Did they have to provide proof to the Convention Security that they were not yet one of God's people?
They were the ones without the halo above their heads or the angelic glow encompassing their bodies. Obviously non-JWs.
i was thinking about this today, after seeing another thread on the subject of serving in israel, of all places.
there have been many comments on the recent thread, and the ones a little older, about how utterly ridiculous that premise is.. the bigger question is why do i have to apply?
permission?

i was going through old email and i came across the below email from a former acquaintance of mine who is a jw.
when we were both jw's, we were both pretty liberal in our beliefs.
its quite interesting how cognitive dissonance kicks in, for many & not too much for others.
JWs prefer wishful thinking over evidence.
so, imagine that you're just a regular joe who's not familiar with the witnesses and is looking for the answers to life, the universe, and everything.
you hear a knock at your door.
before long, you are studying with a jehovah's witness.
.... it wrong for anyone to eat blood, that is, to use the blood of another creature to nourish or sustain one’s life.
The other important factor to look at is the source of WT's argument that a transfusion constitutes the "eating" of blood. W 4-15-85, p.13, quotes WT's source:
Frenchman Denys...of the 17th century!
WT cannot find a single modern authority to support its view, so it does the classic WT move of finding any source from any century, no matter the level of ignorance of that century, as validation of the legitimacy of its stance.
---
To further muddy the waters of WT's policies, think about this:
WT allows organ transplants- organs are tissue.
Guess what? Blood is also tissue!
http://www.siumed.edu/~dking2/intro/blood.htm
Blood is a highly specialized, fluid tissue. Blood is traditionally classified as a specialized form of connective tissue
during one of those meetings that took place before my jc, one of the elders, who was a good friend of mine back then and used to come up with a few outlandish personal views about some teachings, attempted to counter one of my arguments like this:.
eden - "well, if the truth doesn't change, why is it that what we teach as 'truth' has changed over the years (several examples given)?
how can we dogmatically claim at any given moment that we have 'the truth' if our teachings keep changing?".
Nothing changes in JW Land. Here's what the Proclaimers book says about the 1925 "Millions Now Living Will Never Die" campaign along with the 100% failure of all WT predicted would occur in that year:
"Though mistaken, they eagerly shared it with others." (Proclaimers, chap. 28, p.623)
Translation: as long as JWs are 'eager' about sharing falsehoods coming from god, neither He nor they have any problem with it.
89 years later JWs still subscribe to the same nonsense.
the wtbts has to know they aren't actually going to see their numbers significantly jump anytime soon/ever right?
are they planning on cutting the rbc down to 1/10th the work force so they can actually slow down their kh projects instead of increasing them?
or do they think their little website scheme is actually going to bring in more people?.
It's brilliant, actually.
Create a false need (500 KHs plus more everyday), pare the LDC down to bare-minimum numbers, all the while non-critically thinking JWs continue to donate money for KHs that will never be built.
All with zero financial transparency from WT.

I would agree that we don't have total freedom of speech as JW's and that can be really tough for someone in a situation like yours. But to be honest i'm glad we don't. We are not the faithful slave
He's comfortable living in a totalitarian religion where free speech is a bad thing. That's telling...
And they were tough enough expel any of those who can do great damage to others faith.
Ones like Ray Franz who wrote a large portion of the Aid book, and Ed Dunlap who wrote Commentary on the Letter of James. Yes, very dangerous men.
Were grasping for truth in the other areas sometimes needing brighter light as time goes on. Don't you think Jah will bless our governing body to find it as he see's fit in time
In other words, god knows WT is not teaching truth, but He sees no need to getting around to correcting it anytime soon.
We don't allow people to start sects within our organization or change things as they see fit.
Except the governing body. They can change things whenever they want to and no one can say a thing about it.
I don't have an issue preaching that to people because the people I trust tell me it current truth.
.... My personal opinion maybe Jah hasn't shown us the full truth
Maybe he has a good reason for letting us believe present truth as Jesus must have had a good reason for letting the apostles think the end would come in there day.
Again, he's completely comfortable teaching half-truths, or no-truths, to other people. So why is this acceptable for JWs but completely unacceptable when, by WT's accusation, other religions do it?
"My personal opinion maybe Jah hasn't shown us the full truth".
That statement right ther speaks volumes. Your friend just revealed he doesn't care if he actually has the truth and he believes god and Jesus are deceiving him.
I wonder if he's ever considered the absurdity of this statement:
"Jesus must have had a good reason for letting the apostles think the end would come in there [their] day."
Maybe Jesus has a good reason for lettting JWs think Armageddon is coming "soon", when it really isn't coming at all. So, if Jesus was willing to pull a fast one on his apostles, maybe he's willing to do the same to JWs.
.
Your friend proves the old saying: "There's a sucker born every minute".

"JH.Org"?
Typo? or deliberate?
great crowd jws are not baptized like the annointed are.
the great crowd's baptism does not wash them of their sins, making them sinless, until way after armageddon (1,000 year rule).
but the annointed are washed of their sins being 'sinless', as the recent wt study stated.
BTW, all sarcasm aside, my response is the typical one JWs will give you. You have, of course, poked yet another hole in WT theology.
The holes are already there... we just shine a light on them.
the 2014 revised edition of "what does the bible really teach?
" uses the text of the 2013 nwt.
i therefore assume this is the reason for the grey colour of the "bible teach" book.. examples of the adjustments appear at pages 216 and 217 of the book:.
Use of "tree of enormous height" instead of "an immense tree", to match the change at Daniel 4:10
When I read this it was like reading Daniel for the first time (w 3/14/15, study edition). Thank you WT!
"What Does the Bible Really Teach?"
I think, in reality, WT is actually asking here. They want to know.

Weren't I.D. badges a requirement for this year's IC?
No badge, no entry.
Two reasons for the applying process:
1) Control,
2) It makes Uber JWs feel more Uber by being a part of the 'special club'- you know, getting WTs stamp of approval saying the Almighty likes you enough to allow you the privilege of paying your own way to the most boring three days of your life.
