  I'm not sure which is more important... the 1914 doctrine or the 144,000 doctrine. Take away 1914, a bunch of JWs leave, but a bunch more will stay. Changing the 144,000 doctrine, however, becomes a lot more personal

  Take away 1914 and we're no longer in the last days (this "generation"), Jesus isn't ruling, and the WT wasn't chosen as god's spokeman (1914 is critical to establishing 1918/1919 in WT timeline).

  Take away the 144,000 doctrine and most JWs don't give a damn...because they aren't going to heaven anyway. What do they care if one or 144,000 are going to heaven? 8 million JWs aren't in the club anyway so it doesn't matter.

  Of course, all this is a moot point because WT made the same exact claims and attached as much importance to the year 1874.

  We'll know for sure what is actually in this seven-minute video next week, but something tells me WT will still hang on to the date but present a nice song-and-dance that essentially minimizes it to a point of irrelevance. Why do I say this?? Do WT or JWs talk about 1874?

  Oubliette: ...is anyone else creeped out that there is even an expression "our beliefs about 1914"?

  The clear implication is that all JWs everywhere have exactly the same "beliefs" about the significance of this number.

  Actually, to me it makes perfect sense:

  "The endeavor to compel all men to think alike on all subjects, culminated in the great apostasy..." Wt Sep. 1893, p.264

  I am often staggered at the ignorance JWs have as to their own beliefs. Arguably, 1914 is the most important doctrine to JWs, yet, especially among those that have studied and been baptized in the last 10-15 years, they cannot explain it and have no desire to. Frankly, in JW Land, understanding your beliefs has little relevance and is secondary to blind obedience.

  documents and media releases relating to the shunning and discrimination of a special needs child by jehovahs witnesses in relation to the melbourne international convention, 17-19 october 2014. the following documents and press release were received by jw leaks in relation to the jehovahs witnesses international convention at etihad stadium, melbourne, australia.

  it is understood that due to last minute information in relation to the administration and control of the first aid health services at the convention the following press documents had not been released to the media.. prior to publishing and releasing the following sensitive information, the members of the team at jw leaks made formal inquiries with the victorian workcover authority (vwa) and the administrators of etihad stadium (melbourne stadiums limited) as to whether measures have been put in place to prevent the jehovahs witnesses and watchtower bible and tract society of australia from operating any first aid health services and first aid department in alleged breach of applicable health and safety laws.. we were assured that the jehovahs witnesses will no longer have control of the first aid management at the event but that st john ambulance first aid officers will be on site for each of the three days.

  it is our understanding that this was done for the purpose of protecting the health and safety of all 70,000 daily patrons and delegates attending the convention.

  received "thy kingdom come" in the mail today.. (i had told my wife about russell using pyramid measurements to come up with 1914. she essentially called me a liar, so i bought the book on ebay).

  "a few year's (sic) after prof. smyth's return, came the suggestion that the great pyramid is jehovah's "witness."".

  Magnum: I still can't believe there are so many JWs who know so little about the history of JWdom

  It's precisely this ignorance, along with a morbid fear of investigating what is in their own literature, that keeps JWs completely (and voluntarily) in darkness.

  Researching WT literature was singularly the greatest factor in waking me up to what this religion (cult) is all about and my immediate exit.

  many comments, much speculation and alot of negative feedback on the quality, etc.

  well, what has me concerned is that i have not heard a peep from any of my connections left in kingdom-land.
