I used to do ex-JW research. But now, having been gone for 7 years, when I hear of a new change in doctrine, I just sigh, shake my head, and think "why can't those still in the organization see what's going on here".

Are you more interested now?
by In_between_days ini may be alone here, but are you more interested in jw docrines, change of docrines, watchtowers, km's and othe jw publications now that you are an ex member as opposed to when you were a witness?.
i realised this the other day, when i was cleaning out a wardrobe and there was a "knowledge" book, i got so excited and read the whole thing, looking up scriptures as i went when they were quoted.
(this was accompanied by a soundtrack of consistant scoffs, snorts and "what the hells".?").

PLN and JWs
by simplesally ini was just reading over there and thought some of them should really think before they post!
some real jerk posted this: umm, don't count your time spent eating lunch - unless you witness to the waitress.
give her a real tip - how to get into the new system.. .

Nothing would make me more annoyed than have someone try to witness to me when I'm working (in my job - I'd be likely to blow something up if I was destracted like that). And, as far as the spelling is concerned, I heard from someone that the majority of witnesses are the least educated members out of any religion. Does anyone have any proof of that?

Scriptures JW's Apply Exclusively To Themselves
by stevieb1 inone example of this trend that i came across is found in acts 15:14 which according to the nwt reads:.
"symeon has related thoroughly how god for the first time turned his attention to the nations to take out of them a people for his name.".
we can also add v.17 which states: "in order that those who remain of the men may earnestly seek jehovah, together with people from all the nations, people who are called by my name, says jehovah, wh is doing these things,".

You're exactly right. It's funny how they view themselves as the "new" chosen people because the Jews were rejected. When I read these things I used to wonder why God was a bigot - only selecting certain people throughout time and to hell with the rest.

I had an experience just like yours. Quite a while ago I contacted an XJW who turned out to be my first Witness boyfriend. He was so scared to tell me he was gay now. And I was so happy for him I'm sure he heaved a sigh of relief. Hey - Its all good when you finally get to be who you truly are!

JWs: No Room for Misgivings?
by Room 215 init seems to me that in years past, a jw who admitted to having doubts, etc.,but who affirmed his/her belief in say 80 percent of the doctrines, but couldn't bring himself/herself to acccept the balance, while at the same time pledging not to ``cause trouble'' over his/her misgivings who be more or less left alone.
today, however, it seems to be more of an ``all or nothing'' paranoia that prevails.
i guess my question is whether a ``comfort zone'' for wavering but basically loyal jws to wriggle around in, or must they be resigned to eventrual epulsion?

I think there are a lot of other factors to be considered, like the doubting person's position in the social pecking order. For example, the "all or nothing" philosophy may be applied to Mr. Ordinary Publisher, but an elder's wife with some doubts who promises to keep her mouth shut for the sake of her husband may be given lots of room for independant thought.
One thing I realized when I was a JW is that the congregational playing field is not level for everyone.

I kind of try to lead people to their own conclusions. I don't want to intentionally religion-bash because I wouldn't do that to any religion. But sometime a series of so-called innocent questions on your part can lead someone to do some serious thinking.

Why do they go back?
by zenpunk ini always hear at least two stories a year about someone i know who's left the "truth" goes back despite the trauma surrounding their departure.
this morning i heard yet another story.
a few years ago and elder's wife in my former uk congregation abruptly left the organization, surprising everyone and getting a big df in the process.

To tdogg,
The incident is listed in the NTSB list of aircraft incidents and the situation was described as "rollover turbulence" where there was 1 injury (the air hostess). There's no mention of a tornado. However, once we reached the ground we were immediately taken to a separate room (lawsuit control I'm sure) and this was the explanation that was given. At the time I thought it was a load of crap and that there was a mechanical problem with the plane. But, when I got to the hotel I put on the weather channel and found out that there was some tornado activity, though there weren't any "touchdowns". I've been to Indiana many times and I think they get some pretty severe weather.

Hi Haereticus - No - I realize it would have happened no matter who I was. For all I know, an active JW may have been on that flight with me.

I always hear at least two stories a year about someone I know who's left the "truth" goes back despite the trauma surrounding their departure. This morning I heard yet another story. A few years ago and elder's wife in my former UK congregation abruptly left the organization, surprising everyone and getting a big DF in the process. And now, three years later she's suddenly back, working hard to get reinstated. And I just wonder why? Is it that these individuals don't have a support system outside of the organization? It makes me fear that, even after 7 years, this could happen to me. In fact it almost did last year....
Last August I was on a flight from LaGuardia to Indianapolis when the 22-seat regional jet flew over the top of a funnel cloud (unexpected tornado activity) and flipped upside down. I was seated accross from the galley and saw the flight attendant fall to the ceiling. Grabbing on to the seat rests (everyone else had seatbelts on) I looked out the window, saw the ground above me and saw that we were falling rapidly. Alarms were going off and people were screaming. And I begged for God to save me (it's instinctive you know). The pilot was ex-military and he pulled us out of it in barrel-roll fashion (whew). When I got back I was plagued with nightmares so my mother had a sister my age come and talk to me. I hounded her with questions - poor girl. However, when she answered my questions by saying I should just accept the society for now as the truth, have a study, and everything will fall into place - I ended the conversation and said "this is not for me".
One of my closest friends decided a few months ago that she needs to get back in the organization. She found a field service territory on the ground one day and took it as a sign. And, what's more, she feels she needs to purge herself to the elders (of her sins) - they should have a field day with that. And, alls I have to ask is: Why does this happen?
