I remember getting a lot of grief for going out in service at another hall. At my former hall there were a lot of mornings where no one would show up for service or there would be 6 people and they would decide that there was no room for me. So I would drive 5 minutes away to the neighboring congregation where I got a much nicer welcome. But, in the end I got counseled for it of course.

Attending the "right" hall
by freedom96 inthere always seemed to be such a big stink about making sure you went to the hall that you were assigned to.
whatever territory that you lived in, that would be the hall assignment, whether you liked it or not.. if you chose not to go to your assigned hall, boy was there ever flack.
you could get severely counciled for it.. just seems to be another stupid rule that they would get upset about.

Elders? Ministerial servants? Pioneers
by lv4fer ini'm just curious.
how many of you were elders or ministerial servants or pioneers?
were you an elder or ms or pioneer when you realized it wasn't the truth or a had you stepped down already, were you "weak" when you realized it?

Regular pioneer for 5 years...I really felt like I was helping people. Now I regret convincing people of what I now know is false.

Seaken - I think I may know you - were you there assigned from the Farm? I knew lots of people from Shokan. The Highland crowd used to hang out with some from Shokan. Email me if you want. [email protected].

Do the loving elders hate you?
by JH indo you have the impression that the elders never liked you, and were happy to see you leave, because they simply didn't like your way of thinking?
maybe if you came back, they would do everything to get you disfellowshipped again.

There was an elder in particular who was after me, particularly because he didn't care for my attitude. It was tough because he was also my dad's boss. One thing kind of funny about him was that he had broken his middle finger once at the knuckle - thus he was always givin' everyone the finger!

I will be with a group of 21 from 3 different colleges. During the week we will be attending lectures at the Casa de las Americas in Havana in the morning and then in the afternoon we will visit a certain site related to the morning lecture. For example, if we had a lecture about the economy in the morning, we would go visit a Cuban business in the afternoon, etc. We're going to such places as the Museo de la Ciudad, Museo de la Revolucion, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, La Vigia, etc. We are also taking a trip to Trinidad to observe the restoration of historic buildings. From about 4pm onward we are on our own and we're encouraged to go somewhere for dinner, etc. (always in groups of at least 3 or so - and have a Spanish speaking person with us). We also have a couple of free days where we can go where we choose (once again in small groups).
As our info packet says - "sex with strangers is never a good idea". I plan to behave! I'm very exicted about this trip since so few Americans are able to go to Cuba legally.

Thank you so much Marcos - you put a lot of helpful information in a few short paragraphs. I will email you if I think of any more specific questions. I must say, I'm a little nervous about going - that I really have to keep my wits about me.
Merry Xmas!

The big talk with parents - need help!
by zenpunk inmy husband and i have decided to start a family this summer.
as exciting as that may be there's one issue that weighs heavily on my mind - what to do about both our sets of jw parents.
should we lay some ground rules down with them before the baby arrives (which they will probably break anyway)?

Well said Kelsey007 - for all the talk the JWs have of "winning someone over without a word", a good example can keep someone away from the WTS.

Thanks path - I will be in Havana and Trinidad in January as well. I plan on giving away most of what I pack - we've been "briefed" about the poverty by the US State Dept.
