  Now Foot and Mouth Hits My Families Farm.

  i thought that maybe i would keep everyone up to date re the foot and mouth epidemic that is sweeping the uk.. my wifes brother bob has a farm in dumfries, which is just across the scotland border.

  yesterday tony blair visited the area and commended the farmers for their courage in keeping going in the face of almost insurmountable odds.. this morning bob received a letter from the ministry of agriculture.

  his animals are within 5 miles of an outbreak of f & m, and as such they are to be slaughtered in an effort at containment.

  Oh, my, what a tragedy. My sincerest sympathy for your family. To work that hard and then encounter a blow like this is beyond imagining.

  The U.S. hasn't had an outbreak of
  F&M since the very late 20's. Just in the last week there were two suspected
  outbreaks, in Iowa and N. Carolina, that thankfully proved false.

  And, I have read that all international travelers, who were visiting 'infected' areas, are being required, upon re-entry to the States, to use a disinfectant on their shoes! I don't know how effective such measures are - but the 'industry' and farmers here are quite fearful...that's for sure.

  An overdue 'hello and welcome' to you!

  I have not read Twain's "Letters from the Earth." However, he is my husband
  Larc's favorite author. So I will look through his collection and give it a 'read.' Based on your above quotes I think I would enjoy his commentary.

  Twain could really be frank and scathing re his thoughts about religion, politics, etc. He was a master at highlighting 'absurdities,'
  frequently with great humor but sometimes, not!

  Did you know he wrote a book called
  "Christian Science" which ripped apart the concept of CS as well as it's founder,
  Mary Baker Eddy? It was penned under his name, Samuel Clemens. Well worth the read IMO. A bit hard to find though...it often disappeared from libraries...probably 'taken' by CS adherents. To bad he wasn't around to
  'get his hands' on Rutherford! Bet that would have been a 'masterpiece.' LOL

  THINKER - if you see this - If I recall correctly, Twain wrote an essay on "Free Will" - you could probably find it online. :)

  Greenberg tonight, and follow-up with a longer, hard copy mailed to him with my thoughts on this issue and the WTBTS.

  Please be certain to let us know the
  broadcast date as soon as it is confirmed. I have been writing politicians at all levels in my state regarding JW's, Mormons, and any other 'churches' that engage in similar cover-ups. I feel that this is important, for at some future time stronger laws must be legislated and
  these are the people who will have that power. When the air date is set, I plan to e-mail all, urging them to watch the program. I also have a list of all 'children's social service' agencies in my state, and will inform them also.

  Thanks for your account. What a "friend" you had! Glad you are now free, but am also sympathetic re your own sister and her family...truly know what's that like.

  I remember reading about the 'parking scandal' - and thought at the time how petty it was of the Borg to violate established policy just to gather in more dollars. I admire your father for exposing their tactics.

  Actually, I was enjoying the read -- was always a favorite of mine. I especially love her illustrations, truly exquisite. Often read it to my granddaughter, who could probably teach me a few things re computers!

  Hi Expat,

  Larc and I received the same 'label'
  when we 'saw the light' and were trying to disengage - it hurt! Funny part was larc had decided to pursue higher education, and our budget was quite 'strained.' And I can remember times when I dug deep into sofa/car recesses to find any possible loose change to buy a quart of milk or the rare treat of a pint of ice-cream.

  My personal take is that they would rather put 'materialistic' as a label on you than 'disbeliever.' Sigh, it's sad for them and us.

  I Can`t Get To Grips With This FDS Thing.

  i`m trying to understand the process by which jw`s link the "faithful and discreet slave" parable to a belief that this refers to a number of people who will go to heaven ie: 144,000.. also, i am trying to understand how, by extension, some of this number comprise a "governing body" that is at the top of "jehovahs earthly organisation".. i really dont understand how these conclusions are reached and would appreciate some input.

  please note that when i posted this question on h20 some months ago i received only 1 reply from friday, who saw fit to ridicule me for my lack of knowledge on this subject.

  i still don`t know the answer!

  Just some thoughts:

  I was ten years old when my Mother started studying with the JWs. So, my association with the Borg started in the early 50's. There were many of the 'anointed' in our congregation. Trying to do a quick mental count I've come up with at least 14 names in my congregation alone. Came up with at least 8 more in other area congregations. Not a one of them had a 'clue' regarding 'new light' - all were just as eager as the rank-and-file publisher to see what Brooklyn was coming up with in terms of new understanding/mandates. They 'ooooed
  and awwwed' along with the 'lowlys.'

  So, Englishman 'incredible' is right on - this is way beyond ANY possible belief or understanding re the 'enlightened' so-called FDS class. Zeeesh!!!!

  Furthermore, there was never any talk about a 'governing body' - no, it was all Knorr, Knorr, Knorr and under him a
  few other 'prominent' names. Then, Franz, Franz, Franz and, again, a few other 'recognized' names. When people talked about the 'society' they were referring to Knorr, and later Franz - not a GB. That, of course, changed in the 70's...and Fred Franz didn't like it a bit.

  The whole concept of the Tower's FDS is beyond the pale - a total CROCK.

  And, did you ever consider a scenario like this - you could have been baptized when you were very young, say 10 or so, during the early to mid 30's - and you were one of the 144,000 - one of the FDS!!! EVER SO ENLIGHTENED. I personally knew a few that fell into that category. LOL

  The Sydney BBQ report

  well folks i just came from the sydney bbq.

  it was good to meet some of the faces behind the names of the posters here... it was funny every time another car rolled up one of us jumped up to show the security keys, i felt like a bit of a goose but it worked.

  no uninvited elders showed up.. there was heaps of food and the chocolate mud cake was delicious.
