I've been stumbled.
by silent ini just realized that all these dates that the borg have said the end would come on or by and then it didn't happen, have stumbled me.
why such a fascination and trying to divine the answer from scripture when scripture plainly says only the father knows the day and the hour?
by their predictions, they actually sent many christians on the path of date-based worship insted of faith-based worship.. if they have stumbled me, then who is reponsible for that?.

I like your reasoning, but I find "Fuck off!" a more concise, and therefore more effective, response.
If you prefer something perhaps a tad more genteel, you might try, "Could you PUH-LEEZE just mind your own business?"

undercover: I think this meme is more powerful to people in their 50s and 60s than young ones.

Mental Disorders among JW's
by Blackfalcon98 inhi everyone, im begining to notice patterns of mental issues in the congregations and among the witnesses as a group.
do you think this is a trend in the entire world or is it exagerated in this organization?.

Talesin, thanks for the kind words about teaching. I appreciate it.
I don't know if this will be surprising to you our not, but one of the things that really helps me stay enthusiastic about my teaching is by continuing to learn myself. I am currently working on a Masters in Education. The coursework considers a number of different subjects that are almost always immediately applicable to my teaching and my students.
The last course dealt with At-Risk students. Needeless to say, I have a few. Even thought I've been a teacher for a couple of decades, I find that there is so much I can still learn which helps me be more effective with my kids.
I even have a few JW students. It is very interesting to work with them considering where I am in my own personal journey. Of course, none of them know my opinions about the WTBTS. I just focus on teaching them how to think clearly and for themselves. Hey, it's what the Common Core State Standards are all about!

talesin: The depression that can be caused by cognitive dissonance (CD) is widespread among the JW community.
Good point. I appreciate the way you explained this.
The battle between what we SEE and what we are/were told to BELIEVE is really powerful, particularly is the individual is observant and tries to be even remotely thoughtful.
Nice explanation of how cognitive dissonance works in the mind of a typical JW.

How to make the most of wife not going to service meeting?
by FadeToBlack inout of the blue, my wife told me that after this week's service meeting on friday (co visit) she is not going to anymore meetings during the week at night.
only sunday (am) meetings.
she explained that it is difficult and not safe for her to drive after dark (vision issues: i have the same problem so i couldn't help her if i wanted to).

FTB: Buy some wine and rent her favorite movies to make Friday 'our night'?
I like this plan!

Enzo, are you going to answer my direct question? What "manipulated information" do you believe I presented?
What is your justification for believing any of the data I posted has been manipulated? Please provide proof for this assertion.

new assembly experience... what do you reckon to this one?
by purrpurr inok so aparently there was this young girl who wanted to study with the jw's because she loved the bible so much.
she asked her fathers permission but he refused, after much nagging though he said she could have a study if she was prepared to have one of her fingers chopped off.
he thought the is would stop her but she was willing so he got a knife and cut off one of her fingers... a little while later she wanted to attend the meetings and he said no and again when nagged said she could attend meetings if she had another finger chopped off so she agreed and he chopped off a second finger.

blondie: I have heard of the meetings compared to the five fingers on our hand...which one can you do without.
In situations like this with the WTBTS, here's the one we all really need:
