i thought i remember reading that adventists and others do this.

this is an interesting article i found.

i guess if you were to ask anyone on a street anywhere in the world what they think is the leading developed country in the world, they'd probably say the us.

Why are the some here so bitter?

You failed to mention another distinction we have with Europeans right here on JWD. Americans seem to rank last on the list of JWD topics bashing those of other nationalities. It's no wonder that Europe is the reoccurring scene of bitter, bloody, ethnic and national infighting, not to mention 2 world wars and a infamous legacy of imperialistic atrocities. You sure are an intolerant bunch. I wonder how long it is before someone has to quell yet another European quagmire.

seeing this is the 5th anniversary of jwd, i was curious as to how many who still post here, were dyed in the wool jws, but later sucumbed to "the truth about the truth" .

were an active/semi-active jw, and this site and others were enough to convince you that your doubts had substance.

Then: I was fresh out of Bethel and just came back from an International construction gig and somewhat disenchanted by the realities of dubdom. I lurked here a little just to see what it was all about. I knew about things from the inside so I was pretty sure everyone here was full of sh*t . That's still true for the most part (tee hee), but the Dub stuff was right on the money! I actually remember the exact moment when the light went "on", it was at an assembly when the announcer said "Listen to what Jeehobah has prepared for you this weekend" - Jehovah my ass!, I said to myself. Instead of daydreaming about hot chicks or perfect surf that weekend, I consolidated all of the what I knew first hand from Bethel, the false predictions, crazy teachings and asked myself "Is Jehovah's really behind all this?" Alot of doubts were swirling around then lurked here a little more and began to see things for what they were .. then BAM! - the Bill Bowman/Silent Lambs saga unfolded.... and BAM BAM!, I read C of C, then, POW!, the UN thing came to light. I was all done.

Now: I find it embarrassing that I was ever duped by those idiots. I think the God of the Bible is a fictional genocidal maniac. Life could only be better if my folks and sibling weren't hunkered down waiting for doomsday. Man am I greatful for this and other sites.

While we're on the topic, the top 5 most influential websites in my exudos were: JWD,WT Observer, Freeminds, Quotes, and Watchtower news.

It's now illegal to own a hand gun in the UK and whilst we still have gun related crime within the criminal elements of society, we don't have pissed off teenagers being able to massacre their classes at school because they cannot get hold of guns.
If you have easy access to firearms in a violent culture where you are continually taught that violence is the answer (John Wayne films, illegal wars etc) then what do you expect?

No, you don't have too many "pissed off teenagers" making disconcerting headlines. But, since you've disarmed law abiding citizens you now have this:

Unfortunately Britian's crime rate is higher than the U.S. in every category except rape and murder (although these are at all time highs and climbing). Since the handgun ban in 1997, violent crime has increased by at least 66%. Some say it's because the government has practically outlawed self defense, charging people even if they are defending thier home. One statistic I found alarming is that over HALF of all burgleries are committed with the person at home!

I'm no fan of weapons, but the ability of a citizen to defend their family and home is a fundemental right and deters crime . Police interviews have repeatedly shown criminals in the US fear two things when confronting a victim (in this order) 1) they may be shot or killed by the victim. 2) they may go to jail. Perhaps this is why you are half as likely to be a victim of violent crime in the US than in the UK.

I knew a supposedly annointed, middle aged lady from the Niagra Falls area that used to sell herbal medicine. She was an "Iridologist" who could diagnose almost any ailment by looking at your eyes. Coincidentally almost every diagnosis involved a colon cleanse made from her witches brew for which she charged steeply. She claimed all sorts of death-bed healings from her medicine - pure quackery. She had quite a following in that area too. I wouldn't be surprised if some here have heard of her.

you name it - c of c, gentile times reconsidered, thirty tears a watchtower slave, the orwellian world of jehovah's witness, apocalypse delayed, and the freeminds and watchtower observer sites, so on and so on.

and i have been reading the posts on this site regularly pretty much since it started, and hourglass before it.

Claim: We're no part of the world. Reality: WT secretly affiliates with UN then hurriedly dissassociates, and fabricates a cover story.

Claim: The Earthwide Remnant is the Faithful Slave providing food. Reality: Remnant excluded entirely, spiritual input left to Brooklyn heavies.

Claim: We are not inspired prophets, therefore not false prophets. Reality: Numerous dates and teachings presented as info from God.

Claim: We have the truth. Reality: We hide from the truth and punish investigation.

Claim: We are God's organization. Reality: Despite expectations, no evidence of divine backing typical of Biblical representatives of God.

I agree with Pole, If you can't put two and two together, what do you want from us? You seem comforted that you remain unconvinced. Maybe you should stay a witness. They take care of the thinking for you.

so has anyone got any actual concrete proof?

Gee slim, You asked for "proof" that WT monitors websites. Almost immediatly proof was posted (Watchtower Information Service) Additionally "Quotes" maintains a Website that has recently received a "cease and desist" letter from WT lawyers. That has been discussed here too.

You stuck your neck out there saying some were "dreaming" if they think sites like thess are worthy of monitoring, yet that is exactly the case. All we've established with this topic is 1) you appear naive, and 2) Brooklyn is paranoid.

So do you have another point to make?
