the elders haven't shown an interest in my absence until now.
today, i have received phone calls from two elders as well as a friend.

I understand it would make you anxious as you've been trained for as long as you've been a JW to obey the elders.
I would continue to just ignore it as much as possible. If you can't avoid them you can politely tell them something like, "Thanks for your concern. I'm dealing with some personal issues right now. I just need some time ..."
Essentially, you're telling them to mind their own business, albeit politely.
Be firm.

but on a more serious note (and i think what must be of concern to the gb) are the amount of leaks that must be occurring at a senior level or at least by a person who has access to sensitive information.

It's an interesting case study in the psychopathology of the authoritarian personality (aka "control freaks").
The GB deliberately induce distrust among the R&F in order to keep everyone easier to control, and yet they are not self-aware enough to see that the same carefully calculated plan to create paranoia among their followers must of necessity eventually infect their own minds.

joe134cd: It wasn't until I started visiting apostate Web sites, that I began to realize just how slowly information travels in the Org. God my family is only just telling me now stuff I knew weeks ago.
Oh yeah, we know stuff here before most elders do!
I imagine all of those leaks must drive the GB members even more crazy than they already are. If there is one thing that Control Freaks hate, it's anything that proves their lack of control.

No. It's called cognitive dissonance, a well known and thoroughly documented psychological phenomenon.
It's one of the reasons that many Witnesses remain Witnesses in spite of the abundant evidence that it is a destructive, high-control, authoritarian cult run by clueless hypocrites and liars.

Also interesting is that they openly admit that they are building commercial buildings.

When you believe "God" sanctioned it (whatever "it" is), you convince yourself it's just and righteous.
Once you are disabused of the notion that "God" has anything to do with it, it's really easy to see how sick, evil and twisted much of the Bible accounts really are.
