In Brazil, the turnout is 99% !!!!!
Voting is mandatory.
Would anyone know if in Iraq is like that too?
the voter turnout for the 2004 us presidential election was 60.7% (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/a10492-2005jan14.html).
despite being threatened by terrorists, iraq's voter turnout was much greater than the last us voter turnout!
i'd say it was a far greater success than expected!

didn't you hear me?
there's a monster at the end of this post!
Please, how can i put *jpegs at the posts?
Kaique, first you have to have the picture hosted somewhere in the web; then, when you reply, you can use the "picture link" button located on the toolbar of the reply window (it's the third from the end); then, you just paste the link where your pic is located. Just remember that some features of the software of this board is only available for IE, and the toolbar might be one of them. Observador.
let me tell you my story of how i started attending meetings.
i started going to meetings at the age of sixteen?why?
because i was a broken youth at that time.
A long-time prostitute also thanks New York police from the bottom of her heart for having falsely charged and arrested her.
Why? Now she's a millionaire!
Years after her going to prison she was able to prove that it was all a fabrication; sued the New York government and settled for an unknown amount of money out of court.
In a hour-program about her on the Discovery Channel she said that, if it wasn't for the false police charges, she would be dead a long long time ago, so messed up her life was.

..."The antelope and you...and why you should be like Antelopes who don't abuse themselves..." now there's an article for ya.
Fleur, you crack me up!
Now, these news, if true, will be a big deal even though some Witnesses will rationalize away somehow.
As for the poster who said that it is a great feat for an institution to be around after 130 years... well, I say look at some major institutions that had to make big changes to survive. Look at Ford, IBM and others. Ford is simply the inventor of car, but now they face stiff competition even from Korea. The world has definitely changed and the WT big boys know this.
Also, the WT has in many instances appealed to reason to shore up their dogmas; before this Information Age it was very difficult to counter their flawed reasoning, but now with access to information readily available things have changed as never before.

with the jw congregations about to be informed that the ubiquitous awake!
magazine is to be issued just once a month from january 2006, now is an apt time for interested parties to share brief memories and/or impressions about the bi-monthly awake!
magazines, whether poignant, hard-hitting or humorous.
Some have wondered about the reasons the WT will give to this...
although I did enjoy light reading of that nature - it just never went deep enough to really stimulate my mind...
JWs - not WT - will put a spin along the same line as above. They may say "oh no, this has nothing to do with religion really; Awake! is just a magazine on generalities".
Some JW - and even the WT, I bet - may say "we are just combining the content of 2 issues of Awake! in one for more effective distribution... Jehovah's organization is always a forward-thinking, fast paced organization".
Hey, Governing Nobody, you have a few ideas here!

for going to my kid's wedding.
he was told he was not "serious", had no "self-control" and "did not work well with the body".
I hope he does not take it all to heart; this could be DEVASTATING to him if he takes it all seriously.
I hope he does take it all seriously and comes to the realization of what this religion really is.

not a new light, just a positive light.. sometimes on here i worry that all jws are painted with a bad brush when i know that not to be the case.
today i was looking after a jw patient on the ward and she was the most wonderful old girl you could meet, she really made me smile, and she was bright as a button.
later her family came in, who i didn't recognise and they were just as pleasent.
I realise that you have received much feedback from others over the past day and would understand it if you felt perhaps beleagered by it all. However, do hang on in here.
Steve, Scoob is a long-time member of this board and people here have always tried to show him the realities of the JW mindset, but he has very often shown a confused thinking and fuzzed logic. Sometimes he jokes and we think he's serious; sometimes he's serious and we think he's joking. These are the things that make him look like an idiot.
But, Scoob, come on! Let's be serious this time, ok?
You are an outcast of the JW religion (religion?); as you know, a religion is made up of people. People on this board have shown you far more comprehension and understanding than you ever had in the religion we were once part of; how can you try to equate the way people here treat others with the way JWs do? Remember this, Scoob: the reason why you came out clean and told people here about your personal life was exactly because you knew you would be understood and supported, and you were! Would you do the same in the JW circles with no consequences?
Sometimes is hard to understand whether you're plain silly or just want to tease people here... and they're getting tired of this!
Quick, quick, Scoob, call the elders and ask for a reinstatement "bible study" immediately.

i was doing some research for a novel i'm writing, and came across this article.
while i pride myself on being open minded, this one is just a bit over the edge without proof.. http://www.reptilianagenda.com/exp/e122299a.shtml.
Oh my God, oh my.... shaking head in disbelief...
Now, the JWs will certainly come across that wonderfully crafted article and say "see how bad these apostates are? Do I have to say anything else?" and, if the one to whom he says that is a "bible student", one more victim will be made...
