Another Busted Family

it seems the wt god has successfully busted up another family.. my wife informed me that one of her friends husband gave her an ultimatum; it's goona be either the jw religion or him and she chose to follow wt doctrine rather than keep her family together.

another who's so-called taken stand for the trooth.

my wife is just berating the guy for leaving his family, but in my opinion it was not he who left, but his wife.

With so little detail it is difficult to draw any kind of conclusion. Even with all the detail in the world, I wouldn't be able to decide if the husband had done all he could, or whether his situation was intolerable. I'll tell you one thing, i couldn't tolerate it if my wife brought her religion into bed and we weren't doing something because some after-hours-restaurant cleaner said so. If she was letting others have input on decisions that should be between her and me, I would feel like she walked away from the marriage. The public at large would never see that detail. This hypothetical wife would not likely see it the same way, and I certainly wouldn't go blabbing it about town. It would look to the outside like I left her.

Advice You'd Give Your 12-Year-Old Self?

this topic came up on slashdot, where some of the replies were...interesting, to say the least.. what would you guys say to yourselves, if you could send your 12-year-old self a message?.

i know that was about the age i began to read really well, and only five years later i left "the truth", so it was a crucial point in my life, as it is in the lives of many...?.

warning a sister with children that she's dating a pedophile

i met an ex je that was da'ed for telling a sister that the man she was dating was convicted in sacramento ca for child molestation about ten yearss prior.

she use to live in the same city and had cut the article out of the paper because this man was a jw.

his first wife divorced him & he went to prison.

Can you imagine the mindset of those damn elders. We've all known clowns with that attitude. Member in good standing - my ass. Yup, allowing a convicted pedophile into the house of a single mom and two girls, now that's 'paying attention to the flock.' Right about now I would love to have a conversation with some moron elder on this topic. I would walk him thru the scenario, citing WTS policy along with the description of events - his head nodding like the bobble-head clown that he is.

It always gets to the elder telling me, as though I am to suddenly understand the sanity of it, that 'we must not go beyond the things written.'

They never have a reply when I summarize that they would 1. hear the plea of q 12-yr-old girl 2. ask her dear old ham handed daddy, When good ole 'wait till mom's asleep' daddy denies it, 3. tell the girl that she should go home and stop dressing so provocatively, oh, and pray more.

Oh yeah, and if they are feeling that the daughter's complaint has the 'ring of truth' (sound familiar folks?) they may go that extra mile and talk to mommy. No they won't tell her what the issues are. But they may sternly suggest that she be more conscientious about seeing that her husband gets his due.

Brandy, these elders were just gonna wait for something to happen and handle it then. Damn that pisses me off.

Bible History

unfortuneately, i tried to copy the information and for some reason it would not print.

The JW's New World Translation (NWT) was translated by a committee led by none other than their doctrinal leader, Fred Franz. He is the JWs most pervasive thread thru the 20th century, culminating in his presidency during the 90's. You will be able to find out all you would like about him on this site, once the Search function is available.
Fred Franz claimed to be a scholar in both Greek and Hebrew. He was neither, either by skill or education. He did go to college, and he did take some Greek - a year or two.

It wouldn't surprise me that JWs you may speak to have no such knowledge. Only old-timers would know. The WTS claims that the authors are not attributed in their WTS publications because they do not want to encourage any false idolatry. A cynic (me?) would claim that they hide from scholarly scrutiny.

Yeah, its a lot to say. But if that is what you wanted to say - then you damn well better say it. If trying to say it in person doesn't seem to work, this is the next best mode. Good luck with it.

LB: I also read it with the eyes of a parent, though my daughter is just 17. It feels our relationship (always strong) is morphing slowly towards the adut-to-adult mode. It would be awfully painful to get that letter from her.

Bible Study?

what does a "bible study" from the jws teach?

i've been offered one, is it a good idea to accept?

they tell me that they will just show me what they believe and why the believe that, that's it.

I agree with Blacksheep. If you are trying to make a point, they will scare away quite easily - but before they go away for good, they are likely to introduce a more senior member. He/she may may ask first, maybe not. But you will be expected to be intimidated by the awesome biblical experience now before you.

funeral notice for sacramento woman

here something that all should know and the fake standards set by the jw's... a father and mother shunned daughter for her drug addiction to herion and family ignored her but now that she just died on feb 17, 2003 they want to have the family, who are all members of the jw's, to give talks and give praise about her... here this person ,the daughter, hated the witness but yet they will still have elders gives talks and invite people of the kingdom to come now to see her.. i find this insulting to the daughter who was shunned and spoken hatefully against by the same people who now want praise her..no one agreed with her life style for being an alcoholic and drug user but only the jw's would get away with something like this for shunning and refusing to encourage her to live but now be remorseful and speak of their org to bring back the dead..if she did awaken and me knowing her like i did she would spit in there faces......see the sacbee.com site for audra s. published 2-20-2003..

I can only figure that this family is in the org for life. Can you imagine the pain of an awakening? Can you imagine the guilt the family would feel if they suddenly realized what they had done? The death of a child, and the knowledge that they had done little/nothing to help - perhaps even exacerbated the problem, would be more than I care to face in this lifetime.

This may be an exception: they may be better off staying in that den of closed-mindedness.

My father is dead

today i found out that my dad committed suicide, probably on sunday sometime.

his body was found today and the plano police department called me.

i am numb and grieving, kind of relieved for a lot of reasons, and very very sad.

Irritating JW relatives

its been a very busy time around my house.

this last christmas i went in for emergancy surgary.

Sounds pretty serious. Nice of you to take your sister in. My guess is that she is helping a bit too. As I was reading it, I was a bit dubious that your parents don't know she is with you. But good luck, either way.

One idea though: If you are getting off-hour calls, and you are getting calls from people you would rather not, I think you caller ID box likely has call blocking too. If not, it isn't very expensive. You can unblock later, when you feel more up to it.
