In other words, those who stumble (become troubled) are INDEED "ahead" of the FDS with regard to being aware that major flaws exist within the doctrinal structure of Jehovah's Witnesses. When inspecting that text it's quite apparent that those who supply spiritual food (the FDS) aren't the ones that "stumble". If that were the case you would have the FDS stumbling over their own teachings. It's very clear that those who "stumble" therefore are of the great crowd (the non-anointed), but they have sufficient "insight" to KNOW that some of the teachings of the FDS are problematic.

  I have been involved with witnesses for over 30 years, so I do come from personal experience and knowledge of what goes on in the congregations.

Using the Hubble Space Telescope, researchers exploring the Virgo Cluster of galaxies have found about 600 red giant stars adrift in intergalactic space. [Below] is an artist's vision of the sky from a hypothetical planet of such a lonely sun. The night sky on a world orbiting an intergalactic star would be a stark contrast to Earth's - which features a spectacle of stars, all members of our own Milky Way Galaxy. As suggested by the illustration, a setting red sun would leave behind a dark sky flecked only with faint, fuzzy, apparitions of Virgo Cluster galaxies. Possibly ejected from their home galaxies during galaxy-galaxy collisions, these isolated suns may well represent part of a large, previously unseen stellar population, filling the space between Virgo Cluster galaxies.
