A New Video - Helping kids get ready for service
by sosoconfused inhttp://www.jw.org/en/bible-teachings/family/children/become-jehovahs-friend/videos/lets-go-in-service/.
it all seems so playful and cutsie wootsie to an insider i suppose, i am seeing posts all over facebook about how this is just what my kid needs.. this is truly proper food at the proper time blah blah blah blomit blomit vomit vomit... the funniest part is however is that it cuts out at the end by saying "let's practice what you are going to say".. .
why not make the video longer and discuss how you can get an idea for a 6 year old on how to talk to a grown person about how they are going to die unless you study the bible with me..

Husband has joined me in being inactive.
by Julia Orwell inthat's right, and it's great!
i don't know exactly why because he hasn't turned apostate and still seems to believe jw things.
i don't feel comfortable in asking him why he doesn't go to meetings anymore for some reason, or find out what he believes and if the things i've told him bout ttatt influenced his decision.

I'm happy for you both.

Lookie, lookie, lookie!!!
We ALL can use the UN library on-line. No NGO status required:
Notice this:
Q: Do I have to visit the Library to access UN documents?
A: You do not need to visit the Dag Hammarskjöld Library in most cases.
Many UN documents are available from the Official Document System (ODS) (full text searchable database of UN documents) or from the United Nations Bibliographic Information System (UNBISnet) including:
- Official documents since 1993;
- All Security Council plenary documents since 1946;
- Resolutions since 1946;
- Documents prior 1993 are being scanned and added to the ODS and UNBISnet on a daily basis.
Official records that have not yet been digitized are made available to external researchers through United Nations Depository Libraries or Information Centers (UNICs). If the requested document is not available in a depository library, the Dag Hammarskjöld Library provides scan-on-demand service.

So the WTBTS only needed a library card. Yeah, right! That is such a lame excuse. They would never accept such a lame excuse from anyone else.
And I only read Playboy for the articles!
Seriously. Is that the best they can do?
What an obvious double standard. It just makes me want to puke!
Hypocrites. Bastards!

Heartwarming JW Facebook Comment
by exwhyzee inthis urban legend/anecdote was on the facebook page of a jw who is a facebook friend of mine.
it's kind of long but tell us what you think....it was all i could do to stop myself from making a snarky comment.
a young couple very much wanted to have a family, but his wife could not conceive, so they decided to adopt a baby.

Um, if Jehovah could answer the prayer of a little boy, why didn't he just keep the kid's parents from being killed in the first place?
Also, I'm thinking a 6 or 7 year old child born and raised in Vietnam wouldn't be able to speak English.
I'm calling bullshit on the whole "experience!"

MIL letter to my wife
by AggieNostic inbackground: my wife and i are inactive, we stopped attending in 2005. raised as jws, were pioneers, i was elder etc... .
our kids are in college, also inactive but are baptised.
my wife went back to college, getting her degree this month at age 48!

Mixed signals to say the least. One day MIL is sending letter that uses fear, guilt, blackmail and then the next replies to text above.
This is a typical technique of abusive, controlling people. Again, your MIL learned this type of behavior from the WT.

return of parakeet: After reading the letter, I put it into an envelope and mailed it back to her with no comment whatsoever. She then told me she showed the letter to one of her dub friends at the hall and asked her if she thought it was "hurtful." This friend read it and told her quietly,"That's pretty mean, Sister ---."
Well played!

The WTBTS recently made this cutesy little anti-bullying video:
WT: How to stop a bully ... unless it's the WTBTS
I suggest you get MIL to watch it!
Note these points:
"It [bullying] could also be verbal, teasing and name calling, or even social, excluding people, starting rumors ..."
So then we're in agreement. Labeling people that leave the WT organization as "disloyal," "mentally-diseased" and calling them "apostates" and shunning them is a form of bullying.
At least they admit they're bullies. Oh, wait a minute, they don't. It's only bullying when other people do it!
I liked the advice about avoiding places you might be bullied (2:41"). That is such a great idea. I guess we should all stay away from the Kingdom Halls!
"Shine a spotlight on their actions" (3:10") by posting TTATT here on JWN.

AggieNostic: they don't even see how brainwashed they are.
Brainwashed people by definition don't know they're being controlled and manipulated.
That being said, all I can comment on that letter is this: Wow, what a manipulative letter!
She has certainly learned her controlling tactics well.
Likely any response will fall on deaf ears.
However, you might possibly point out that SHE is the once choosing to shun you, not the other way around. SHE is the once forcing the issue. Ask here where she gets off issuing ultimatums!
Ask her to show you a scripture where Jesus ever shunned anyone, even one person.
Her threat to not-invite you to their 50th Anniversary is just emotional blackmail. You might want to consider calling her on it.
Also--assuming you still believe in God--you can truthfully say, "We have NOT left Jehovah." When she points out that you don't attend meetings, ask her, "Is the WTBTS God?" After she says, "No," then you can point out that equating meeting attendance with belief in Jehovah is illogical and erroneous. Tell her you still believe in God. The cognitive dissonance will likely be overwhelming to her.
Change the subject. Talk about something superficial and pleasant. Ask her where the anniversary party will be ...
This religion is so messed up.
Hang in there!

Thoughts on the new AAWA video and other things!!
by iamwhoiam inso does this mean aawa is going to stop shunning?
are they themselves not guilty of shunning those who shun?
shunning can never be stopped no matter how bad you want it to.

iamwhoiam: Shunning can never be stopped no matter how bad you want it to.
True, but the issue here is the institutionalized form of shunning which is coerced on JWs by the WT Leadership. It removes individual conscience and choice by falsely claiming it is a scriptural requirement when it is not and by falsely claiming it is a matter of loyalty to Jehovah when in fact it is only a matter of loyalty to an organization.
