My Non-Earthshaking JW Encounter
by XJW4EVR inthis one is not earthshaking in any way, but i thought i would share it in the hopes that it'll give you the same chuckle that it gave me.. yesterday my wife and i were out on errands, and we ate at a local fast food restaurant.
we ordered, and took our food to our table.
in the table next to us was a mail carrier on his lunch break.

Why can't US witnesses wish "good luck"?
by kifoy ini've often read here on jwd that a jw can't wish someone "good luck".
i've searched this forum and i've searched the wt library, but i have not been able to find anything.
can someone please explain why?

Using My Beard as a Fading Statement
by daniel-p inshould i use my new beard as a way to let jws know i'm firmly faded and am not "discouraged" or otherwise planning on returning any time soon?
or would it be too strong of a statement and make the elders want to hound me?
the memorial is coming up, and while i'm resigned to go yet again, it might be a good time to make a statement.

Family :-(
by Bumble Bee indo you ever wish your family was different than what you have?
i would so love to have the type of family a friend of mine has.
they are all very very close, their children are very close, they get together every sunday for brunch, each sibling takes a turn at having it at their place.

I come from a large family that has been fractured from to many bad things happening over the years, and I've had to come to the sad conclusion that they just aren't going to be a part of my life after all these years. Its hard not to be bitter but I find comfoort in friends and have realized that they have been there for me through the rough times and been better family than family ever was. In fact every Christmas we have a wonderful "orphan christmas" of all our friends that have no family to go home to. I hope you can work yourself in a similiar situation and find peace through surrogate family. :)

My life - A brief history. Part 1
by Galileo inthis post has gotten quite long so i decided to break it up into at least two sections.
i hope it doesnt come across as rambling.
i should start with a confession: it was my smurf that walked out of the kingdom hall in the early 80's.

Your car is a giveaway for your sexual orientation?
by gaiagirl ina jw told me today that mazda miatas are the car of choice for gay men, and subarus are very popular among lesbians.
i asked him how many gay and lesbian folks he actually knew, and what the source for his information was.
he admitted that he didn't know any gays or lesbians, but that "a friend who works in an auto shop" had told him.

Actually subaru admitted that they cater to lesbians. Commercials and stuff. I have tons of gay friends and lots of them drive subarus. Good dependable cars.

Geez, I never realized how supremely lucky I was. I've never been the victim of a crime and I've lived in a semi big city (Denver). Where I live now we don't even lock the house doors ever! I don't even think there are locks for the doors. Nothing here has ever been stolen. I hope I'm not jinxing myself here!
