The universe is pregnant with unimaginable wonder. To think that this happened out of the atheist's non-intelligent nothingness and barrenness seems quite foolish. To think that it came from the theist's deity spoken of and described in the Bible -- is even more foolish. James - I love this... can I use it?

Does God Exist?
by Tashawaa ini came across this on a different board.
i haven't taken the time yet to read it, but its being "heralded" by a christian as a debate in which a christian minister won via logic over a minister-turned-athiest on the topic "does god exist".
i'm curious how sound the arguments are, and with some of the sharp minds around here, if an argument is faulty, i'm counting on it being discussed.. http://www.theologyonline.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=cbb686d85bd2e5fa727074241ddc0181&threadid=7709.

LOL
I started in, and I may still force myself to read it, but within the 2nd post of the debate... the Minister (For God) is alreading using a "black & white" mentality. Also, the basis (ugh, foundation) is the God of the Bible - what about the God of the Koran... why not use Allah?????
Ugh, and they aren't even dealing with how a Designer of such magnitude even exists, thats just a "granted".
Blah I should have looked closer before I linked it. I'll try reading it further...

Why does God create abominations?
by CPiolo inmany religious folks, including fundamentalists, moderates and liberals, from a multitude of faiths, including jehovah?s witnesses, claim that homosexuals, bisexuals and trans-gendered individuals are abominations in the eyes of god.
they believe these people are sinners of the worst sort, that their behavior is a perversion, is evil, dangerous and a threat to society, the family and/or ?family values.?
these poor souls are going to be punished in some way by god for their choices and behavior ?

I remember, as a good dubbie, watching an animal show (Discovery Channel???) and it showed "homosexual" animals. Now, this totally caught me off guard. There were these two males ducks, with one female. One of the males mated with both the male & female duck, and the female only the one male, and the other male duck only mated with the male duck... but they all lived happily together (did I lose you). Plus it showed it in the other species, and there was no "reason"... eg. being in heat and no females around. There were females of the species, but some were still showing a preference to the same sex. The ducks stuck in my head.
I reported this show to my mom, and that was the classic response I got. The animals became imperfect when man sinned. I mean, that explains EVERYTHING. Why they now eat meat, why God could in good conscience destroy them in the flood, why female spiders will eat the male once they mate, and why some are "abominations".
I miss the days when the answers were so straight forward and simple. No thinking involved.

Phantom beat me with the whole "imperfection" thing - and said it sooo well. I might add that you can't observe homosexual animal behavior, because since the fall of Adam & Eve, the animals have been imperfect too

The failure of the elders to report this to the authorities stuns me.
If this had been reversed.... a "worldly man" who had preyed upon an eight year old girl whose parents were active Witnesses, I wonder then if they would have told the police/social system and the parents. If the eight year old told them, would the fact that the state doesn't require reporting come into play?

I need some suggestions about ...
by codeblue inhow to handle this situation: as of june i have stopped going to the meetings.
i do have one sister that tells me i should keep on my schedule of meetings....she currently thinks i am not going to the meetings because i am new here and my husband works out of town a lot and i already remarked that i didn't want to go without him.
i have also told her i have been going thru a depression, with this move, major move #13 and being new here.. well, today, she dropped of 2 watchtowers for this sunday.

Codeblue,
You're fortunate that you're new to this area and congregation, even if you were more regular at meeting attendance before June. They don't know you well, or your history, and given enough time they'll just chalk you up to being "weak". This one zealous sister will cool-her-heals... she's new and wants to encourage you. To fade you can't say out loud what your head is screaming at the time "LEAVE ME ALONE I WANT OUT!!!!"
Your family will also most like draw conclusions that you've weakened since the move - think to others in past congregations,(when you were active) that moved in and you rarely saw.... or friends that moved away and you heard via "the grapevine" that they weren't doing so well in the troof anymore.
Now you know why
