About 15 years ago when I started attending meetings, I noticed that people arrived about 20 to 40 minutes before the meetings started, just to talk and socialize. Also they used to leave about 30 minutes after the meeting. So when you add that up, the meeting wasn't 2 hours but 3 hours. Then you count the time it takes to get there, and come back, and also pick someone up and drop them home again. So in all, you were gone 3h20 for a meeting of 2 hours. What I'm getting to is this, I notice that people don't arrive any more that early to the meetings. In average, people get there about 5 to10 minutes before a meeting, and leave 5 to 10 minutes after. I guess that if they can't cut the length of meetings, they can certainly cut the before and after time. To me this is a sign that all these meetings are taking their toll. Same thing for the field service. It starts at 9am sharp. Most arrive 2 minutes before, and some even 5 minutes after. It's not like is used to be...

Every brother should grow a beard, and tell the elders to go to hell

Venus, Serena & Oprah
by jazbug infyi...in case no one else has posted this.
the williams sisters are going to be on oprah today....wonder if they'll do any "national witnessing".
judging by the commercials for the show, they must be setting new trends in proper dress for jw's.

I think that if Venus and Serena want to be celebrities, then they are in the wrong religion. They have a great talent in playing tennis, but it does not match the humble, "put God first in your life", organization.

The Watchtower seems to want a perfect race, with all people looking alike, just like Hitler wanted. No beards, no long hair. They want it clean. But some people would look cleaner with a beard, because they have lousy skin.

Changing congregations, what did that solve?
by JH in"a congregation is like a little family, where all are close brothers and sisters".
well thats what they let us imagine, when we began our experience in that religion.
with time we saw that a couple of these brothers of sisters were not really the ones we would like to be friends with for all kinds of personal reasons.

"A congregation is like a little family, where all are close brothers and sisters". Well thats what they let us imagine, when we began our experience in that religion. With time we saw that a couple of these brothers of sisters were not really the ones we would like to be friends with for all kinds of personal reasons. So many changed congregation, thinking that the grass was greener on the other side. The elders never told us that all our personal papers would also be sent over to the other congregation. And papers that we are not aloud to see. Why can't we, ourselves bring over these documents to the other congregation and give them ourselves to these elders. Isn't it our right to know what they think of us. The way they will treat us in the new congregation depends on what is written on these forms. Does this get you angry to know that you can't see these papers?

Was it normal to have so many meetings?
by JH inhow many meetings a week, do you think we should have had in order to be reasonable and not overdone?
maybe 30 or 40 years ago, when woman didnt work, or when life was a little easier, that all these meetings every 2 days was ok, but today with life being so stressful, and with all the time it takes commuting, is it normal to still have so many meetings.
nothing changed in the last 50 years as far as meetings go.

We do think alike. Too bad other active witnesses don't realize this is out of proportion. And they have the nerve to say that they are BALANCED IN ALL THINGS.

Long assemblies
by freedom96 inthere have been a couple of postings lately about long assemblies.. does anyone remember these, or maybe even attended them?.
i was just a young child in the early 70's and something tells me i remember a long assembly, but don't remember if it was 8 days.. how long were they exactly, and what times.
what the hell did they talk about???.
-
JH
Eight days long, all day and evening too. I have a copy of the program from the 1963 "Everlasting Good News
Too bad it had to take an everlasting meeting to talk about an everlasting good news.

The blood card?
by moman inhow many innocent people have died on the borg's altar of insanity with the prohibition of blood?
now they are trying to weesel out of it, no more blood cards, a de-emphasis on the whole issue of blood, the cowerdly bastards!.
this is a powerful litmus test as to their level of brain-washing, the death of hundreds or thousands & little, if any outcry.. well, i guess if you are calling yourself a sheep?.
-
JH
Stupid me, I still have my blood card in my wallet. I left it there and forgot about it. It must be 9 years old. Although no one really wants blood, it can save your life. But still, some people will not accept blood easily because of the risks. Aids is still on the rise, I read on a british site:

It makes one wonder if God is not in back of them(lol). They are tough and can take a punch. But as long as they have people attending, money coming in, lawyers defending them, they will keep on existing. They must see Satan in back of all that bad publicity, so it strengthens them. I'm afraid that it will take alot more to hurt them.

But if their numbers could go up, with less meetings, wouldn't that be great for them!
