i would like to share a part of the shame that jehovah's witnesses elders in southa africa have to bear.. in south africa white males during the 70's and 80's were conscripted into the army from age 16.. during the 80's at the age of 16 i was conscripted.
at age 17 i was sentenced as a minor and was told i would have serve to six years prison.

The basis of the Iraq war was pure BS.
That being the case the world is better off without Sadam in power. I wish we could repeat it for many other counties but the sniffling leftists will cry too much if we did that. It amazes me how they are always at the forefront crying for human rights and yet when human rights are improved by the removal of a dictatorial sbastard they cry foul. The end result is good, the propaganda for going is based on lies - now we just have to figure out who told them.

I sure hope this wasnt addressed to me. I too have had family killed in an oppressed country. My Grandmother died at the hands of Adolph Hitler during WWII. My adopted sister's mother was raped and killed by Mexican Police. My original point was that I felt such grief for the Spanish people, and I didnt feel Simon's blanket comments about American's were called for. It wasnt my intention to discuss the War in Iraq because it is pointless to do so. I doubt my opinion will be swayed my you, and I doubt your opinion will be swayed by me. I am greatful to live in the United States and be "able to complain no matter what happens."

I realize leftist people like Simon may have the best of intentions but due to my background, my experiences and some family tragedies under the hand of oppresive governments I cannot subscribe to his world view. The USA will make mistakes - they will have corrupt leaders (hell i am no fan of Bush) but I love the USA because in general America cares about the rights of freedom and they will FIGHT for them.

Would you prefer the US to take an all or nothing approach? I wouldn't mind a nothing approach - stop sending my money away (yes to Israel too). On the other hand there are countries with much greater oppression than Mexico who need to have their leaders ousted and/or shot first...
Forgive me if I come across as strong on this subject but I have strong feelings for painful personal reasons. anyone who thinks dictators should be allowed to remain in power has his head shoved far up his arse...or should have it shoved there anyway. I have had family members killed under these types of regimes and I am getting tired of watching the do-gooders who do nothing except want to talk crap about it. I avoided these threads for a long time but I got tired of the leftist views of people who do NOTHING except complain no matter what happens.

I just wish there was a way for every nation to get along
I can agree with that sentiment in principle....BUT if a nation like Afghanistan, Iraq or Zimbabwe is suppressing the common people due to brutal dictatorships then I do not want my country's leaders to get along with the other country's leaders. Oust the jerks and then get along with the innocent people who are always abused.
