While your ideals are noble and commendable, an altruistic solution will never be played out. What you are advocating is people giving up what they have to give to some "fe'rners" who are different than them. I happen to be one of the folk who will never give up what I have accomplished or own without a fight. I am out for me first and me alone.

Simon's words above are not "altruistic", they are pragmatic. What Simon is advocating is not "I have to lose now so someone else can win", it's win/win.

a label is a label...If you actually read what Simon wrote it might help... (Simon spoke about people in the US giving up some of their standard of living in order to achieve equality). Equality on a financial scale is a pipe dream. Communism tried to mandate it - it failed (see my comments above about the Russian billionaires). You have equal opportunity - and nothing else. Now make of it what you can. Any time spent bitching and complaining about your lot is wasted energy and will get YOU nowhere!!! (I will gladly entertain the bitching and complaining though as I have learned never to underestimate the stupidity of the overall public). I sound like a selfish bastard I know - but that's OK by me.

This stupid selfish (mostly stupid, the selfishness is excusable) idea that someone has lose, or "stay down" for someone else to be "up" is at the heart of what stands in the way of all human progress.

Without knowing yourself first and without being capable of looking after yourself first you cannot look after anyone else. Anything else is is mental masturbation. I don't mind if you call me stupid..i am more thick skinned than most you will find. All I insist is that I have the right to dish it back in spades...

I never made a dime on sympathy and never expect to do so either. I don't feel sorry for myself, Six, even though I might have more reason than many to do so. Feeling sorry for yourself will get you depressed and pissed off and make you act irrationally. Self pity is the leading cause of mental death.

As far as the other nations like China and india being a global power I have no issue with free trade and using free trade to equalize situations of inequality. Where I do have an issue is with the intelligence of the people who empowered or gave away knowledge that enabled the competitive advantages the USA had to begin with. But if it all changes then so be it...its up to every one of us to hedge our personal circumstances against whatever changes occur. I for one would love to see more growth in China right now as I have factored them into my own plans for my own means.

One of the key differences between a China and say the middle east is that China is on its way to being totally capitalist in a secular government. Although the Chinese government is communist they are communist in name only right now. The capitalist progress in China and in Russia will never be reversed. In the latest billionaire count Russia is second to the USA for the largest number of billionaires. This is all the more interesting when you consider how this might have been accomplished in a communist society or in a society that has only recently dropped communism as it was oppresively practiced.

There are quite a few benefits to incorporating. If they establish a not for profit and set it up as a Limited Liability Corporation they are shielded for instance from lawsuits on a personal level.

If i was Brooklyn I would get my hotshot attorney's to draft a seriously bullet proof operating agreement and then have each congregation adopt it as they incorporate. It would cost less than a $1000 per congregation and provide big time protection against abuse suits and the like. I faced some lawsuits in the past and changed the whole incorporation mechanism I had for business and my investments because of these types of benefits. Since an individual congregation earns no money (or close to it) the tax ramifications are zero.

But then what does an ass know?

dear jehovahs witnesses and ex-jw's .. many of you may not be aware of what life is like in a military state.

i would like to share a part of the shame that jehovah's witnesses elders in southa africa have to bear.. in south africa white males during the 70's and 80's were conscripted into the army from age 16.. during the 80's at the age of 16 i was conscripted.

at age 17 i was sentenced as a minor and was told i would have serve to six years prison.

I still suffer too. I have ongoing health issues with my lungs, psychological disorders related to food (or rather the lack thereof) and 20 years later I still have some pretty awful nightmares. In many respects I learned what it is like to be an animal...
