  remember the fears everyone had when aids first hit the news?.

  here was a new killer virus that didn't have a cure and people feared it could be passed on cups, on seats, by shaking hands, by coughing and sneezing and so on.. it turns out that it couldn't and while there is still no cure, the infection rate is actually relatively low.

  it takes 2 years for an aids victim to infect someone else.. now we have sars, everything changes.

  I think that SARS was just a media feeding frenzy. Sure, it was a real thing, but it was publicized completely out of context and with tons of pictures of Hong Kong officials in surgical masks.

  The real test is whether or not it comes back this winter. The Spanish Flu in 1918 (remember the WT emphasizing about this) actually had a first wave in the early months, then faded as most flus do during the summer and fall, and then resurged with a vengeance in the winter. It was the typical flu pattern, but with deadlier results than most.

  at walter reed medical center in washington dc recently the sergeant major of the army, jack tilley, was with a group of people visiting the wounded soldiers.

  he saw a special forces soldier who had lost his right hand and suffered severe wounds of his face and side of his body.

  the sma wanted to honor him and show him respect without offending, but what can you say or do in such a situation that will encourage and uplift?

  Another New Rule-----You Can't Record Prayers at the District Convention

  my mother told me that she got a video from a sister that already went to the convention.

  the entire program was recorded except for the prayers.

  the sister said the society says we have to shut off the recording if the prayer is being given.

  Hey - why doesn't the society record prayers at Bethel and then ship them out, like the songs, to be played at the meetings? That could standardize everything and help the brothers avoid unecessary and inappropriate personal expressions of faith.

  my jw honey came back from the meeting with this earth-shattering announcement.

  he is prancing around the house with this new-found knowledge that i have not had the priveledge to hear, understand, or appreciate.. got any good comeback lines?

  Sports, eh? Get him a hobby like motocross, or... MUDWRESTLING!!!

  Take him to a strip bar. Get him to make small compromises. Get him drunk, then offer him a joint. Ask if he'd like to watch you getting a massage from one of those ladies in the back of the alternative newsweekly.

  Small steps. Once he is completely destroyed, he can be rebuilt if he wants to be. It will be a rough road. One cannot throw off years of mental conditioning overnight.

  Is he a good man? If so, he needs to be told that, because his guilt might cause him to try to leave you. If he's not a good man, however, throwing off the shackles might be more than he can handle...

  well i went to the assembly yesterday, to see what bullshit they'd come up with this year to be upbuilt and i certainly won't go next year wasn't disappointed!

  I wouldn't go to the assembly unless high moved by the spirit. There is absolutely no a huge chance of me ever obscenely and noisily causing a scene falling into the snare of independent thinking.

  many here don't believe in god anymore so can't believe in any resurrection.

  so what do you expect once you die?.

  and if you believe that there is nothing after this life, are you working overtime in this life to get the most out of it because there is nothing after...

  Well, what do you really want out of this life?

  When you face your mortality, you find out what kind of person you are. A good person will cram as many good deeds into his remaining days as possible. A bad person (like Satan) will cram as much evil in as possible.

  If, JH, you assume that people facing death and nonexistence will cram in a hedonistic lifestyle, then perhaps you yourself are secretly longing for a hedonistic existence. In which case, why not live that life now? Because you are certainly going to die someday anyway, and probably when you think it least likely!

  Good people will do good things because they ARE the Light. Bad people will do bad things because they choose to love the Darkness. Death is a sidenote, really.

  As for what is after, well, I'm pretty sure there is something for the intelligent creatures, and maybe for the animals, too. After all, there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy (science). And the whole experience of life seems geared to teach and improve the individuals.

  I think the real proof of Ray Franz' veracity is in the effect his words have on those who read them.

  For people who never fit in with the organization, who found the claims of being "God's sole channel of communication with the earth" a little far-fetched, whose minds rebelled at the idea of billions being slaughtered for doing what humans have always done, who were disturbed by the increasing emphasis on tradition and repetitious "study", whose jaws dropped to the floor at the casual restructure of the 1914 dogma, who read the Bible and found less there than was claimed - well, Ray Franz' work was a beacon of light, a refreshing confirmation of the terrible truth we already suspected, even subconsciously.

  The dubs are a human organization. That's what the book claims and proves. The great blasphemy of the WT being God's spirit directed organization was exposed in terms that the layman could understand. All hail the Great Deliverer who has freed us from bondage to this madness.
