"honest discussion" to a religious person = their view is the only one under consideration and you must buy into their delusional fantasies while ignoring all evidence to the contrary.

What Do Mormons Really Believe? RE: The Nov. 8, 1995 Awake Magazine
by D_Rolling_Kearney ini am a member of the church of jesus christ of latter-day saints, and i have written a heavily-documented response to the official magazine of the jehovah's witnesses, awake!, that claims to teach what we believe.
i saw an article from last year's watchtower about a guy who had barely been mormon for very long, and obviously did not know what we believe, who was given this magazine by jw's to show him "the truth.
" he claims to have proven to himself that it was true from information on the lds church's website.

LQ: Yes, I also checked on Seattle hotel prices at the same time I was searcing for the stadium info. The $300/night rooms were for luxury hotels in the area, and there weren't many of them. Most rooms were in the $100-$150 range. As you said, that part of the "experience" is also BS.
The fact is, that even without "Jehovah's™" help and the WTs crack team of negotiators, JWs still could've easily gotten a hotel room for $140/night.
But, of course, WT has to spin this to 'prove' how great they are and how much their god Jehovah™ does for them.

Worry Over Possible "Spying Elders"
by abbasgreta inthis seems to be a real worry for 'faders' on a number of threads.
the responses to ducati's first posting.
is a good example.

KW: I think elders are going to be more abusive and start calling disloyal ones apostates
.
It's already going that way, and WT is escalating its view that anyone, including active JWs "in good standing", who expresses anything "negative" about the Org. is to be viewed as an opposer:
day text 3-1-14
".... Let us therefore have nothing to do with apostates or anyone who claims to be a brother but who is dishonoring God. This should be the case even if he is a family member. (1 Cor. 5:11) We are not benefited by trying to refute the arguments of apostates or those who are critical of Jehovah’s organization. In fact, it is spiritually dangerous and improper to peruse their information, whether it appears in written form or it is found on the Internet.—Isa. 5:20; Matt. 7:6. w12 5/15 4:12, 13

The best thing to do is ignore them. They'll quickly lose interest.
If they press you, say that what you really need right now is money.....you'll never hear from them again.

I've had several discussions with Mormon missionaries over the years. After they insist the BM (appropriate, isn't it?) is an improvement on the Bible, and a new 'testimony' revealing Jesus and truth, I would ask them why it quotes a large percentage of the KJV verbatim and repeats the same errors the KJV made?? That would usually get the deer-in-the-headlights response. Either they didn't know that fact or they did and were embarrassed someone other than them knew it too.
.
"It is tough to discover that what you have believed in and invested your time in for so many years is a false hope and even a fraud/scam. You can spend hours and a lot of verbiage in rationalizing justification and excuses to continue the learned belief system." - Douglas A. Wallace, former Mormon

After reading the Book of Mormon, Mark Twain said, "It is chloroform in print."

Notice how the elder spins it to seem like a loving provision.
.
I believe Pol Pot, Hitler and others used the same exact reasoning when they did what they did too. Tyrants always spin their agenda as being a good thing.

DRK: "I have written a heavily-documented response"
soon followed by:
"I was not aware that this forum was exclusively ex-JW's, I just thought there were some on here"
.
Is this an example of your investigative acumen, DRK ??

Renting Husky/UW facilities (something the above account says never happens!):

Husky Stadium Capacity: 72,500 Built: 1920, Renovations: 1950, 1987, 201-12.
Husky Stadium | Seattle, Washington
Annually voted the most scenic football structure in the nation, Husky Stadium has proven to be a monstrous opponent for visitors hoping to pin a loss on Washington's gridiron heroes. With nearly 70 percent of the seats located between the end zones, Husky Stadium can be one of the loudest stadiums in the nation, with crowd noise averaging over 100 decibels. Nestled high above Union Bay on Lake Washington, Husky Stadium's seating capacity of 72,500 makes it the largest stadium, college or professional, in the Pacific Northwest and ranks it among the nation's top 15 largest on-campus facilities.
The view from Husky Stadium is unmatched, overlooking Lake Washington and offering sweeping skylines of Downtown Seattle, Mt. Rainier and the Cascade Mountains to the east and the Olympic Mountain Range to the west.
