My Mom's Challenge to Me
by lriddle80 inso my jw mom messages me on facebook last night and says she wants me, for a month, to read the bible, but first pray using the name jehovah and in jesus name and then read it with an open mind.
she is so ridiculous!
first of all, i do pray but i usually just say father and i always pray in jesus name and i find it ironic that she is saying i should have an open mind when hers is closed.

Thanks all! I had an opportunity to share many many different scriptures from her Bible that make a case for the Trinity. I usually back down from any such talk, but about 6 months ago I had to admit to God and myself that I believe it, so I shared it with her. I asked her about salvation and she believes she is saved through Jesus. Well, I have to believe she is, too. My goal is, as a type of hybrid, to build a bridge between JW and Christianity in the spirit of unity. I think God honors that and so I am open to her challenge because this is loving her where she is and not compromising who I am. Lots of people call the Father, Jehovah, and Yahweh and other things. I believe he cares more about what our heart motivations/conditions are than the actual ritual of it, i.e. he did not want the sacrifices per session, but the thought behind it. So I am comfortable doing it. I believe in God and believe he is going to work in this situation! I figure I have one month for God to prepare our hearts for this meeting. I asked him to prepare me before and he came through in ways I didn't even expect! So, I am trusting! -

So my JW mom messages me on Facebook last night and says she wants me, for a month, to read the Bible, but first pray using the name Jehovah and in Jesus name and then read it with an open mind. She is so ridiculous! First of all, I do pray but I usually just say Father and I always pray in Jesus name and I find it ironic that she is saying I should have an open mind when hers is closed. I have a thriving relationship with God. But to honor my mother and to use it as a way to share my faith with her, I just said I would do it, which took a lot to drop my pride. I had been praying that God needed to set something up with her if he wanted me to see her because I had no desire to and then he did! I am going to journal what I learn over the month and then have lunch with her showing her what I hear the spirit saying to me. It may open her mind a little to the actual truth. Nothing is impossible with God!

Jehovah had a wife the ancient Israelites also worshiped Asherah
by Finkelstein inrecent archeological discoveries have found that the ancient israelites were not exactly monotheistic to yahweh, apparently the israelites also worshiped a god which was seen as yahweh's wife asherah.
small carved sculptures have been found in places of worship and homesteads to support these findings.asherah's connection to yahweh, according to francesca stavrakopoulou, is spelled out in the bible and an 8th-century b.c.
inscription on pottery found in the sinai desert at a site called kuntillet ajrud.

Michael Heiser is a leading Bible scholar who studies ancient languages and writings, etc. He has written about this.

Its all about Jews and Gentiles
by Steel inwe you still in the borg when you realized the new testament is about god and the jews and god and the church and basically this whole transfer process from jewish law to this becoming the new person in christ.
its rather weird i once believed in heavenly hopers and earthly hopers and faithful slave classes etc etc.
its seems like something from star trek.

Yes!! And now Jews and gentiles are one in Christ. One hope. I tried to tell my mom this, but she didn't listen. It's pretty obvious, actually.

1980s Brochure/magazine on demon possession?
by caves indoes anyone else remember a brochure/ magazine from the early 80s with stories of demon possessed individuals and spiritism ?

My dad said that his mom was at a study and started having this tunnel vision and could feel the demons. So, after I rebelled and moved out, he came to my house and what do you know, the same thing happened to him in my apartment
It was not the first time I was accused of having demons, ugh. Jerks.

The Memorial
by lriddle80 inso, i went to the memorial to honor my mom.
i got interested because they were going to talk about how jesus saves.
but, they never really told anyone how to be saved.

So, I went to the memorial to honor my mom. I got interested because they were going to talk about how Jesus saves. But, they never really told anyone how to be saved. They said you had to show appreciation for the ransom about 75 times, but never spoke about what that meant. They also said that Christendom teaches that all good people go to heaven. Um, no they don't. What's a "good" person anyway? Because, that's not a thing. No mention of belief.
Then, my family were so loving to me. When I go to their house they barely show any love and I invited them to lunch one time and they were an hour late and my dad barely looked at me or talked much. But there, oh how happy they were, taking pictures, hugging me. It was kind of nice, but it was all a show to get me to come back and I just don't know how to feel about that.

Questions from readers: Pillow talk
by truthseeker ini can't believe they came out with this.... question from readers: should a youth who struggles with masturbation sleep with a pillow?.
you young people know that it is wise to make such restrictions, especially during "the bloom of youth.
" (1 corinthians 7:36).

That's not why God punished Onan. It was because he would not have a baby with his brother's wife. His brother died and they bore no children, so he was supposed to have children with her, but he knew that the kids would be considered his brother's children, so he wasted his seed. They always miss the point!

a question after my first JW meeting
by bleak ini attended my first jw meeting recently.
first, i would like to say what i agree with about the jehovah's witnesses beliefs and practices.. 1. they don't consider israeli's as "god's chosen people" and they don't worship israel as some holy land filled with righteous jews (although there are some there) as most so-called "christians" (christian zionists) erroneously believe they are instead of the "hypocrites" and "vipers" that it is actually filled with.. 2. they don't celebrate "holidays" like easter and christmas which are, in fact, remnants of earlier pagan practices.. 3. they don't put nation before god and christ.
they don't believe in war or going to war because of some crazy government/cia secret agenda.

I believe what Jesus said in his word. Do I have proof? I have personal proof that probably won't mean much to another person. I believe God pursued me and I am so grateful he did! I am all in with Jesus and if it proves not to be true, it won't matter because life with Jesus has been abundant and he restored all that was lost. And I feel loved and accepted.
