tonights memorial
by bonnzo in.
a scripture was read during the talk i never thought of before, 1cor 11:26 which says:"for as often as you eat this loaf and drink this cup, you keep proclaiming the death of the lord, until he arrives.".
if he arrived in 1914, why do we still "eat this loaf and drink this cup"?

OK, Yet Another Thread About the Memorial *good grief*
by catchthis inthere are umpteen threads about the memorial already.
did anyone else ever get a weird feeling as the emblems were passed?
even when i was a hardcore dub, i always had a strange feeling in my gut.

The first time I saw this procedure of someone going up to the stage, the speaker seating back, and then this one "serving" the speaker with the emblems was really weird too. Totally agree!
But it wasn't always like that; I think the Society might have made it to be that way not long ago (?).
Very weird because, remember, the speaker is the guy who hand the things to the attendents below. I think that if he would partake, this was enough of an opportunity to do it. The way the're doing now looks like a ritual...

Jesus Christ! Is this a contradiction?
by observador inthe other day while rereading the scriptures about the last supper, i spotted something that is very interesting.. mathew 26:23 reads:"in reply he said: "he that dips his hand with me in the bowl is the one that will betray me.".
the above doesn't make much sense to me because it implies that one would have to give himself away by doing exacly what jesus said the betrayor would do.
now, look at how john words the same event in john 13:26:"therefore jesus answered: "it is that one to whom i shall give the morsel that i dip".

Paduan,
I hear what you say, but there simply are so many of these type of contradictions that it makes hard to believe that the Bible is what is purpoted to be.

Now it makes a lot more sense, humn? What John says implies Jesus' actions to identify the betrayor, not Judas'.
Contradiction plain and simple? Any opinions?

How Passive-Aggressive Behavior Defeats the Watchtower
by metatron inyears ago, there was perhaps the most pathetic jw funeral talk in the whole history of the watchtower.. an old bethel brother named adam baurlein ( sp, not sure) had died.
he had a long history of alcoholism and misbehavior.. he had been at bethel so long that bethelite sons of former bethelites would inquire "dad, did you know this really old guy.
who drinks and tells dirty jokes?".

After I left the Tower I found out that a lot of people do exactly what she did. I have a couple of JW friends (him and his fiancĂȘ) who is just putting a show on the field service. So they would go out and just pretend they're knocking on people's doors.
The fiancĂȘ still believes in some of the JW crap but BOTH don't see any point in bothering people at their houses.

Should I "picket" the JW assembly with my "apostate" friends or not?
by booker-t inevery year since i da'ed myself i have two good friends that are ex-jws that beg me to come and "picket'' the jw assemblies with them.
i have turn them down every year but i kind of think i want to do it because my reasoning is that if i picket i will finally be telling jw's and the wts that i am not afraid of them.
i didn't realize how much "fear" the wts puts into its members until the other day when i ran into my jw sister at the supermarket and she literally left her 1/2 full shopping cart and ran out of the store without speaking to me.

"I don't think picketing assemblies helps JWs to see the Tower for what it is. On the other hand, it usually gets some media attention, which shows others there are problems in paradise."
You said precisely what I was about to say. As we know, the media works pretty much like this: it doesn't matter how many hours a "brother" spend putting a good spin on things to a reporter; if there is a group outside with placards and all, the reporter will make sure those pictures will be shown on the evening news.
Troubles in paradise indeed! I love it. :)
I would do it.

NEW BOOK EXCERPT..WORTH NOTING.
by integ inas you've heard, the new book "organized to do jehovahs will" was released today.
here is an excerpt that i trust you will "appreciate", in regards to getting involved with the "world".. ' ..a christian might renounce his faith by his actions, such as by becoming part of a secular organization that has objectives contrary to the bible, and hence, is under judgement by jehovah god.
(isa, 2:4) if a person chooses to join those who are disapproved by god, a brief announcement is made to the congregation, stating: "[ name of person] is no longer one of jehovahs' witnesses.

"integ, actually the WTS considers that the person has disassociated themselves by joining a church or joining the military which is why no JC is held. The same would be true if a person accepted a blood transfusion (since 2000) that rather than being DF'd, they would be viewed as having disassociated themselves."
You're right, Blondie. But, his point is a good one, because WHO is to make the decision that a person has crossed their lines? If an elder understands it that way, would that be enough to warrant such an announcement? If case there are more than one elder who understands it that way, how many should there be? In case they meet, wouldn't that be a JC? Will the person be advised of the announcement before hand?
A lot of questions still to be answered...
