Though I haven't seen the "Knocking" cd - I think 'most' Jw's will be thrilled with this sympathetic portrayal. But since it does sound like it is a biased presentation, it may well get a lot of negative reaction from ex-Jw's. BTW, I know there was a post re Anderson Cooper and his endorsement of "Knocking." I was telling a friend in ElCerrito, CA (SF area) about this program on the phone yesterday. Interestingly, her brother is gay and she said both Joel Engardio and Anderson Cooper are well-known for rallying for gay causes in the SF area -as both are gay. Anderson Cooper is the son of Gloria Vanderbuilt = money:) Furthermore, I noticed on the "knocking" website that Anderson Cooper is listed as a funding donor. It may be that Joel and Cooper have ties through both the gay movement as well as their journalistic contacts? Just food for thought, IMO.

Will the pro-JW "Knocking" movie backfire on the WT Society?
by moshe inrather than being lots of great pr for the kh, it will bring former jw's who have remained silent out into the open.
they will write and call pbs and their newspapers, too.
they will get an earful and perhaps do the story that should have been done in the first place.

Hi, it's me again

i'm home for the weekend, and feeling a lot better than i was earlier in the week.
i picked up an infection and felt really awful for a day or two, but it's ok now.

Tears for VA TECH....
by ex-nj-jw ini found out late last night and this morning that 2 of the students at va tech that are among the deceased are very close to me.. 1 young man 20 years old in his sophmore year for mechanical engineering and son of a coworker.
1 young man, childhood friend of my 19 year old son, played little league football, baseball and basketball since age 5 was the other.
his mother and i remain good friends and i will be going to her home today to offer my condolences.

SIL succumbs to the cancer :(
by LovesDubs ini wanted to thank all of you who sent prayers and warm thoughts and healing vibes in the direction of my sister in law in california who found out in november that she had pancreatic cancer at age 44. she managed to get five more months before she could fight no more.
my father called yesterday to tell me that despite everyone's best efforts, that she has only a couple days at most to live and that her organs are shutting down.
they are trying to keep her as comfortable as possible and she is surrounded by her family and has a strong faith as a mormon that this isnt the end for her.

Freedom
by sweet pea inwhat a rollercoaster the last couple of days has been.
having been prompted gently and lovingly by husband 'besty' i have examined my faith, sorry the organisation, and finally realised that he has been right all along in his reservations.
i feel all sorts of emotions, mainly happiness at finally feeling free - no more meetings (i never could see why we had to attend 3 a week and always felt stressed about taking the babies along when they should be in bed!

Lithium?
by spoils_useful_habits inrecently one of my brothers was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder by a psychiatrist.
this has hit me hard emotionally because out of the whole bunch we are the closest.
i've always suspected something was up.

My late husband's mother, was bi-polar and was treated with lithium for more then 40 years- she was carefully monitored via blood tests every couple of months. It proved to be a miracle drug for her, IMO, stabalizing wild mood swings. Interestingly, she was DF-d for smoking in the mid-70's and continued to smoke until her death - And, of course, totally shunnned by witnesses and her own daughter. Now, learning that tobacco, has the highest level of lithium in tobacco leaves - one has to question if smoking, indeed was a big therapeutic help to her also? I recall that during one of her many hospitalizations, before lithium was prescribed, her daughter, asserted to Larc, how do we explain 'demon' influence to her doctors. Believing that mental illness was a direct cause of demon influence! I remember Larc once telling her later, once their mother was stabalized with lithium. Okay, XXXX, I guess that means, the "demons" are 'allergic' to lithium.!
