The Forsyth County church sustained minor damage Oct. 17 after someone poured flammable liquid in the entranceway and part of the sanctuary. The accelerant burned the carpet but did not spread beyond where it had been poured.Authorities think the flame-retardant carpeting may have saved the church.
At one time I would have believed that "Jehovah's spirit" protected the Hall... "flame-retardant" carpeting would have had nothing to do with it!
The only thing missing from the article is ad-nauseum of quotes from scientists who believe the "Theory of Gravity" taken out of context to "prove" that there are huge gaps, errors, etc. in the Theory that they hold as fact.

i just got an email from someone who played a really formative part of my life who's since left the lds church (my rose tinted spectacles) and it really hurts.
this is why i don't go to ex-lds sites.
its wierd - a lot of you as posters are at the other end of the tunnel - having left/escaped - but it sure as heck feels gut wrenching when your still 'in' and someone you care about leaves.

BUT, I need to say this... you come to an x-jw site (mostly) for the above reasons, YET you said that you won't look at any x-mormon sites?!?!?! You prefer your religion's "pre written text". Why don't you lurk at some of your x-LDS sites and get the "no agenda's or party lines" from those in-the-know of your religion?!??!?
Frankly, my impression of you is that of a cultist "peeking" in on the x-cultists of another cult. First time I looked at an x-jw site (and I was an active, loyal jw) I got all nervous, stomach in a knot, scared... but at least I had the guts to check out my own religion's x's.
Maybe, who knows this might be one of your first baby steps in critically analyzing your own religion.

Don't just rely on the site to meet someone though - mix it up. Get out with your friends, join classes, try some online chatting (but dump them if they don't want to meet you after 3 emails...they're yanking your chain), let some of your close friends know to keep their eye open for you... and then before you know it, you'll meet someone you backed your car into!

I've just signed on also to an online site.
There was already some great advice, and I would recommend meeting the person that you have an interest in right away. Online service is a way to meet people you might not otherwise meet - but you need to get to know them in person. I'd say after 2 or 3 short conversations, suggest a time and place to meet for coffee or a beer. After all you want to get to know a "person" not an online "persona".
BTW, there are quality people online. Good looking, fun, professionals. Have fun!

The contradiction with the Law (also re: the bastard issue -- and I don't mean Gumby ) simply does not exist, because the Law as we know it didn't exist when the story was created.
I'm not a scholar or the scholar BUT, one of the reasons I raised this issue, was because to someone with a JW background, Judges was written when the nation was under the Mosaic Law.
For me, I don't believe the bible stories as real historic accounts, and I don't get into the real issues of when & who wrote it - although, I'm learning more from yours and Leo's postings.

On the other hand, the narrative as a whole mentions the mourning of Jephthah's daughter's continued virginity and not her death, and the "vow" of v. 39 is consistent with Leviticus 27:21, 28 regarding the handing over of people to Yahweh to become servants of the priests and the very similar vow of Hannah in 1 Samuel 1-2 which involved consecration of her son to Yahweh.
OK, but, how about the point I raised a couple of posts ago. According to the Mosiac Law, a bastard and his offspring to the tenth generation couldn't be apart of the assembly of Jehovah. SO, how would Jephthah's daughter be acceptable to be a priest's servant at the temple?????
