Will the Societies tighten their grip even more with the power slipping?
by thedepressedsoul ini think its pretty clear that the gb are power hungry.
you cannot listen to the branch visit and not see clear as day that there are some of them that are loving the power.
it showed the clearest with anthony morris.. now all these sex abuse scandals and news media are taking their power away.

From, "Captives Of A Concept":
on page 17 of the August 15, 1991 Watchtower it says:
In the year 1919… [the Society ] came out of Satan’s organization….
These are amazing admissions. For, according to their interpretation of Matthew 24:45-47, in 1918 Jesus was checking to make sure that the Society qualified as God’s organization, and yet he found them involved in Satan’s organization ever since he arrived in 1914!
"[Jehovah’s Witnesses] sold themselves because of wrong practices and came into bondage to the world empire of false religion [Satan’s organization…] An outstanding instance of this occurred during World War I of 1914-1918" --November 15, 1980 Watchtower, pages 26, 27.
On page 621 of the Proclaimers book it asks, “Was God particularly using Charles Taze Russell?” They then explain under what circumstances he would not have done so… "It certainly could not be expected that God would use C.T.Russell if he did not loyally adhere to God’s Word."
---------------
But WT has recently rejected CT Russell as being of the FDS class, and WT has also rejected most of what CT Russell taught as god's "truth".
So, if Russell was teaching truth, and Jesus chose Russell/WT as his spokesman, why does WT no longer adhere to Russell's teachings?

Allegedly, WT officials were imprisoned in 1918, and the work essentially shut down, because the Org. was rife with "Babylonish teachings" (WT's words, not mine). Imprisonment was Jesus' way of giving them a good spanking.
Then, WT officials were released 9 months later, supposedly because Jesus saw that they had cleaned up their act and changed their ways.
The only problem is: they changed nothing. But, Jesus decided it was acceptable anyway (that they were still practicing "Babylonish" religion), even though WT was essentially no different than any other religion at the time, and appointed them as his special representitive.
You can't make this crap up.

Reinstatement - repentance - works - Can you explain how this is supposed to work?
by berrygerry innov 15, 2006 wt.
when requesting reinstatement, he should be able to give evidence that he has repented and is producing works that befit repentance.acts 26:20.. .
how possibly can someone "give evidence" or "produce works"?.

While WT has historically condemned the Catholic Church for its practice of confessing sins and receiving absolution from priests, really, how different is the arrangement when a JW is forced to confess sin and receive 'absolution' from the elders?
If a JW confesses to god (scriptural), and god forgives a repentant person (scriptural), then the intecession of an elder is not only unscriptural but wholly without basis even within the context of WT fantasy. If a person confesses to god, begs for forgiveness and god forgives, the matter is concluded.
As sparky1 pointed out, most of the things a JW can be DF for are not scriptural but manmade WT rules, and the entire process of works performed for a year or more to "prove" your repentance definitely is without any scriptural basis whatsoever.

Are disfellowshipped persons allowed to make contributions to the world wide work?
WT never refuses money...from anyone. Ever.
Donations from a DF, "unrepentent" person spend just as sweetly as those from an uber 80-year old Pioneer's estate she previously intended to will to her children.

ColdSteel: And if I seem to "spew" the same "tired" stuff, it's because it's true.
"The theologian Meric Casaubon argued — in his 1668 book, Of Credulity and Incredulity — that witches must exist because, after all, everyone believes in them. Anything that a large number of people believe must be true."

CS: Shirl, the people living on their own land weren't just folks. They were profligate, degenerate, idolatrous and vicious
I believe the same rationale was used to decimate and eventually enslave the American Indians. History is written by the victor.
Your Stone Age mentality speaks volumes. Thankfully, humanity is progressing and leaving archaic, brutal and ignorant mindsets in the past; predictably, theists work tirelessly to keep them alive and assure that at least a good portion of humanity remains in the Dark Ages intellectually.
It's 2014, Cold Steel...respectfully, move on and grow up.

Morality is the attribute, or quality, of honesty, virtue, honor, loyalty, righteousness and steadfastness that exists in the confines of that which is given us by God
You mean the same god that ordered the genocide of people who had the audacity to live on their own land first, which genocide included the slaughter of infants, old people and animals? The same god that not only approved of slavery but codified it? The same god that was just as happy to slaughter his own people as he was in slaughtering "pagan" people?
If that's what a theist's definition of morality is, I'll stay with the human version. It's much better.
BTW- I know atheists who have all of the moral characteristics you listed above. Does your god still hate them anyway?

St. Teresa of Avila once told god, "If this is the way you treat your friends, no wonder you have so few."
.
"A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death." -Albert Einstein

steve2: religion I was raised in...one that played on and catered for people's fears'.
Without the weapons of guilt and fear, what power to influence people would religion have?
