Interesting conversation with a well known Elder in Brooklyn

on my way home last night from work i ran into a prominent elder from brooklyn.

this guy is always featured at circuit assemblies and his family was presented as the model witiness family in the 80's.

well imagine my shock and surprise when i realized that this dub had just bought a lottery ticket.

i just came across this link advertising an award dinner by the canadian bar association.. http://www.cba.org/cba/news/2004_releases/2004-08-17_probono.asp.

it announces shane brady of georgetown (bethelite) as the winner of the probone award for 2004. i'll let the announcement speak for itself.. .

what burns me is that the brady is on a vow of poverty, and gets his marching orders from bethel.

If God loves "all people", I can't understand how he can "choose" to draw only a few to his son.

Trespassing, new rules

as the temporary book study overseer i have been handed a letter as follows:.

upon receipt of this letter, book study overseers should review the following points with those in their groups:.

* individual homeowners have a right to exclude people from their property by posting a "no trespassing" sign.. * if publishers call on a home or enter the grounds around a home where a "no trespassing" sign is located, they may be subject to criminal prosecution and resulting monetary sanctions and/or incarceration.

Letter From Society Say Going To a JW/Non-JW Wedding Has Consequences!

my mother called me in a tizzy saying that her friend heard that letters were read and a talk was given in 2 different congregations saying that the society's new policy is that if a elder, m.s.

or pioneer attends an "unequaled" wedding----they will be removed from their exemplary positions because they are "disloyal to jehovah god"........what do you think about this one?

Many elders and MS's have unbelieving family members no in the society, and they have to appear as normal as possible to 'win them over'. I highly doubt that the society actually did this drastic step.

I think that Shamus misunderstood what Minimus said. Minimus said that if an elder, ms or pioneer attends a wedding AND this is an "unequaled" one, he would be removed. I understand "unequaled" as being a wedding between a JW and a non-JW.

Attending just about any wedding will not bear that consequence, as I understand it.

So, what's so drastic about the new (?) Society policy? This is totally in line with their host of written and unwritten rules.

Is it the preaching, that makes JW's believe they have the truth?

do you think it is the fact that jehovahs witness do a very obivious preaching campian, that convinces them that it is the true religion.when all the doubts you can think off have been raised they seem to just say "well we are the only ones that do the preaching work".

without the preaching work would it be harder for people to cling on to the religion, what else could they fall back on to convince themselves,it would be very difficult.

I think it's one of the things. One can see this by the fact that, when in doubt, some dubs even go a little further by pioneering. My sister is doing precisely that... Observador.

they called last night when they arrived in town (nos wish you had been there) and we arranged to meet this morning and then decide what to do.. so i have been with the two of them all day and it has been great.

like meeting someone i've known for a long long time.
