SF: My instinct was to keep my distance for now.
Learn to trust your instincts.
i have a bit of a dilemma that i would welcome advice on from the forum.. a brother in my congregation is giving evidence of having woken up - his comments and talks are usually slanted towards topics discussed here.
he is a former elder and is part of a group of other former elders and ministerial servants who i regularly overhear using terms i would expect to hear from ones knowing ttat.
he is a quite an effective teacher and will probably influence some.. however, in the past he has caused lots of problems for myself and others who i like (including another poster to this site who i have identified) and continues to be someone who i dislike intensely on a personal level.. his comments have been noticed by the body of elders and he is being watched.

the noble fir.
the fir tree stands silently in the corner of our living room: proud, erect, strong.
even unadorned, it is beautiful.
Thank you GrreatTeacher, that is beautifully said, especially in light of all that you're going through right now.
How are your mom and dad doing?
now what is your stance?
TGND: Both are equally wrong legally despite anyone's spin on morals or ethics.
I, of course, completely disagree.
Have you never heard of civil disobedience?
As I posted on another thread in reference to the question about downloading copies of Shepherd the Flock of God or other WTBTS publications which are not intended for general public distribution:
Doing so is a copyright violation.
When I do that, I KNOW I am breaking a law. I am doing it deliberately and with full and complete comprehension of the possible consequences. For me it is an act of civil disobedience, albeit a relatively small one.
Considering all of the things that my involvement with this religion has done to bring irreparable damage to my life, my family relationships and those of countless other, I have absolutely no compunction at all in breaking this law in respect to them, but only to them.
Normally I like your posts, TGND, and generally agree with them, but you really missed the boat on this one.
Let's review: It's a cult!
TGND: Obliette, this post doesn't muddy the issue.
BTW, ironically enough, you left the "u" out of my name. It's Oubliette. Spelling counts.

Woohoo, I love it, Truthseeker!
Freedom is wonderful, yes it is. That's what I'm REALLY celebrating this time of year!!!
i am sorry i haven't replied and if it seems rude.
but people keep asking me what happened and i am not sure what to say.
thanks for writing anyway.
SBF "put it out there that [he was] going back to the JWs because [he] believed it was the truth."
Speculation by Oubliette: Damage control. Theocratic warfare in reverse.
I didn't believe it then and I don't believe it now. NFW.

SBF: Plus sometimes I think my story sounds fantastic and who would believe it anyway.
We would. Everyone here has demonstrated that propensity to believe the unbelievable!
Seriously, now your just teasing us. Completely unfair.
now what is your stance?
TGND: I thought a hypothetical would be good for an exercise in intellectual honesty.
No. You're just muddying the already made-murky ethical waters concerning this issue.
You might as well ask this hypothetical:
Q1: Would you steal a car from a sweet, innocent little old lady? A1: Never.
Q2: What if some thieves stole if from her, would you steal it back? Q2: If I thought I could get away with it, absolutely!
from the guys and girls at "it's ok to be smart".. stay curious!.
....
Not only is it OK to be smart, it's an imperative!
Thanks for sharing.

That is a dilemma. What you want someone else to do it if was you?
Was he a jerk in the past because of being an uber-elder? That tends to happen when people really put on the "cult-like personality."
On the other hand, if he's caused "lots of problems" for you and your friends, you might just let it go and watch what happens. Karma's a bitch.
Maybe he wants to be outed by the elders.

Thank you Xanthippe.
You were the first to post a comment a year ago when I wrote this essay and the first to comment again this year when I bumped it. How appropriate!
