  Interesting thread.

  We have often discussed wheatear JW.s are sicker than others. In my experience this is a fact. In private small investigations there is a ratio to out of 100 “normal” persons maybe 15% have some sort of dysfunction. In the JW.s congs I have been into more than 50% were “out of order”. Why is that so?

  Is it so perhaps, that people with problems are attracted to the teachings of the GB. All about the new Kingdom when everyone will be healthy, no thief’s, no murderer, no deaths a.s.f. and therefore they just want to believe all the crap from the society.

  Or, is it maybe so that people with less brain capacity (low IQ), are unable to understand the problems and the arguments that emerges when you accept WT teachings. And then they are sort of brainwashed, and are unable to find their way out from the brain trap that WT have set up for them.

  Or is it just the “social factor” that the congs. Provide for the “lonely people”

  I would like your theories about wich factor is most important.

  On request from ”friends thread” I would like to tell you my story. The subject from friends thread was simply : are JW,s more negative or more disordered than “normal” people?

  I was 10 15 years ago an elder. In our cong. I had to take care of theocratic school, and at least one point in the service meeting. I sat in comities, had at least one public speech per month in other congs. Often I was invited to give a talk in Circuit assemblies. As an elder I was expected to go preaching at least 10 hours per month. Beside from that I had a stressing full time job and I also had a family with 6 children. The pressure on me was enormous. Sometimes I didn’t even had the time to take care of my personal hygiene.

  All this resulted in a severe constant high blood pressure during 10-15 years. So about 10-15 years ago I was stroked with 5 hearth attacks, in a row of 2-3 years. 3 of them was severe and caused emergency transport with ambulance.

  My cardiologist (heart specialist) , told me that I do not only need heart surgery, but also Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). So I was ordered to contact a psychologist. I spent more than 40 hours with this therapist. She told me how to say NO THANK YOU , to everything that I did not really want to do.

  Hence I went to the elders in my cong and gave in my personal elder books, said to them that I never ever will attend any meeting again, that I never will going in the field service and or report any hours.

  I have now been out for more than 13 years, but my wife is still in. During this period I have never ever again had any heart attack. I can see the same tendencies with my wife and are deeply worried that she will suffer the way I did.

  Does anyone have these experiences? I have heard rumors that some DC have had hart problems. But are these problems often neglected in favor of others that we often discuss here such as mental disorder, ADHD, Fibromyalgia, depression a.s.f.

  Would like to have your opinion and exper.

  When I was in and an elder 10-15 years ago, the preassure on me as an elder coused severe high blodpressure symphtoms. All speaches you was expected to hold, all commities, talk at circuit meeting, eldershools, this together with a full time job and being the father of 6 children, was simply to much.

  The result was 5 hearth attacks, 3 emergency ambulance transport to a specialist in cardiology. The cardiologist understood my situation, and said you need not only hart surgery, but cognitive behavoiur therapy CBT. I went to the phsycologist for more than 40 hours. Coming out from this therapy I had learned that I must say NO THANK to every engagement that did not interested me. So instead just fading away from the cong. I resigned and openly said that I will never ever come to a meeting again nor will I report any field service. The other elders in the Circuit didnot dfsh mee. I think the scandal had been to big. Maybee they hope that I some day will be back again.

  Since my wife is still in, I hear sometimes rumors from the cong. And I have noticed, that almost every one of the congs. Members are in some way “out of order”. I hear dysfunctional diseases, such as ADHD, Paranoia, fibromyalgia, headache’s, depression, a.s.f. Especially, pioneering sisters, often call my wife in the morning saying they cannot go out in the fields today, but maybe next week. My wife seems to be quite happy with it, this makes her free from this field service another day. No wonders why preaching ours has being slow down in northern Europe. My guess is that of 35 members of our congs. Only 10 are effectively active.

  What Do You Read?

  as a jw, i read all the publications and tried to understand all "theocratic" watchtower policy.. i read 3 newspapers a day and rarely read a book or magazine, other than wt.

  stuff.. i read the bible a number of times and still find it a good read.. i love to read the internet news as well as the cherished drudge report.. what's your favorite read??.

  I like to read fact books, with subjects like History (ideeas, ecomical, or religious). Books written by scholars within these subjects and maybe essays from Archeological excavation, give me ammunution when CO:s and elders are coming to talk me into better thoughts. Usually it only takes 3-5 minutes for their visit. Then they raise their asses and run away in a hurry, they say they have sooo many other brothers to visit. (which I know they havent)

  One obvious conclusion is since the number on humans increase with about 82.000 million people per year and the number of publishers only with approx. 260.000 tousands per year, god must be very busy in killing non JW´s at Armaddon even more for every day that passes til Armageddon really comes. I wunder how many Angels he must use to finish the job, when it comes?

  Im inactive since more then 15 years. Disassociated, since 3 years. Wife still in. My whole family, (6 children) all are free and out of control from the org. In fact the only one that suffers from my disassociation is my wife. She cannot ever invite her "friends" to our house.

  This is the only site that is totally democratic,in where all (who wants) could express their feelings or knowledge without fearing beeing shunned och disf. Its a breathing hole for all those who never hear serious questions discussed at the KH. Here they can find support for their doubts, and facts for what they believe. In fact what the WTBS do with their belivers is very much similar to what all previous political ideas did to ther inhabitants. The communist, faschist and religious ideas always tries to silent their critics with hard methods. It is also curruption preventer. Leaders dont like their followers to know what they actually are doing.

  Parallell scriptures does anyone know how many?

  Thank you for all your help. I have been wundering how all these parallells come to be. One exponation from a Bible critical University I have read is that all hebrew scriptures originaly was not written down. Yhey were sagas litterary learned by hart. A number of men/boys were taken out to learn some texts by hart and remember it to be read on the ceremon in the synagoug. Some times goes, and those poeple who actually could write some hebrew, was taken out to write those "Learned by hearth" sagas. Of course they wrote dawn listen to the people who know their storyies by hart - on scrolls not codex. And of course it is far more difficoult to see similarities between texts in a scroll then in a codex. Year by year these by hart learnet masses of texts were written down and nobady noticed that the already hade copies of copies of copies.... When Athanastasious (a greek Bishop) prescribed all these texts as "Canon" He didn´t know either. In fact some Jewish sects and some Islamic congreation still use the consept of learning by hart.

  These are the reasons why the bible cannot be "Gods wholly word". The bible is still one of the most intressting litterature we have more then 2000 years old but it is nothing in it that could face common scientific facts. The same goes with the Choran.

  I have noticed that a number om Biblical books are quite similar to each others. For instance the books of Kings and Samuels and Chronical do contain exact the same phrases in many chapters. In some cases just a few names are different and switched to another. i have understood that these chapters are called the "parallells". Is there anyone who knew which chapters are equal? Is there anyone who made a computer run to se which chapters are only copies of the other. 40 years ago I remember that the Aid book tried to answer tha question with that the writers wieved it from diffrents standpoints. As an academic I must say that if you are to write un accademical essay, this "coping" will automatically disqualifing you from an excim. Please anyone there who could help me? Bugbear
