What do Americans actually really know about???
by invisible inwhat do americans in general actually really know about the big outside world outside of their own culture?.
it's certainly not just me, but for years since early childhood in fact, it has been commonly accepted by many, that americans in general are the biggest ignorant fools residing almost anywhere on the planet, yet they still do their damndest to have everyone believe what a great nation they are.
is it even beyond their comprehension how foolish they look often to the rest of the world, the fact that they have so little understanding of problems on the worldwide front?.

Let's turn the tables - I want to know why, everytime I go to the UK (at least once a year) someone has to spurt off some nasty anti-American comment to me. I am not a loud obnoxious overweight American. I'm a very quiet person who dresses in a toned-down goth fashion (down to the dyed black hair) and wears a size 5. But yet, the few times I've had to open my mouth, someone has to say something negative about America. Yea, I know we're not the best and I know we were jerks in World War II coming in at the last minute, etc...., and numerous of us throw things at the TV during the evening news because we love to give lots of hints to terrorists about where to strike next, but I can't help where I was born....can't we all call a truce?

What kind of dreams did you have as a JW?
by Preston ini've been doing some research on dream interpretation lately and as i would like to know if you ever had any strange or recurring dreams when you were a jw.
for instance, if you often had dreams of being chased by the police or some type of powerful entity, it could represent your struggle with the quthority that the organization often represented itself to be.
i think it's an interesting topic, just thought i'd see if you guys had anything to add.... .

Wow! I had the teeth falling out dream too! Does anyone know what it means?
Also, I used to have a lot of really sexually graphic dreams and wake up feeling like I needed to be publicly reproved for it.

Are you more interested now?
by In_between_days ini may be alone here, but are you more interested in jw docrines, change of docrines, watchtowers, km's and othe jw publications now that you are an ex member as opposed to when you were a witness?.
i realised this the other day, when i was cleaning out a wardrobe and there was a "knowledge" book, i got so excited and read the whole thing, looking up scriptures as i went when they were quoted.
(this was accompanied by a soundtrack of consistant scoffs, snorts and "what the hells".?").

I used to do ex-JW research. But now, having been gone for 7 years, when I hear of a new change in doctrine, I just sigh, shake my head, and think "why can't those still in the organization see what's going on here".

PLN and JWs
by simplesally ini was just reading over there and thought some of them should really think before they post!
some real jerk posted this: umm, don't count your time spent eating lunch - unless you witness to the waitress.
give her a real tip - how to get into the new system.. .

Nothing would make me more annoyed than have someone try to witness to me when I'm working (in my job - I'd be likely to blow something up if I was destracted like that). And, as far as the spelling is concerned, I heard from someone that the majority of witnesses are the least educated members out of any religion. Does anyone have any proof of that?

Scriptures JW's Apply Exclusively To Themselves
by stevieb1 inone example of this trend that i came across is found in acts 15:14 which according to the nwt reads:.
"symeon has related thoroughly how god for the first time turned his attention to the nations to take out of them a people for his name.".
we can also add v.17 which states: "in order that those who remain of the men may earnestly seek jehovah, together with people from all the nations, people who are called by my name, says jehovah, wh is doing these things,".

You're exactly right. It's funny how they view themselves as the "new" chosen people because the Jews were rejected. When I read these things I used to wonder why God was a bigot - only selecting certain people throughout time and to hell with the rest.

I had an experience just like yours. Quite a while ago I contacted an XJW who turned out to be my first Witness boyfriend. He was so scared to tell me he was gay now. And I was so happy for him I'm sure he heaved a sigh of relief. Hey - Its all good when you finally get to be who you truly are!

JWs: No Room for Misgivings?
by Room 215 init seems to me that in years past, a jw who admitted to having doubts, etc.,but who affirmed his/her belief in say 80 percent of the doctrines, but couldn't bring himself/herself to acccept the balance, while at the same time pledging not to ``cause trouble'' over his/her misgivings who be more or less left alone.
today, however, it seems to be more of an ``all or nothing'' paranoia that prevails.
i guess my question is whether a ``comfort zone'' for wavering but basically loyal jws to wriggle around in, or must they be resigned to eventrual epulsion?

I think there are a lot of other factors to be considered, like the doubting person's position in the social pecking order. For example, the "all or nothing" philosophy may be applied to Mr. Ordinary Publisher, but an elder's wife with some doubts who promises to keep her mouth shut for the sake of her husband may be given lots of room for independant thought.
One thing I realized when I was a JW is that the congregational playing field is not level for everyone.
