How Do You Handle Death?

for most witnesses, the ressurection hope keeps survivors going.

i knew of some jw's that were in such denial that they would want to believe that "they're just sleeping but are still alive to jehovah.

" others would bust themselves "in the work", while others would "mourn as the nations do".

as i was musing in my shop yesterday gluing poly pipe together, (hmm wonder if the fumes got to me) i was thinking of those that still hold to a) the literalness of the biblical creation story and b) thinking that this obviates the theory of evolution.

it crossed my mind that the human inmune system, by its very existence forces one to reconsider one or both positions.

any thoughts?

Fear

kate and i just had one of our frequent "patio" discussions...my, how she sparks my mind!

we've been watching some tapes that a friend gave us, about the origin of the bible and the similarities to (read "borrowed from") other ancient mythologies.

And it can drive us to do things that, objectively, are totally irrational...or, prevent us from doing things that are completely rational.

The very reason people seek a god-creature is because of FEAR. We fear our own mortality and want to believe there is something more than this...it's true for us because we WANT it to be true - we fear knowing that we might not see our dead loved ones again...it can be very destroying to our joy and meaning in life.

If we are honest with ourselves we have to admit this is true. If we strongly believe in something that is far from being proven - wouldn't you agree that IS irrational? That which has no reational explanation is irrational. How far do you want to separate rationality from evidence?

Dad flew home this morning

my dad has been over from canada for the past month and staying at our house.

it's been so good seeing him even though he's not in the best of health (he's not supposed to fly .

the kids have loved him being here and i was really choked after we said goodbye lastnight and our youngest, dylan, started crying saying he didn't want grandad to go home and insisting on sitting on my shoulders waving till the car was well out of sight.. they are both asking when they can go visit again.. i hate goodbyes and being separated from family by such a long distance.

Still waiting ... since 1975 !

what have i done with my life since 1975?

became a jw in the late 1960s ... looked forward to 1975 as early as 1968 ... so, out of a sense of duty and spirit inspired organizational hounding ... when 1974 arrived, i sold the house, sold the car, sold the wife and kids ... then moved to where the great are needed ... 1975 came and went ... .

so did ... 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992 walk away from the organization ... 1993, 1994 then it was 80 years of a special mighty generation since 1914 ... finally, 20 years later it was 1995 when i was forcibly disassociated by wts legal department ... 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000 ... yikes!

New Illinois Sex Law - Its a Killer

the governor of illinois just signed into law new legislation that says that anytime during sexual intercourse, if a woman (or man) says stop, then the other person must immediately stop ... or ... they can be charged with rape ... okay ... .

so, i can see it now ... a partner is reaching orgasm and the other person says ... stop ... yeah ... okay, that's the law in illinois ... .

oh, i understand the foundation of the law ... and i suppose it has its good purpose ... but ... .

ok the background to this story , i wrote to the german bethel, with a screen capture of their web site, where they still promote the pre 1995 definition of the "generation".

i wrote on the premise that i fell away due to this change in 1995 and what is their stance now as i would like to start studying again lmao ( i did tell a few personal white lies, theocratic warfare right?, in order that they felt they could write back to me ).....................never thought they would write back, it took them nearly four weeks to reply, interestingly enough, there is an email address on the letter, my letter is first, so you can get the gist, then their "exact" reply, (with the help of "germanjw" for translation purposes,many thanksgjw ).
