i cannot wrap my mind around the fact that there is jw tv.
being a born in and living most of my life hearing how tv evangelism is wrong and lazy preaching yet seeing this unfold solidifies this religion as a cult!.
i remember back when i began my fade a few years ago i told my brother during an argument how this religion is just like any other religion in that its bull.

It's only wrong when other religions do it.
Just put it on the same long list as all the other things WT has condemned other religions for doing...only to see WT eventually do it themselves.
The 11/15/86 WT quoted earlier sums up why the GB are now using television:

so two big changes in the org were announced in the most recent agm.. local needs part is replaced by "how do you know the truth" where all members will tell their experience (oh what fun).
basic pioneer role 10 only hours a month required (see, jehovah lightens our load, therefore he loves only us)!.
it seems like they have really turned up the heat here.
The announcement was a new class of pioneer called a "basic pioneer" where you commit to 10 hours a month.
What's next for 2015? Inactive or irregular Publishers will be "Auxilliary Pioneers"?

WT has always been like other religions...they were just very good at hiding it by drawing attention away from themselves by pointing fingers at everyone else.
Now that the Internet has exposed WT for what it truly is, they have nothing to lose. JWs will not see the hypocrisy, but instead will lap these changes up as "progressive" moves of God's Organization..."proof" that it is the true religion, even though it is now doing exactly what it has always condemned other religions for doing.

this topic is a couple years late, but i just wanted to get this off my chest.
i don't understand why people say that the society starting a project that won't finish until 2017 means that the end can't come until then, or that they don't expect the end before then.
this isn't a very logical line of thought.
Why couldn't the HQ simply be finished on the other side of Armageddon, and serve as an HQ for the earthly government in the new system?
By the same logic, why don't JWs argue that the project could just as well be started after Armageddon, when the land, supplies, etc. will be "free".
If the Big A is as close as the GB pretends it is, wouldn't all the time and money being spent on a new HQ be better spent saving lives?
okay, russell based his measurements of the pyramid chambers using inches to determine 1914.. however, what if we used egyptian measurements?.

Regardless of what actual measuement Russell used it's irrelevant. He came up with different measurements at varous times then fudged his own numbers when things didn't turn out as he falsely prophesied.
Rutherfraud sunbsequently condemned the pyramids as "Satan's stone witness" after Russell declared them "God's witness in stone" prior to the 1914 failed prophecies.
And, as punkie eluded to, the Egyptians used a 360 day lunar calendar, Russell used a 365 day solar (Gregorian) calendar. You can't draw a straight line from 607-1914 no matter what system of measurement you use.
here are a few of my wishful thoughts that, if came true, would make me enjoy my religion even more:.
no more end of month time reporting.. delete one of the 1-day circuit assemblies.
may replace with a 'special meeting', such as the one we had last year.. eliminate friday from the big convention.. no more international conventions!
The second school is just redundant, busy work for all, really.
Doesn't this describe virtually all WT-mandated activities for JWs?
Besides, WT doesn't really do away with any activity. Remember when the Book Study night was eliminated? Did WT tell JWs to enjoy their night off? No. That evening now became "Family Worship Night", and in a very real sense, became much more cumbersome and time-consuming than the book study. In fact, WT made it a point immediately that FWN was to be used for what was essentially just another meeting.

Reform expulsion policy. May announce somebody's no longer being a JW, but just take away privileges. Do not shun; only limited association with person.
So a slow death instead of a quick one? Yeah, what a positive change that would be.
Why should WT decide for anyone who they may or may not associate with?
