There goes the typical jw rumour mill again - it's rediculous. You see this sort of thing in every congregation. It's disgusting.

Is apostate an appropriate term for us?
by sleepy in.
how do you feel?do you like to be called apostate ?.
apostate just means: someone who renounces a former belief or principle.. to people who have never been witnesses it may not symbolise much.but to witnesses the word means a lot.in many of their minds it is synonymous with evil and perverted.. since it jw's who will likely call us apostate not others the term almost always has a bad or negative useage.. but it does identify us as people who have completely rejected the religion.. so is it good for us to use it or not?

I was at first disturbed when my mother called me an apostate and pretty much implied that my days for living were numbered. However, these days I'm kind of proud of bearing the title. If "they" want to label me an apostate, I'll wear it proudly.

Cult Sacrifices Child
by cyrano intaunton, massachusetts - a religious sect leader who said he was following instructions from god when he let his infant son slowly starve to death was convicted of murder friday and sentenced to life in prison without parole.. the jury took 6 1/2 hours to find 29-year-old jacques robidoux guilty of first-degree murder.
his son, samuel, was fed only his mother's breast milk for 51 days and died in 1999, three days shy of his first birthday.. during the trial, robidoux said his sister had received a vision from god telling the couple to stop feeding the baby solid food.. robidoux choked back tears as he described how samuel went from a healthy, 10-month-old boy taking his first steps to a baby so withered he could no longer even crawl.
his tiny bones were visible, and he cried in pain.. "his cry wasn't a normal baby's cry," robidoux testified.

I read this account back in 1999, when it first came to light. I was absolutely sickened by it. It's so scary when religion causes one to abandon common sense and even, maternal instinct.

Giving thanks in restaurants!
by Beck_Melbourne inwhen i was in dub-dom....i used to hate eating out....my ex always made us bow our heads and close our eyes tight shut while he gave thanks out loud.
did you do that in public??
or did you do it discreetly with your head bowed but eyes not shut....or.....head in hand...hoping people would think u were in deep thought?

I always thought that prayers out loud in a restaurant were an imposition on the other people eating. There are two born-again Christians at my work that are dating and, every day at the lunch-table, they hold both hands accross the table, bow heads, and the guy says a loud prayer. It really makes all of us uncomfortable.

JW becoming normal religion
by Realist inam i wrong or is there a trend to make the wt to a normal religion?
first they gave up to predict who the new king of the north is.
then they stopped predicting the end of the world.

It'll happen so slowly that those inside will never notice...Either that or the current or the next scandal will destroy it with lawsuits.

The friends, the truth and loaded language
by detective inas many people already know, using the term "the truth" to describe an organization's teachings is a brilliant way to constantly reaffirm it's validity subconsciously.
it's a great use of repetition to establish as fact that which is only opinion.. i keep hearing the phrase "the friends".
aside from the fact that i really don't like the terminology, i couldn't help but wonder if this isn't just another use of repetition and loaded language to enforce the belief that all of the people who share the same religion actually are your friends.. in some ways, i think it would be beneficial for some folks to drop "the truth" and "the friends" from their vocabulary so that they aren't continuing to immerse themselves in group-lingo that's intended to elicit certain emotional responses and associations.. what other loaded language can you come up with that is quasi-specific to jehovah's witnesses?

How about the whole concept of "the world", with it's "worldly associations", "no part of the world" and "keep separate from the world". No wonder I had no friends as a JW.

Zenpunk's theory and my addition
by imissthedub inwas reading zenpunk's thread about how it seems ex jw's go over the deep end and i tend to agree.
i think that is normal after being repressed for so long.. however, it would sure be nice if we had more than one chat room here.
i have visited the chat several times and it seems that usually (not always) it is about who was the drunkest, who had sex with someone, who is a lesbian, etc etc etc.

Hello again imiss - I agree with you. See - I didn't go "off the deep end" at all when I left. But I've noticed many who have - displaying shocking behaviour by almost all standards. And I've seen some of the chatroom antics you describe - it's kind of a shame really - but it all goes back to my theory. Anyway, you can be assured that I will never be rude to you in the room, so don't walk out on all of us! Take care -
