Agreed snare&racket. May I add Oogie, you don't have to "do" anything right away. I understand wanting to. I wanted to run screaming up and down the aisles of the Kingdom Hall. I didn't. My JW friends whispered among themselves about what might be wrong with Bro. Bob, but hardly anyone said a word. The elders and the CO did of course. And just like with snare&racket, their concern was whether I was going to talk and contaminate the congregation.

Wow, oh wow. I sort of love it. Just glad it's not me. I get knots in my stomach. But the presumptive audacity to come into someone's home and begin calling the shots like "Brother Jones will pray for us." Oh yeah?
I was going to suggest that you could make the minimim payments on your dad's credit card bill if would cut up the cards. He did say that his yes means yes, not his yes means yes you will cover him. But then, he might as well pay the credit card as pay you back $100 a month. By the way, the credit card company will be happy to accept an arrangement of $100 a month from a senior.

I am so happy for you. It takes a while for the feeling of guilt to go away, but it will. What replaces the guilt, at least for me, is a feeling of disgust and agitation for being fooled and hoodwinked for so long.
Maybe it is better to talk with your husband early on rather than when you become really upset with anything WT? And yes, the literature turns my stomach.
Maybe some honest nonaccusation talk with husband about how you got to where you are now.

Something odd just happened when I logged on!
by tornapart ini typed in my name, password and the captcha, expecting to see my name come up in the top right corner and what i actually saw was someone else's name!
(the name was another member of this board).
i looked at it for a few seconds feeling a bit puzzled and not sure what to do about it and as i looked it automatically changed (whithout me doing anything) back to my own name.. has anyone else had this happen to them?

If a Witness in 1974, how did "Earthquake" in "Sensaround" affect you?
by Wasanelder Once infor those who dont know, the movie "earthquake" was a huge film with big stars in 1974. it was mass destruction of watchtower armageddon proportions all presented in "sensaround".
the soundtrack was augmented by a low tone that affected a person's inner ear making it seem the seat was moving beneath them.
it was awesome.

I did not go to worldly movies back then. And we were far too busy in the life-saving preaching work during the final months of this old wicked system of things.

4 sincere questions for those that believe there is a God
by S EIGHT ingreetings.. allow me to set the questions up.. after 30 years in the truth (i'm now late 40's) and having established the truth about the truth i consider myself agnostic going on atheist.. i struggle to believe there is a god when i observe life yet i try to convince myself there must be something out there.. here's the basis of my question: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-23583116 .
in summary, 2 young boys have been killed by a snake that escaped from a pet store in canada.
it made it's way up through the ventilation into the apartment they were staying in.

Agree and agree.
How about this...you pray that you do well on your talk. While you are giving your fine, but soon to be forgotten talk, 2 kids and their parents are killed in an auto accident in the same town.

no doubt you gave me an accurate description of what to expect.
when i first walked in, i was greeted by the jw who calls on my house.

The most telling part of your observation was noticing the distinction among Jehovah's Witnesses for always "taking in knowledge", an activity, versus knowing and experiencing God, a state of being. That is on point and precisely why you did not experience rejoicing or praising during either meeting. Rejoicing and praising are foreign experiences to JWs.

Corboy...Wow, people are really piling on to this topic. I will be brief.
Doctrine only. Here is what worked for me while I was an active JW. I read the "New Testament" through starting with the book of John and ending with Luke. There is nothing like getting a straight story, right? I was surprised with what I came away with.
I was more than surprised, I was mildly shocked. So I read the whole thing again. Yes, the whole NT again, to be sure. It took about 2 months altogether. I was an elder and a JW for 32 years. Reading the NT by itself broke me of that bad habit. I will never go back.

I don't think they were trying to drum up persecution in Denmark. I think they were just being dumb and arrogant and it did backfire on them.

i have been reading this forum for maybe a month now, and it has helped me answer alot of questions that i have had, and i must say i am extremely glad i found this forum, so full of information!.

Oh wow, Unfamiliar. You are among people here who understand. Most of us have had similar experiences breaking free. I will keep my comments short, just to say that this is all new for your parents and family.
A bad choice of words on my part, but they will need time to be trained on acceptable behaviour with you. It sounds like you are not going to bring up topics to them to disrepect what they believe and are simply asking for the same courtesy. They will have to learn this new family norm. It is new to them. They will get it after a few friendly reminders.
