Oh, I see. Then why don't JWs also do all the other things the churches do? Like celebrate holidays, support the government, support military actions, donate blood, operate charities, etc, etc, etc??

It's a typical JW response- condemn everyone else until what they are doing suits WT needs.....then the same conduct is magically transformed into a positive.

.. i would like to know what you active jw elders are going to do about this??!!...

Teary: All of these goofballs shouting "theft!" and "illegal use of already committed funds!" don't seem to understand the concept of the same group of people who made the donations in the first place voting as a group to change the allocation of those funds.

The people here on JWN you label as "goofballs" are a pretty sharp group...and have predicted many things about WT that at one time were scoffed at by persons such as yourself as "goofball" ideas...only to be proved as dead-on accurate.

.

What you "don't seem to understand" is the fact that JWs are the same group that will vote to donate funds for a new assembly hall, pay for that assembly hall in full, then when they begin using said assembly hall and are handed a daily "rent" bill of $8-$10,000 to use the building they just paid for, don't even ask why. They just get out their checkbooks and pay whatever they are told to pay.

As Apog said, when do JWs ever question, or even give much thought to what the elders or WT demand of them? What world do you live in?

Let's not forget that up until a few years ago, WT also charged interest on loans.

Think about the absurdity of that ! JWs donate money to WT, WT converts that money into a loan back to the congregation, then JWs pay interest on their own money in order to repay a loan they themselves provided the money for in the first place.

Teary Oberon: People also seem to be forgetting that, on the positive side, many congregations will actually get financial relief due to the new arrangements, thanks to Watchtower taking on loan payments and major repair and renovation costs themselves.

Read the letter, TO. Congregations are still obligated to pay ("donate") the same amount as their loan payments...or MORE! Unlike a loan, which has an ending date when it's paid off, the donation arrangement is, in essence, a permanent loan which never goes away.

Incidentally, WT does not 'take on loan payments'. Loans are made to congregations with money that Publishers themselves donated, then donations from the same Publishers re-pay the loans that they themselves funded in the first place. None of it is WT's money.

Note Perry's warmhearted response to the current situation of starving children and god's lack of doing anything about it:

This answer does a few things for the Christian Fundamentalist :

1. he doesn't have to answer why his god does nothing

2. starving to death now?? get over it!! Remember, you're just vapor (BTW,Perry, excruciating pain to a person starving to death doesn't feel like "vapor")

3. Why do anything about suffering now? It'll all be magically fixed in the 'next life'.

4. He can easily get on with his day and not think about fellow humans that are experiencing unimaginable suffering.

While Perry pokes fun at WT, he fails to realize his beliefs are just as untenable....and just as silly from the perspective of someone who believes something else.

Incidentally, the REAL instructions Re; expectations for the "donation" arrangement, are found on the pages that are NOT to be read to the congregations. WT was very specific that these pages are to be kept secret, for the elders only. That's why when ones like Old Hippie ask about it, they are not going to get a straight answer.

• What should be done if congregation funds are not sufficient to cover resolved donations?

If sufficient funds are not available for all resolved donations in a particular month, additional funds should not be solicited. The elders should determine what amounts from the congregation funds that are available at the end of the month will be applied toward the resolved monthly donation(s) and whether the shortfall should be made up in future months. However, it would be appropriate for the elders to remind the congregation of the resolved monthly commitments. If the congregation can no longer contribute the amount(s) they resolved on a regular basis, the elders may consider the situation at the next annual review of the resolution for Kingdom Hall and Assembly Hall construction worldwide.
