Atlanta Int Convention 2014:The Big Party. Does this look like WT believes Armageddon is coming "soon"?
by AndDontCallMeShirley inhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=potrr2qxhue.
.. if armageddon is "imminent", why is wt focused on sight-seeing, entertainment, travel, etc.
instead of preaching and saving people??.

Magnum: And think again about those houses they showed. Did they really give a lot of thought to the kinds of houses they'd show? They must have. Why would they show those expensive houses?
Your observations are spot-on. Historically, WT has always portrayed a nice home and fine material possessions in a negative light. Any JW who desires these things, and, worse, actually owns them, has been marginalized as "spiritually weak", "materialistic", and "not putting Kingdom interests first".
For WT to produce a video that not only strongly emphasizes the entertainment aspects of an International Convention (haven't JWs always been told conventions are for spiritual interests, NOT entertainment?), and showcasing luxury homes, is highly hypocritical. Of course WT knew what it was doing! What do you think the reaction of would-be attendees needing a home to stay in would be if WT showed an average home in an average neighborhood, you know, the kind of home 99% of JWs live in? WT wants JWs to appear to be financially successful, progressive, modern- you know, "worldly"- just like every other religion. WT and JWs wouldn't attract any interest for these conventions if WT showed the broken down cars and average/below average homes most JWs live in.
The entire video is corporate spin, nothing more, and is diametrically opposed to what WT has traditionally claimed is of the most importance in life and especially "Kingdom interests".

Heads Up: If you are an older JW, WT has no further use for you!
by AndDontCallMeShirley inwt is retiring district overseers, has sent older jws serving at bethel packing despite years of faithful service, and as of june 1, 2014, has announced that any elder that has reached 80 years of age is no longer valued or wanted as a cobe.
in wt land it would appear that older people have little or no value, and wt sees no reason to use them in any meaningful capacity.
i wonder how this makes older ones feel after devoting their lives to wt's interests while shelving their own hopes and dreams?.

In light of Watchtower's recent corporate policy changes in regard to older JWs, especially men, I thought it would be interesting to see what people have accomplished in life in their later years. Here are a few examples I've found:
achievements at an advanced age
Many well-known people made major accomplishments in old age. The following is a list of such examples.
1. At 100, Grandma Moses was painting.
2. At 94, Bertrand Russell was active in international peace drives.
3. At 93, George Bernard Shaw wrote the play Farfetched Fables.
4. At 91, Eamon de Valera served as president of Ireland.
5. At 91, Adolph Zukon was chairman of Paramount Pictures.
6. At 90, Pablo Picasso was producing drawings and engravings.
7. At 89, Mary Baker Eddy was directing the Christian Science Church.
8. At 89, Arthur Rubinstein gave one of his greatest recitals in New York's Carnegie Hall.
9. At 89, Albert Schweitzer headed a hospital in Africa.
10. At 88, Pablo Casals was giving cello concerts.
11. At 88, Michaelangelo did architectural plans for the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli.
12. At 88, Konrad Adenauer was chancellor of Germany.
13. At 85, Coco Chanel was the head of a fashion design firm.
14. At 84, Somerset Maugham wrote Points of View.
15. At 83, Aleksandr Kerensky wrote Russia and History's Turning Point.
16. At 82, Winston Churchill wrote a History of English Speaking People.
17. At 82, Leo Tolstoy wrote I Cannot Be Silent.
18. At 81, Benjamin Franklin effected the compromise that led to the adoption of the U.S. Constitution.
19. At 81, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe finished Faust.
20. At 80, George Bums won an Academy Award for his performance in The Sunshine Boys.http://www.medrounds.org/encyclopedia-of-aging/2005/12/achievements-at-advanced-age-action.html
75 yrs old- Warren Buffett set up a $30 billion contribution to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for use in various world-wide charitable causes. + Cancer survivor Barbara Hillary became one of the oldest people, and the first black woman, to reach the north pole.
80 yrs old – Jessica Tandy became the oldest Oscar recipient for her work in Driving Miss Daisy.
85 yrs old- At 85, "Coco" Chanel was the head of a fashion design firm.
90 yrs old- Pablo Picasso was still producing drawings and engravings.
95 yrs old- Nola Ochs became the oldest person to receive a college diploma, a degree in general studies with an emphasis on history.
100+ yrs old - Alice Porlock of Great Britain published her first book, Portrait of My Victorian Youth, when she was 102 years old.

Big Time Hypocrite
by Iamallcool inmy dad told me this story long time ago.
there was an long time elder that is never married.
he got caught going to brothel one day after a brother followed him there.

steve 2: You badly need spellcheck. What's wrong with going to Bethel? And why was he followed there? I thought it was every decent Witnesses desire to do so. Have I missed something?
.
I agree, I see no problem here. If a brother wants to go to Bethel for BJ, what's the issue? BJ means "Big Jehovah", right?

the JW 1914/WWI connection doesn't make sense
by Magnum injws always touted wwis beginning in 1914 as evidence that the kingdom was born in heaven in that year.
i was told that since satan was cast out of heaven, he started stirring up trouble on earth - like wwi.
but theres one problem with that wwi started some months before oct 1914 (the month when the kingdom was supposedly born).. i asked jws about that in the mid 1980s, and i was told that satan started wwi before oct 1914 to divert attention away from the birth of the kingdom.

World leaders knew a major war would erupt, it was a matter of 'when', not 'if'. WT claims that it, and it alone, was in the know about what would occur in 1914, but the simple fact of the matter is, the situation was developing for decades prior to that year. Regardless, CT Russell and WT predicted, not a world war, but Armageddon would occur in 1914, and the full establishment of God's Kingdom. So, it doesn't matter how WT revises its history now, the evidence shows WT's 'prophecy' in regard to 1914 was a 100% failure. Note these comments by Bismarck in the years leading up to 1914:
"Europe today is a powder keg and the leaders are like men smoking in an arsenal ... A single spark will set off an explosion that will consume us all ... I cannot tell you when that explosion will occur, but I can tell you where ... Some damned foolish thing in the Balkans will set it off."
----- Otto von Bismarck, said during the Congress of Berlin in 1878.
.
Last warning and prediction
In December 1897, Wilhelm II visited Bismarck for the last time. Bismarck again warned the Kaiser about the dangers of improvising government policy based on the intrigues of courtiers and militarists. Bismarck's last warning was:
Your Majesty, so long as you have this present officer corps, you can do as you please. But when this is no longer the case, it will be very different for you.
Subsequently, Bismarck made this prediction:
"Jena came twenty years after the death of Frederick The Great; the crash will come twenty years after my departure if things go on like this" ― a prophecy fulfilled a little late when, twenty four years after his resignation as Chancellor, World War 1 began in August 1914.

Any person without some predisposed negative attitude on the JDubs would think this video was great.

experience makes all the difference, doesn't it? From the outside, Jim Jones looked like a great guy too....right up to the point he served KoolAid for lunch.
