  Upcoming Surgery and Blood

  i am a newly unbaptised publisher.

  recently i found out i need to have major surgery and the jw's tried to rush a blood card in my hand.

  i was so relieved when the elders said i could not have one until i was baptised.. but they rushed to get me copies of the blood videos.

  Please accept some friendly advice. Unfortunately, I have some experience with this.

  Make sure to tell your surgeon, your anesthetist, and anyone else that makes decisions on your surgery team that you are NOT one of Jehovah's Witnesses and that you DO accept blood components. Tell them that your husband is one of Jehovah's Witnesses and that he could possibly be pressured by his JW associates to speak against the use of blood products while you are unconscious and try to override your wishes. Tell them that while you are unconscious, no one can override your wish to have blood products if deemed medical useful.

  How do you get a word in edge-wise, when talking to a JW?

  just looking for some pointers, as i was never a jw.

  i have an elderette coming over on friday, for another performance.. last week, i was under the impression that she was coming to answer some questions i had.

  it quickly became clear that she came with a plan for the "conversation," and we went on an expedition from one passage of the bible to the next, while she made leaping claims, argued with herself and kept me confused and always with more than one question lingering in my mind, while she continued talking and talking.. when i have a conversation with someone, i tend to stop talking when they are speaking.

  The other nice people have already said it some form, but I will add to it.

  1. Sister K is coming to preach TO you, emphasis on TO you.

  2. She is not coming to have a conversation. She is the self-appointed teller; she has appointed you as the listener.

  3. She is not interested in anything you have to say. She has already demonstrated that.

  There are many stumper questions. You have already asked one that she deflected. Another question to pin her on is:

  How and when did the Faithful and Discreet Slave first realize that Jesus had picked them? Press her on it.

  Where to go from here(new to TTHATT)

  as some of you know now im fairly new to ttatt so im still coming to grips with the fact that in my 24 years of life up to this point i have been in an organization that isnt the true religon that i believed.

  im a very positve and optimistic person and have never been depressed while a youth in the "truth", but its still somewhat of a tough pill to swallow considering i gave up my dream of playing college basketball to get baptized when i was 18. and also the fact that armegeddon really isnt coming and i wont get to spend forever with my wonderful parents(who also know tthatt) and others close to me.. i also consider myself to have good social skills(that i developed during my rebelious years) although im somewhat of an introvert and always had "worldly" friends even when i was an ms but i im finding it tough to shake off the "all worldly people are bad" mentality that ive had for so long.

  i guess my question is how long did it take you guys to get over everything and move on?

  It took 1 year for my insides to stop spinning around, and about another 6 months to get some inner traction for the rest of my life.

  Please remember, you don't have to go anywhere or believe anything. You can now be your own person, and there is no time limit on figuring out who that is.

  Is this new donation arrangement for real?

  just read a post on jwsurvey about the new donation arrangement.

  congregations are to pledge a monthly amount to be sent to the society to fund the building of assembly halls and kingdom halls.

  congregations who already have a loan from the society will no longer have to pay back the loan but the amount pledged should not be less than the current monthly repayments to the society.

  This is all GOOD NEWS. If money was not an issue for the Society, then this would not be happening. This reveals that there is a great need for ongoing funds that is not being met by current methods.

  When JWs are demoralized and discouraged, most just hang on and quietly go on. But where does discouragment really show? $$ You simply cannot be an enthusiastic giver when you are not enthused. Hitting up the congregations for more $$ will not last. This is not going to fly.

  I survived a 3-hour manipulation session with 2 elderettes!

  i'm not sure how else to describe this meeting at my kitchen table.

  my elderette ("miss k") arrived with her friend in tow.

  i vaguely remember the 2nd lady ("miss w") from the times we went to the kh, but like miss k, we never really talked in depth.

  I loved reading this. Nicely done. I couldn't have been nice for 3 hours.

  May I suggest two approaches:

  1. Tell Miss K that you want her to ask questions of you. That you don't have any questions for her because this would imply that you think she has the right answers.

  2. A question about Noah's preaching, if you want to ask her. Just how far and wide did Noah preach to people about the ark? There was no transportation in those days. Did Noah travel and preach and build a huge ark without power tools too? Did he preach within a 20 mile radius of the ark? A 50 mile radius? What about people only 200 miles away? Or people in southern Afirca or Asia? They never heard thing about a coming flood.

  i seem to recall that there was an assistance fund set up for insurance on kingdom halls that were essentially set up as insurance.. where you were not to insure the khs by normal insurance companies.does anyone know about this and does any kh claim againt the fund i.e.

  the watchtower?.

  sounds like a scam!.

  We had an older visiting sister to fall inside our Hall and hurt her hip and back. Her hsuband was the visiting speaker that Sunday. She wasn't used to the floor plan. This sent her to a chiropractor or physical therapist for extended treamtments. Her husband, the brother, called later and asked about filing on our KHall insurance. We contacted the Society.

  The Society told us to speak to them kindly and with understanding, but also to ask them to file on their personal health insurance if they had any. I was the Accounts Servant at the time, so the Secretary got the dubious task of calling them back. A week or so later I asked him how it went. He said they were not happy about it, but had health insurance, and so filed on their own.

  I hear talk of "the WT is under financial strain." I don't know about all that. For steady income they have:

  1. Kingdom Hall Insurance program.

  2. Kingdom Hall Building Fund. (Donations from congregations lent back out on interest for KHall builds. WT = the bank.)

  3. Weekly Circuit Assembly donations.

  4. District Convention donations.

  5. Contribution boxes for the Worldwide Work.

  6. Traveling brothers insurance assistance program. (An amount assessed to each congregation per publisher each year.)

  7. Traveling brothers automoblie assistance program. (An amount assessed to each congregation per publisher each year.)

  8. Real estate sales.

  9. Financial markets investments.

  Understanding the differences between doing a good job and doing a perfect job

  for anything to be perfect, there has to be a standard in place regarding its function.. i love to use the analogy of a dinner fork.. if your standard for eating is the conveying of food from plate to mouth, a fork is a. perfect.

  utensil for eating peas, fries, etc.. .

  however--it is not worth much for eating soup!

  Yes. The WT Society acts as the insurance company for Kingdom Halls around the country. Each congregation is assessed an insurance premium to cover the KHall. The elders receive a periodic letter (yearly? I forgot) from the WT reminding them to pay the premium and outlining instructions to give to the Account Servant for submitting payment.

  The WT prefers a lump sum, but will accept monthly installments just like any insurance company. The yearly? letter also reminds the elders to tell baptized publishers to use their worldly insurance instead of filing a claim on the KHall, since any payouts come from funds that would otherwise be used in furthering the worldwide work.

  This is yet another quiet revenue stream out of the congregation funds and onto the WT Society.
