Which Spiritual belief system or non belief system is right for you?
by Giordano inwe have done this before but we have a fair number of newbie's on this site and some are struggling with the question about other belief systems and non belief.
where are you now in your own mind?
here's a quiz http://www.selectsmart.com/nontheism/ that is pretty accurate, at least in my case as to where i am at this point in my life.

Cofty: What is a "strong agnostic"? Does it mean "I really really really don't know"?
No. It means he's been giving his uncertainty a workout!
Shadow boxing with doubt.

How could one have a "system" of non-beliefs?
How does someone organize their lack of beliefs?
Isn't that like making a filing system for documents that I don't have?

CEDARS (Again) Is it really about religious beliefs?
by Listener injohn cedars has posted his latest blog "the trouble with apostates (and why it shouldn't put you off becoming one)".
i acknowledge that he is entitled to his opionin just as we are ours but i am disappointed in some of his comments.. at this stage i'll try to be objective about it.
he is defending his own position after all.. what bothers me most is his comments about athiests and christians which he seems to identify as being in conflict with each other.

Sparrowdown: It's no surprise to me that some ex-dubs are extra sensitive to criticism and all questions can be perceived as a form of attack.
Although it is not surprising at all, it is still not very endearing to most of us.
My biggest complaint is when someone is hypersensitive to criticism while at the same time being hypercritical of others.
Hey, don't dish it out if you can't take it!

A Seal Ring bearing King Hezekiah's found in Jerusalem excavation, with ankh symbol and winged sun
by fulltimestudent infrom a story in the jewish press:.
quote: "the city of david excavations of the jerusalem hebrew university on mount ophel, at the foot of the southern wall of the temple mount compound, have yielded a sensational discovery: a seal (bulla) with the name of king hezekiah (727-698 bce).".
"king hezekiahs bulla was discovered in a garbage heap that was dumped during or shortly after hezekiahs time, from a royal building that was used to store food.

prologos: It was not a ring that was found, but a seal impression, formerly attached to a document
Thanks for the clarification. It makes a difference. -

snugglebunny: Everything is done and said with an end goal in mind - the eventual adoration of those around him.
I believe you meant, "... adoration from those around him."

Simon: Some people don't like to be criticized or challenged and the thing they 'know' to deal with it is to apply a label to those being critical so they can be dismissed
Excellent point!

A bitter war between the evangelical and atheist factions in the ex-JW community is raging – and it has just escalated. - Lloyd Evans aka John Cedars
This is an example of the over-the-top, sensationalist and inflammatory rhetoric typical of Cedar's journalistic style.
A lot of people have expressed that they really appreciate and have benefited from his work, but there are also quite of few of us that are put off by his approach.
As The Rebel wrote above, "My personal option of Cedars website is that it is not for me, however like with newspapers I have plenty of choices available." We don't have to read it if we don't like it.
That being said, what is of interest to me is how some respond to any criticism at all of the methods he employs in his activism. These responses often come with a peculiar viciousness disproportionate to the initial criticisms. They are generally emotional attacks that fail to even acknowledge, let alone address the issues raised. If the past is any indication of what may happen in the future, I wouldn't be the least be surprised to receive some personal attacks for writing even this. We'll see what we shall see. Whatever.
My take is this: Cedars puts him self out there publicly as a highly-visible activist, yet he often complains when he encounters any criticism or opposition.
Here in the U.S. we have an expression: If you can't stand the heat, get the hell out of the kitchen!

Merry Pantsmas Everyone!
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite inokay, i posted this in a thread that got locked and buried.
since then i've been really busy and have overdosed on christmas music in the past week.
so, i'm resurrecting this "holy day" holiday that most people will unknowingly be celebrating tomorrow.
