  1. jehovah's witnesses have a clergy.. 2. that clergy consists of 8 men in brooklyn, n.y.. 3. those 8 men decide what every witness must believe in.. 4. any witnesses who openly disagrees with any of the teachings, faces expulsion & shunning by every fellow witness - relatives included.. welcome to the spiritual paradise!.

  Elders are indeed the local clergy in every respect. They preach sermons, weddings, funerals and decide who is in and who is out. They take instruction from Brooklyn and the GB just like Catholic priests take instruction from Vatican City and Cardinals.

  You have more power over your JW inlaws than you might know. JWs are sort of scared of the non-JW family members. Scared in the sense that they want to bring you into the truth and therefore feel an obligation to show you the best side of truth and let you see just how wonderful it all is.

  The will be tip-toey around you, like the brother inlaw was when he was telling that your wife couldn't come. He was scared to death of how that sounded.

  SO! Use this to your advantage where you see the opportunity.

  They didn't offer you a magazine or tract? The usual cop out is to say that this tract answers those very questions, and hand you a tract and leave.

  I do fear that you unsettled them a bit. Thinking outside the paragraphs is hard work.

  Oh heck yeah! We thought that the world hated us. That they just want to persecute us and throw us into prison. That they were scheming up ways to do away with Jehovah's Witnesses and the only true religion.

  Guess what I found out upon leaving? Ain't nobody even thinking about our sorry behinds! HAHAHAHA. Ain't nobody hating or scheming up anything on us. Man oh man, did I ever fall for that "they hate you" business.

  Ran into a witnessing table at the park today

  i just got in from my daughters homecoming(she is a cheerleader and these guys make a huge deal out of this stuff).

  they play 3 football games of various age groups.

  it starts at 8 in the morning and just ended at 1:30. i just got in the house literally 5 minutes ago and i had to share.

  a list of good movies/tv shows to get a JW to think

  ones that have themes that come uncomfortabllly close to the cult dynamic.. i already got him to watch the obsolete man on twilight zone.

  he sauggested watching some old tz again tonight so i wioll pick where is everybody, and escape clause.. i have heard oters say the movie truman show was a good movie as is the matrix ( though i detest violence).

  any more suggestions for my personal handy dandy list?.

  I second The Truman Show movie. I could not believe the parallels when I watched it. It's a rather silly movie, but the plot is just JWdom Watchtowerdom. It has the elders and sheperding calls and WT headquarters too.

  If all ''faders'' abruptly left the Watchtower and made no effort to hide the reasons why, what affect, if any, do you think it would make on the congregations?

  when you're part of a lovely big group of people who all seem to be happy in their beliefs, it's easier to quell your own doubts.

  if i was the only person left in the congregation who still went on the door to door work, because every body else had stopped going , having said out loud what most think, ''it's a waste of time'', how long do you think before i too would cease going door to door?.

  i know from my own perspective that having lots of fellow witnesses around me, steered me into making life changing decisions.

  I hope that a coordinated stopping is possible. It would send scare and shock waves through the org. I believe that the steady trickle out is having an effect already, but a big work stoppage would bring the inner workings to a halt.

  The GENERATION explanation is now a BOLD FACE LIE

  when i first heard about the new "generation" explanation i was confused because i didn't see clearly how they were explaining it.. now it looks like they finally figured it out for themselves and it is no longer confusing.. it is now a simple, ignorant, bold face lie.. this is from the january 1st watchtower.

  (and i hope to hell someone from writing gets wind of this).

  paragraph 15 page 31 blue stands for the exact words in the watchtower.

  looks like they're trying to transition from john 17:3 old new world translation to new new world revised gray sword bibles john 17:3 from:.

  "their taking in knowledge of you" to "knowing you".. looks like it will be a new feature column, here it is in january 1st 2014 wt:.

  This semantic change is not going to work for them. All my JW days we took householders straight to John 17:3 to impress upon them the need to "take in accurate knowledge of God" and I have a study publication specially for the purpose of taking in knowledge.

  I was one of many ticked off when I found out the meaning of John 17:3 is knowing God, not constantly studying.
