The very last meeting that I attended, one year ago in Colorado, the Elder said that women and men have no business being friends and there is absoulutely no good reason for them to want to unless they had sexual intentions, men and women couldn't not have a platonic relationship and we were foolish to believe otherwise. This was during the Sunday public talk. It enraged me to think that the society thinks that we are one step up from animals and if left in a room together we would automatically have sex. Sheesh!

Were You Obsessed With Demons?
by minimus infrom my youngest days, i remember being told that we should be careful because of the demons.
they are everywhere, just waiting to pounce on us.
we were told to stay away from windchimes since they "attract" the demons.

Sometimes when something bad happened at home, like when my dad lost his job or something, my mom thought we were being plagued by demons, one time she made a huge bonfire in the yard and burned all the furniture. She also liked to go to Garage sales, but if we arrived at one that was ran by pentecostals, we had a code word and we never would buy anything from them, because my mom was convinced it would invite demons into the house. So yes, I was constantly in fear of demon invasion, because we all know that those sneaky little devils are constantly trying to sneak into our house!

JW Rules That Are Just "Too Much"!
by Ephanyminitas ini'm curious: what rules have you dealt with that were just "too much" -- whether they were "official" (i.e.
in print) or not?.
i think a good, general one is r-rated movies.

how about all the stupid, unwritten rules?
no count dracula or monster cereal
no movies with aliens because the Awake! said believing in aliens mean we don't believe in jesus sacrifice
the one I hated most was when a co in a assembly talk said that we should read one theocratic book for every "worldy" book, Ugh! I loved to read, but having to read a borg book everytime, I just stopped reading all together, or I snuck it. -

Congratulations on your health news! That is so wonderful. I had to laugh that your mom assumed that you'd be unhappy now. I remember being so depressed one day and my mom turning around in the car and being so angry at me because she said "Jehovahs people are happy!" Your giving a bad witness going around with that mope on your face all the time. So on top of having major depression, I was guilty for it because I was letting Jehovah down. So many good things have happened to me since I left the borg, and when I feel sad, I dont' feel guilty, I just get over it now. No more baggage. I hope you all the happiness in the world and I believe you have many more good things to look forward to!

What did you do during the written review
by truthseeker1 inby far the most boring part of all meetings is the written review.
what kind of stuff did you guys (male and female) do to pass the time.
i either to write computer programs, sleep talk to my wife or sleep in the car.

I took my worldly husband to meeting and it happened to be written review night, you should have seen his face! He said in a way to loud voice, "We have to take a goddam TEST?" He never accepted the written review, even when he later got baptized, he wrote in silly and naughty answers to all the questions.

Wife makes a funny
by DB inon the way to dropping my wife off at work this morning, we stopped at an intersection near a funeral home which is constructed very similarly to many kingdom halls.
the following conversation took place:.
me: "that funeral home always reminds me of a kingdom hall.".

I can't help but remember with a shudder the memorial every year, as my mom in all her glory would partake. No one had the guts to tell here that they never believed she was annointed, we just got a lot of dirty looks, and we were treated like the crazy family from space. The kids in the hall always made a scene. It was SO embarassing.

Reading this post was like looking a an entry into my diary! I just wonder if anyone else here has had problems integrating into the world after living like this. I find it hard to trust anyone when they say they love me, because in my life as well as yours, love was very conditional on actions. My mother and sister don't speak to me even though I'm not DA or DS yet. Its hard to break the feeling in relationships that the person will leave if our conduct isn't up to "standards". I can name many other ways that growing up in the borg, causes problems in future life, but thats for another post.
Good night everyone.

Obessed with sex?
by DB innow that i have your attention....really, this is about sex.. this week's issue of newsweek contains an interesting commentary by anna quinlan, found on the last page, that deals with the catholic church's priestly sex scandal and how, for so many years, repressive teachings by the church in matters realting to human sexuality have been very counter-productive and have missed the mark badly while the church at the same time tried to cover-up cases of pedophilia among priests.
examples given include teachings like no divorce (while people suffer in bad marriages), no birth control (thus teaching that sex is not be engaged in simply for pleasure but with the purpose of procreation), and so on.
and yet in the meantime, they obviously missed the boat on the whole problem of sex abuse within their own priesthood.. while jw teachings are not as repressive, at times i have noticed a seeming obsession, if one might call it that, among some jws in matters of a sexual nature.

My worldly husband was appalled at the rules the elders put on members of the congregation. Getting in trouble if you were ever with anyone of the opposite sex alone. At one meeting we were told that there was NO reason for a man and a woman to be friends outside of marriage. My husband was deeply offended that all men or woman where automatically judged to be sex pervs and ready to jump on anyone that they had two minutes alone with. He felt like it was assumed that everyone was animals without restraint. He's not the only one who has been offended at this line of reasoning.
