i get tired of using the argument of "the mystery of evil" to attack god but where are we when we see heroic acts of godly courage from great humans like dr. kent bradly and dr. nancy writebols wonderful works of love?

did you listen to dr. kent bradley's concern and loving compassion for west africa?

he's not angry superstitious mobs destroyed several make-shift medical facilities to treat victims of ebola, no, dr. bradly implored the world to "help save west africa".

Strawman argument, millie. The OP is a religious person who plainly stated his belief. How is it that I am a "spokeman" for religious people when I'm merely discussing the point a religious person presented? Unless you are arguing Bill is the only religious person in the world that has this particular view. In that case, the worst you could accuse me of is being a spokesman for BucketShopBill.

Actually, if you read my comments as you claim, you'd realize that you and I are in total agreement, so 'refuting' me with comments like this one is silly:

For a lack of something to prove anything - you would first have to first establish that the "thing" (miracles, healing, whatever) had validity.

You're so focused on arguing with me you fail to realize you are validating the very points I made earlier in the discussion.

1- pray to god (whomever you may imagine him to be) asking for understanding.

2- study the background about the bible (from non-religious sources) to see where it came from.

3- discard (or at least set aside) chuyrch claims and dogma.. 4- read it, looking up archaeological/historical sources about the places and peoples referred to.

So if god gives understanding, as you claim, and all a person has to do is ask, why did you list points 2-6?

Wouldn't study and research indicate a lack of faith in the god you just prayed to?

James 1: 5- If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

So how do explain the same confusion now among the religious that has existed for millenia? Your god must suck at answering prayers...

I was wondering why you were accusing them of intellectual dishonesty by saying the same thing in clearer phrasing. That's the whole point of the new revision.

WT has always claimed the NWT was the ultimate Bible translation on the planet- the most accurate, blah, blah, blah (after all, didn't Jehovah guide the GB through the whole "translation" process?)

A revision seems absurdly contradictory if the claims were even remotely true.

I'm with sparky...I guess I missed the joke too.

Read what I actually said. My comments are based on what religious people claim. I didn't say it had to make any sense.

Something good happens: god did it

Something bad happens: Satan did it (or bad luck...whatever).

BTW, religious people do think they are the center of the universe. Everytime they pray for something they expect god to bend the laws of nature just for them...because they are so special.

This is no different than the claims WT has made about Hitler's Nazi Germany.

WT claims that JWs were told they could not read the Bible or worship Jehovah, so they stood firm for "true worship" by choosing to go to concentration camps and/or be executed in order to not compromise their Christian faith.

WT's claim is patently false.

In the form a JW could sign to gain their freedom, no mention is made saying, or implying, that a JW could not read the Bible or worship god. The Nazis required a JW to disassociate themselves from the Watchtower Society only and the JW agreed to not promote WT teachings.

Apog: Not sure I see the problem here.

What does WT drum into every JW as to being present for the entire meeting or assembly program? Do not miss the song and prayer because these two components are a vital part of our worship.

Yet, in Mexico, WT was willing to dispense of these vital components and went a step further by also doing away with the Bible itself !!

This isn't a problem?

What would happen to an individual JW who on his own refused to sing songs at the KH, refused to participate in prayers and refused to use the Bible?

Most certainly they'd be disfellowshipped under some charge of "brazen conduct" or disrupting the peace of the cong. But in true hypocritical WT fashion, when the GB decides unilaterally to dispense of its own self-claimed "vital" aspects of worship for no other reason than to protect its corporate/financial interests, suddenly the heretical becomes acceptable.

How then did the 'scholars' that translated this new NEW WORLD TRANSLATION (2013 edition) make the intellectual jump of converting the word JEALOUS into the phrase 'REQUIRING EXCLUSIVE DEVOTION'?

1. WT does not have, and never has had, any scholars in its ranks.

2. Intellect has little to do with anything WT does.

3. "intellectual dishonesty". Bingo! You've hit upon WT's bread and butter.

Ironically, if the Christian god was actually doing what Christians claim he's doing ( a loving father who's helping his children), these doctors wouldn't be necessary, would they?

I get tired of anything good being attributed to god by the religious while all evil is conveniently shelved under the nauseatingly generic "bad things just happen, why blame god?" category...

i know some of you are in the field and many others are hobbyists and enthusiasts.. aside from a tablet/smart phone os, what were they thinking?.

i don't know a single desktop user (e.g.

architects, engineers running autocad, solid works, etc.
