this artical seems ok to me no mention of shunning, marking etc.

could it be the wt is feeling the heat and changing its policy in respect to shunning of family and friends?

is the awake just as authoritive as the wt and is this artical grounds for a change?

Why should we need some form of guide or leader anyway, one thing I really find liberating after leaving the WT is that I can think exactly what I like and change my own mind when I feel the need. I refuse to belong to any other religion or follow any other teacher as that would limit my thinking. Am I agnostic I dont know?

Also it occurs to me that the mental health of anyone who claims to have been anointed by god and seeks to build up a following for himself must be held in question. Smacks of a form of meglomania resulting from religious oppression to me.

Finally, whilst many JW's may accuse us of believing every opostate teaching, this thread has demonstrated that we are all able to think quite freely for ourselves.

the war is going on and on, and may be awhile before it actually officially ends.. the original reason for invasion was because of weapons of mass destruction, but that has fizzled,.

so why do you think bush was so keen on invading iraq ???.

oil, money, power, helping the iraqi people, ???.

Well I thought the toppling of Bush's statue a bit of a laugh, we use humour a lot in England to express our views.

Re the comment on War Crimes, there is a movement of lawers who are attempting to do just that. A senior member of the British government has admitted the act was illegal.

There is a web site, I was going to post the UK site, however on performing a search it came up with a whole range from the UK & US so if you search legal action against the war in Yahoo or Google you can track the progress in the country of your choice.

In the UK site there is a letter you can print off and take to your local police station, they have a duty to investigate.

Daughters of the Tower

for anyone whose interested in the history of the watchtower society, there is a fascinating list and summary of bible student associations who broke away from the society and formed their own groups.

many of these still hold to c.t.

When the Curtain fell in Europe, the Society was eager to see what was left of the Romanian Jehovah's Witnesses. They were quite disappointed. Because of the loss of communication from the war, the Bible Students had adopted the name "Jehovah's witnesses", but were still reading and studying Russell's writings and discarding the current literature from the Society.

Fascinating stuff.... I wonder if there is more information as to how the isolated JW groups in Eastern Europe evolved away from Brooklyn?

As a JW in the early 90's we had been taught that literature was smuggled in and imagined that things were pretty much the same as here only underground. We saw pictures of the mass baptism in Kiev and sort of assumed all was well. What we did not hear is how some groups had totally diverged. Did they have mass disfellowshippings?

I agree with comments on Ray, never met him, however the book came over as genuine and explained a lot of odd stuff I had often wondered about.

Who is e-Watchman anyway? My impression is that it is run by an 'apostate' in the true sense of the word, in that I get the impression he is masqurading as a genuine JW, yet I suspect is trying to sow seeds of doubt in an underhand way. There is no way a genuine witness would run such a site.

The difference being in this site is that we are on the whole totally honest about who we each as individuals are, our standing and what we each individually think and often disagree with each other, which in my view is healthy.

the latest watchtower, dec 15th 2003, is an out and out attack on the rank and file for dropping into a drowsy state spiritually.

ok, so armageddon didn't come before the generation of 1914 grew old and died.

but does that mean that the big a isn't near?

I agree, they are not setting a date. They know how the rank and file will respond so they, the WT, do not have to 'set a date'. They can just let the loyal dubs read between the lines while maintaining their freedom to deny they said it.

Was going to comment, that all they need to do is hint at it and the R&F will hype this one, seems this point has been well made here.

Yea, but how many since the War 'officially ended'.

I guess the British death toll has fallen since the Americans have stopped firing on us.

But if you prefer to hate America and American President's then that's your perogative. I hope you will always have the freedom to voice your opinion, oh yeah if some despot attempts to curtail your rights the US will be there to save your ass ---yet again.

Yea, but only after you have sold us shedloads of weapons and got to the point where we owe you so much money that you have to come in to help otherwise if we loose you wont see a cent.

Dont get me wrong, I love Americans, as you share a similar language we know you all like close family and as such we also see all the things we dislike more than any other nation.
