ARE ELDERS TAKING A CHANCE?

i ask this in all seriousness because we all know that each of us has a different boiling point.

i've spoken to quite a number of exjws (and even jws when i was a borgite) who've said something like "i'd really like to smash (put elder's name here)'s face in!".

well, what if someone had his or her loved one separated from them through shunning, for example?

The elders who treated me so coldly and indifferently - well the leader got to see his oldest daughter become a lesbian and a drug user. Which isn't a problem in MY book, but I imagine the pain must have been terrible for him. How embarassing, to one minute be denouncing and unforgiving and merciless... and then to be suddenly dropped into the mud, trampled by your own flesh and blood...

Makes me giggle. I'm not perfect. I can appreciate life's little ironies. Alhtough I do hope it made him a more merciful and compassionate person, although I doubt it. But you never know.

Should Bush Make His STATE Visit To The UK Next Week?

note that i'm talking about a state visit, not your run-of-the-mill political scenario.. state visits from visiting presidents, kings and queens involve open-top parades through pall mall next to queen lizzie in an open landau, several nights in the best suite at buckingham palace, soldiers and guardsmen in full regalia and banquets galore until the excellent food pops out your ears.

that's a state visit.

i don't think that we've had a full state visit from a us president since jfk.. now, our good friend george dubya is expected for a state visit next week.

I think Bush might surprise you with his affability and the way he can just get people to "not mind him so much". It's an underrated talent in the political world - the ability to get people, not to avidly support you, but not to hate you either.

Witnesses and laziness

is it just me, or does the dub lifestyle encourage astounding degrees of laziness?

we're expected to sit quietly at the meetings and be spoon feed repititious information without thinking for ourselves.

dubs are discouraged from making any decisions without the counsel or approval of the society.

I would agree that the word we're looking for here is apathy. We have a corporate neutrality regarding politics. I remember out in service one day an elder explained that if the whole world became Witnesses, nobody would be able to make decisions, because everyone would decide not to rule themselves, and therefore nobody would be setting sewage rates. He actually said "Nobody would be able to set the sewage rate."

I'm like, what, you mean Jesus is going to pop downstairs and say, "Hey, pay for the sewage!"

Does the average witness still believe in Armageddon?

i havent' been to kingdom hall in over a year, and i haven't talked to any dubs other than my parents for three years now.

i was wondering if anybody still had any contacts in the truth and how the average dub is feeling about the immediacy of armageddon?.

i remember growing up that this was an omnipresent motivation, especially when the whole "peace and security" thing happened in the early nineties, and we were expecting "sudden destruction" after the collapse of the soviet union.. but safe to say, i'm not worried about armageddon anymore - and i was wondering what the feeling was in the congregations.... czar

The Circuit Overseer Says 'Just Do More'.........

my mother told me that last night's meeting was about how we all simply have to do more.

if we are asked to work on a saturday, we should know that saturday morning belongs to jehovah and that the automatic answer simply is "no, that time is set aside for jehovah.

" he said our congregation is down to 60 something publishers and we simply just can't afford to lose anymore..... he gave an example of a boy and his dad that were out hunting.

My mother just told me that the CO also said that if a person marries out of the Lord, they may not get disfellowshipped right now but when Armageddon comes, God will judge them as being dead.

I'll be holding my breath. Really.

When Armageddon comes?
