  WT Bookshelf CD - I need your help!

  hello folks,.

  i saw here and downloaded the other day the wt bookshelf cd (i think it was englishman who posted it?

  all great comments!

  But how does one make these files searchable? I am impressed with the PDF files on the Bookshelf CD because they are scanned images of the pages yet they are completely searchable.

  LadyLee, drwtsn32 is right. That is exacly what we trying to achieve: making it searcheable.

  I learned that scanning the page at 300 dpi will do for the OCR. But the text result has a lot of misspellings. Unacceptable. That's why I raised the point of which is the best software to do OCR part.

  So would I have to do 2 scannings of the same page: one for the OCR and another one for the pdf itself?

  Yeah, I tried that but it didn't seem to work. I have now learned that the creators of the PDF files on the bookshelf CD used a combination of Omnipage (OCR software) and Acrobat.

  It would be great to hear from any of the creators. Anyway you could put me in contact with any of them?

  hello folks,

  I saw here and downloaded the other day the WT Bookshelf CD (I think it was Englishman who posted it?) but couldn't find the thread.

  It had been a while since I wanted to do something similar with the books in the Portuguese language. Me and a couple of friends are in the process of gatherings the books to do just that. The problem is that we are facing a few technical challenges (OCR, for example) So I just would like to get in touch with whoever made that CD or knows how to do it, to give me some guidelines.

  Typical question: I have Acrobat (maker) and Photoshop 7. Are these the best software to do the job? Is there any other software to do the Optical Caracter Recognition bether than Acrobat itself?

  I believe I have the basic skills to do it, but some guidance would be very helpful and appreciated. Brazil is the second country in the world in number of JWs and we think that looking at the "old truths" will help a lot of people. Also researchers would love it.

  they're saying the prophecy is possibly fulfilled of "peace and security and then sudden destruction" in the year 1986 when world leaders dubbed that year as the "year of peace".

  the feb.1st watchtower mentions that just as a pregnant woman over 9 months gradually has signs of a baby's growth in the womb, so too, we may have a fulfillment of bible prophecy without knowing it fully beforehand until the effects and results become obvious.

  my mother read excerpts of the wt.

  First of all, they seem to codemn people for being optimistic. It's no wonder why the typical JW has a gloomy view of things. But most of all they forget the reasons why people are optimistic. Ironically these reasons can be found in the very first paragraph:

  There is, for example, the progess that has been made in medical science. Thanks to research in that field, the average life expectancy in some lands has increased from under 50 years at the beginning of the 20th century to well over 70 years today! Think, too, of the ways in which we have benefited from... all of which have improved life for millions.

  Got caught throwing magazines in the trash

  i had to take my dad to the va hospital for a doctor's appointment and in almost every waiting room there was magazines not even recent issues.

  you have to wait for freaking ever at the va hospital so i decided to do my civic duty and i went around this huge hospital collecting magazines and would throw them in the nearest trash can.

  nobody cared until i got on the 4th floor.

  my friend just told me her mom came home the other day and told her you are not supposed say the word pagan.

  but she did not tell her why but instead gave her the wt article to read.

  Let's not forget, though, that Sandy is only supposing - the way I hear it - that there is an article out there in which the WT says so and so.

  It's funny when someone raise a mere possibility and the follow up comments speak of it as a reality.

  It'd be nice to see the wording in said article.
