99% of everything that has ever lived is now extinct. That puts things in perspective.

so, what does this even mean for humanity?
do you think the earth is being ruined?

Evidence For Life After Death
by Space Madness ini'm not sure if i believe in life after death but i thought of something that has me leaning toward that direction.
unlike other living beings, humans have a consciousness that is separate from our brain.
two prime examples of this are addiction and dieting.

@ SM: This is not a good analogy because your left and right arms are seperate therefore they can resist each other.
.
SM, your body doesn't know it's made of "parts". For convenience we humans staple labels on everything, including body parts, but as far as yor body is concerned, it is one harmonious, cohesive unit. It would be more accurate to describe your arms as an "aspect" of your body. Ditto for the brain.

If we experience catastrophic flooding, God has broken his promise.
Do tsunamis count ??

Considering the earth is anywhere from 3.5-4.5 billion years old, the Universe 13.5 billion years old, and humans have been here for only a brief moment of that time, who's to say this weather pattern has not already repeated itself thousands or tens of thousands of times ? Human view of time is so limited, and what happens in a 50-100 year period may seem significant or eventful to us, but viewed in perspective, events like glacial melt are not only normal but irrelevant.

DD: Is it just coincidence that groups like JWs say we are near the END?? What if they are accidentally right this time?
A broken clock is also correct twice a day...so what??
Incidentally, the scr. in Revelation WT uses to "prove" humans will "ruin the earth" is a complete misapplication. "Ruining the earth" alludes to spiritual/moral ruin, not a destruction of the planet.

Does the WTB&TS - Jehovahs Witnesses truly pass for a not for profit organisation ? in America ? or anywhere else in the world for that matter ?
by smiddy injust asking .. when an organisation makes money from investments , contributions , bequeaths , real estate , etc., dealings , where does it go from a not for profit organisation to a profit organisation .....i`m confused ....where is the line of demarcation as to what is a not for profit and a profitable organisation.. smiddy.

WT is most definitely a non-prophet organization.

This new donation direction and true selfishness!
by stuckinarut2 inso we all know about this new donation arrangement.?.
every cong is supposed to send in all their savings to the society for them to allocate or use however they see fit worldwide.. but here is where true "selfishness" has become apparent!
(remember just this last weekend the wt study was all about not being "selfish" or self willed??!!).

once again I am convinced these people are deranged
by franticfran injust heard from my daughter, her husbands mother has just sent him a text to tell him his grandmother has died.
no telephone call,no visit.
his crime?

At least he got a text message. One member here reported a while back she didn't hear about her mother's death from her JW siblings until after she was already buried for two weeks! And, they didn't tell her...she heard it from a secondary source.
WT brags that the whole world watches JWs, then uses them as a model for "moral" behavior. Aside from the unbelievable absurdity and hubris of that claim, my thought is, it's great the world doesn't emulate WT ! What a terrible existence that would be.

@ OTWO: Don't be sick about it. Your local members see the same thing we see- once the money is gone, it is really gone.
JWs do a lot of chest pounding and bragging about "trusting in Jehovah", but these latest antics reveal once again the superficial, and hypocritical, nature of a JWs "faith".

Look! It was very good or: Evil in the Animal Kingdom
by TheOldHippie ini have fed a number of birds regularly thru winter, and among the species were some doves.
this spring, two of them took a liking for each other and teamed up.
for a couple of weeks, extensive construction work was jointly done and resulted in a nice little nest, undoubtedly a cosy home for the small family which expected to multiply.

According to Genesis, creation perfectly reflects the Creator. That tells us all we need to know about the self-proclaimed "god of love", and actions always speak louder than words.

"...see how we can spend all of our tens of thousands of dollars quickly in local projects BEFORE the deadline to hand all funds over to the society!!"
.
I wonder if WT is thinking the same thing? They see all this free cash sitting in cong. bank accounts, so WT makes a move on it, and spends it before some anticipated storm (pedophilia lawsuits/ new tax laws) materializes which would otherwise take that money away forever.
.
A few years ago, when the economy was really good, the city I live in collected something to the tune of several hundred million dollars in tax revenue above its budgetary needs. Sitting on this pile of money, the poiticians began arguing about what useless projects they'd squander all this new-found cash on. Some suggested saving it for a rainy day; some very delusional people made a wildly crazy suggestion: 'why not just return it to the people it belonged to in the first place- the taxpayers?!' Of course, that was quickly shot down as unreasonable.
In the case of tens of thousands of dollars sitting in a cong. account, why not just return it to the people it belonged to in the first place- Joe Average JW Publisher- instead of wasting it on useless/unnecessary projects? Or, god forbid! do some charitable works with it. Of course, doing charitable works comes too close to Christianity for WT, so that option is not on the table.
