Seeker, I phoned my cousin - she said the author is Jane Hamilton - and the book that made it on Oprah's list was "The Book of Ruth" My cousin is under the impression that she IS still a JW - but, of course, could be wrong.:) Since she is a well-known lesbian - likely she is no longer active- perhaps even Dd'd?

Dr. Laura's PhD is in physiology! not psychology. She did, however, complete some training in family counseling. Also, the does have a Jehovah's Witness on her staff. It's just my opinion, but I personally believe she favors the JW's because they are closer to Judiasm then mainline Christianity, belief-wise. I also found out recently that Oprah has some JW's on her staff and that she is a good friend of one JW writer whose book she featured on her 'Book Cllub' list, Perhaps? this is why she has not had any negative input re the JW's (cult) on her show?

"You are the connection to evil." (or, my JW sisters and me)
by Fleur inwhy is it that i have known for so long what to expect of my jw relatives, and they continue to exceed my expectations for crazy-making behavior, yet still sometimes, i am blindsided by a comment so out of left field, so removed from the way that i see my world and the way that i live my life (or try to)...why does it still hurt?.
i have posted before about my sisters.
the oldest is a pioneer and elder's wife.

(((((Essie))))) Scully has summed it all up very nicely. Your sister IS to be pitied. The fact that she has been this way since she was a young child shows this to be true...of course, the way of the dubs only fosters her own evilness. You write so beautifully - I would be first in line to buy a book authored by you. I wish you would consider putting your story/life in an autobiography or even a novel. Love, Zazu

Will you have to pay taxes on that new home you picked out in the wealthy parts of town, while in field service? Will Brooklyn collect these taxes to further their building/printing expansion?

I've been listening to a Dave Brubeck CD most of the day. Earlier I walked over to a small chapel on the campus of a Catholic University - sat there for an hour just reflecting. My daughter helped me shampoo my hair. If I feel up to it, I plan to attend a Hispanic festival this evening. My 5-year-olf grandson, Connor is spending the weekend. I will read him stories and watch some tv with him. Have a big pot of beef barley soup on the stove - sounds good cause it's been cool and rainy here.

Yes, I recently felt compelled to apologize to my Catholic relatives - I realized that outside of friends here on JWD - They have always been there for me. My Catholic god-mother, especially. She phones me frequently to see how I'm doing - unlike her brother my JW elder stepdad. She even to this day, never forgets my birthday - always sending me a card, or some small token of the day. My Catholic cousins are equally considerate. When I apologized - none of them felt it was necessary - they were all very forgiving...realizing that I was so young when my mother became JW and I followed along. Yes, I am glad I phoned them with my apology - it's like a burden off my conscience.

How accountable is the governing body of Jehovah's Witnesses?
by The wanderer inuntitled document <!-- .style1 {font-family: verdana} --> should the governing body of jehovah's witnesses be held accountable?
understandably, this question is going to create some controversy.
however, think for one moment?

Imo, the fact that as a governing panel requires them to 'vote' on issues to be changed, or decided upon - makes them 100% accountable for their policies. If, indeed they had a pipeline to God Almighty - why would they need to vote....why would their God need a 2/3rds majority?
