most jehovah's witnesses are aware there once lived a man named russell and he had something to do with the early years of their religion.. but, generally, interest in the early days is almost non-existent.

after all, nobody was running around calling themselves jehovah's witnesses, so what difference does any of that really make?.

russell and the origins of jw doctrines are, as a result of this total black out of curiousity, hidden and permanently obscured.. in fact, the only time charles taze russell is discussed is because some expose' by an apostate has raised a stink.. admitedly, most anti-jw books seek to dredge up scandals, lawsuits, accusations and failed predictions swirling around russell's ministry.. in my own opinion, none of that is half as interesting as the missing part of the equation: where from did pastor russell get his truth?.

Old goat - I was just thinking about russel today actually.

I have an itch, that pops up from time to time.

He did some very good work, I thought, on some things. I thought his creation drama was amazing work.

I often wonder, how much of his stuff is accurate. I found the Proclaimer's (i think) book quite fascinating. Funnily enough, he recognised (so it says) that in the time of the end, there would be huge violent social revolutions, overthrowing the kingdom's.

As the story goes, I find it all like a novel, fascinating stuff.

Looking at the stars tonight, so bright, so many, so amazing. And we are mere ants, the ancients knew more than we give them credit for I think.

i know that a lynch mob forms whenever there's a hint of anybody being a pedophile, but the truth is that not all are the slavering, predatorial animals that they are painted to be.

each circumstance has its' own specifics.

in defense of the wts, they do keep track of confirmed pedophiles now.

Stillin - I feel for you, that you are probably still in a lot of pain from your families experience, as are many, many people here, and in my opinion, I find emotional pain the hardest to bear, and the most damaging. Bruises and bumps mend easily enough.

Are you feeling a recent resurgence of these issues, the feelings etc. Could be, and now maybe you are staring to get angry, and becoming active. Or the opposite, confusion, trying to make sense of everything. Only you know.

The pain in this rotten world. The injustice. The sheer lunacy of it all ? I get that big time.

Leaving the organisation, doesn't mean leaving God, or losing faith, I still believe in a God, every much as bit as when I was in. (confused about a lot of things too)But, now everything in life is so much better now. For me, it never would have been possible without this site and everyone here. Not easy, no. But oh, so much better.

I once read, the horrors of childhood, tend to hit home with a vengeance in a person's late 30's ish.

Former Unbaptized Publisher, New Here

former unbaptized publisher, here.. i'm new to the forums and have hesitated for months to join this forum.

i was raised in a jw family, and was never baptized, because one of my parents didn't think i should be baptized early.. my mother became inactive, but i eventually went back for social contact, eventually starting a study.

i raised a few questions, only to find that the conductor would get irritated and defensive when my questions would get deeper into the topic.

Bitter apostates

witnesses often go on about apostates being spiteful and bitter.

when you get cut off, shunned, or threatened with shunning just for the audacity of thinking differently, it's not surprising that getting angry at the witnesses is the reaction - it's like a self fulfilling prophecy.. but also, i recently posted an email from a 'friend' on this board who told me that everyone he'd spoken to about me said i had changed, become like another person.

it didn't occur to him that the day before i told my parents i'd quit the religion just 3 weeks ago, i met him for lunch, we had a good time and he didn't know anything was up.

Satan could not of been 'bound to the earth' when adam fell ..... he is spoken of in job as entering before God in the Heavenly courts.

It's all politics, money and power that drives the growth with these organisations, ruled over by charlatans and con-men.

Are you thankful to know TTAT or not?

i am so thankful that i was able to learn the truth about the truthtm (ttatt).

i owe everything in my life to having left watchtower corp: my education, my position as a college professor, being able to write and publish, travel, family life, my beautiful children, being able to be openly gay -- and happy.

unlike those closeted homosexuals in the truthtm, i do not have to be afraid to be who i am.

When did the Last Days start in the first century

i've been reading coc and rf highlights that luke 21:28 says: "but as these things start to occur, raise yourselves erect and lift your heads up, because your deliverance is getting near.".

i'm thinking on how no one who saw the start of these things is alive from 1914. as a comparison point, does anyone know when the wt suggests the last days started in the first century?.

was it when jesus said the above?.
